It's worth stopping by...

I have no idea what a tenderloin sandwich is, but it was good. The onion rings are fresh and homemade. The chocolate malt was awesome. The building is a little deceiving - it is out of the 50's but cool in a history kind of way. The highlight of the visit is the staff... Mindy and Wendy were awesome - great service, super nice, friendly, and a lot of fun. The atmosphere in this place is great

Best tenderloin around, and the sides are even better!! Funnel cake fries are a MUST!! Drive about 40 minutes 1 way for Smitty's and every time it's worth it!!

Great tenderloin sandwich. King size if big enough for two people. The employees are great and very friendly. The customers are also nice to talk to.

South side Des Moines staple. I think they have better burgers than George the Chili King ever had. Great tenderloins as well but I usually stick with a burger. Quick service!

Took a day vacation to Blank Park Zoo down the road. Searched for restaurants in the area & Smitty's popped up. My family was not disappointed. Its a hole in the wall for sure. Needs to be updated on the outside which is where we ate. Food was great though, which is why we came. I ordered the chili cheese loin. My wife had a standard loin. Kids had a 15 piece nugget and fries. My only complaint was the amount of cheese curds received for the price. Overall we spent $ 32.00 & I was satisfied we got a bang for our buck. Would recommend.

Served to order, hot and delicious...simple done right. Less than $10 for my meal and so much better than typical quick eatery fare. The two ladies who took my order and served me are efficient, funny, engaging and reason enough to go back.

Today was my 1st time here and the food was delicious. The service was great and fast. I love how small and cozy retro the place was on the inside. The prices are really good too. I saw a great diversity of people enjoying this place. Gay, straight, old, young, families and all types. I tried an oreo shake and it was very good. I'd go back to say hey to the cook and 3rd generation owner Ben. Wendy was our server and great.
A little extra bonus. If you love Pokémon Go, this place is a Poké Stop so stop in and give the food a try and spin the poke stop.

Just tried for the first time. Everything was very good. We will definitely be back!

Required stop for any visitor to the Blank Park Zoo! Enjoy all the animals in Noah’s Ark and then a great tenderloin sandwich. Perfect lunch spot for meeting new friends.

When company comes, Smitty's is a must!! Have been getting their tenderloins since I was a kid. They never disappoint. Don't leave without getting either their french fries or my favorite, onion rings. The staff is very friendly and you are made to feel welcomed. It is just a little spot on Army Post Road but old southsiders know exactly where they are located!!

Been going to Smitty’s for about 40 years ! At least once a week but sometimes lots more ! Good company good food and great prices ! You better go hungry because those tenderloins are huge and everything they cook is great ! Love their Sundays too and shakes ! Run into your friends there !

Feels like a locals only place that serves tremendous local fare. The pork loin sandwich was literally so big. It was going off the plate and it made the bun. It was served on. Look like a silly joke. The sandwich is that big! T-shirts are a little pricey but what are you going to do?

A Des Moines institution. I got a plain "queen size" tenderloin sandwich--which you can see is huge--plus onion rings. All very tasty. Very clean restaurant with wonderful retro vibe and super-friendly, super-attentive staff--some of the best service I've had in a long time. Prices can't be beat.

Smitty's Tenderloins are truly a local treasure. I wish Des Moines had more wonderful restaurants like this one. The Food is amazing and the Staff is super friendly! So Good!

Garrett has such great customer service skills. I had a wonderful tasting bacon cheese burger, fries, and a chocolate shake. We will be back.

We love to find the places that have survived and thrived through the decades. Smitty's is a great example of smaller can definitely be better. It' a cozy little place for a great lunch. Love me some good Iowa Pork Tenderloin!

Was fantastic! Same great experience I had when my parents took me as a kid! I hadn't been there in a very long time and I enjoyed the atmosphere the service was fantastic and the food was hot and fresh you don't get that other places you go! It was my birthday so we had quite a few there and the service was awesome! Way to go! Top notch place with a family atmosphere!
