Sam's Fine Food & Egg Rolls

The location isn’t fancy but the owners are delightful, friendly and kind. They are from Laos, and have been in Iowa for 45 years. They have been in business for 23 years. The food is fresh and delicious, and made to order. My husband and I are visiting from Kansas and we were looking for delicious Chinese food and we found it at Sam’s! The egg rolls were hand made, crispy with a flavorful crunchy cabbage filling. My husband said his Mongolian Beef was perfect (and he’s a picky eater!). My garlic chicken with mushrooms and water chestnuts was tender and tasty. Their fried rice was full of flavor and not just salty soy sauce. All portions were large, so there’s leftovers for lunch tomorrow! There are 2 tables if you want to dine in, and the owner’s wife served us with a smile. They seem to do a brisk take-out service as well. I HIGHLY recommend a visit. I would like to try their Laos special dishes next time.

What a wonderful experience! We searched ‘best Chinese food near me’ and Sam’s was the first place that came up. To start, the service was great. Both employees greeted us and were so friendly. We ordered to go and the food was ready in less than 10 minutes. The eggs rolls did not disappoint and were just as good as all the reviews claim. We also had sesame and generals chicken - both delicious! We will be back!

We were looking for aunthetic Chinese food and after asking a few friends for suggestions, more than a few people suggested Sam's. We arrived at 8:45pm, ordered food and sat down to eat. Little did we know they closed at 9pm. We were greeted with huge smiles, open arms and had the best service I've ever had. We kept adding food to the order, and they kept bringing food and joking with us. I had the best egg rolls, crab ragoons, and pot stickers ive ever had. Serving of 4 pot stickers is enough for 4 people. Mangolian beef was awesome, hot and sour soup was fresh and great. I'm in love, and I can't wait to have Sam cook for us again! I'd leave 6 stars if I could.

Probably the best tasting Chinese in South Des Moines. It is a small place to dine in with like 3 tables and a small menu but all the food I had is really good. We usually order take out. My wife loves their chicken fried rice. I really enjoy their Pud Thai.

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed punch yesterday at this little shop. They say cheery in the description....absolutely. it was one of the best eatery experiences I've had. They had 3 round tables to eat at and 2 smollllll ones, but I promise it's worth it. I felt odd walking in and it being so small. Then I was welcomed and I was gtg.

The food was also incredible. I had sesame chicken and it was so crispy. It was all around an amazing experience at a place I felt awkward walking in to.

Don't let anything about this place turn you away. I promise you won't regret it

Warm welcome! Delicious and seemingly fresh food. Watched it being cooked fresh from the car before going in. Was thankful to try a new place when our other two go-to Chinese food restaurants were closed on a Monday evening. We will be back!

I have lived in the Des Moines area for 5.5 years, and have not been able to find any high quality Chinese food. I have an office downtown, and randomly popped in today for Kung Pao Chicken. This food is amazing. Sam was awesome — super friendly and welcoming. I’ll be back…probably a lot!

A little gem of a chinese restaurant with the best orange chicken I've ever had! The owner of the restaurant (Sam) cooked our meal and his wife was working the register. I love to go places like this! The eggrolls lived up up to the hype as well. I will definitely be back!

I had THE best experience here! I travel a lot and try to go to the mom and pap restaurants and this place was sooooo good! The lady at the front was the sweetest and the cook was so sweet!!!

Sam's Fine Egg Roll is a tiny place. There are a handful of tables inside and one outside. Sam is the cook, and he greeted me with a cheery "hello" as soon as I stepped inside. The woman at the counter (I didn't get her name) was friendly. I placed my order and paid, sat down and she brought out my Pepsi. In more of an iced tea drinker but they only serve cans of pop or water, which was fine. She brought me a cup of ice, too, which I appreciated. The egg roll was the best I've had, and the Mongolian beef was delicious. They were generous with the beef. I was checked on a couple times, and there was a steady stream of customers. Definitely worth the trip.

Some of the best Chinese food I've ever had! Only thing is the seating is a little lacking due to the limitations of being in a strip mall, so most of the time you'll probably have to get take out.

Absolutely amazing very friendly first time after working on the roads of Des Moines. Come in to sam amazing and warm personality and smile. Jokes with you while preparing your food, makes you feel at home. I dislike egg rolls but his are amazing

I always get the Sesame Chicken never disappoints and the Egg Rolls are phenomenal. Only a couple tables for dine-in not really set up for that mostly take out.

New in town and feeling crummy with a cold, I found myself craving soup and something with a little spice. I looked for local options and saw great reviews for Sam's.

The egg drop hit the spot and the kung bao chicken had the little bit of spice I was looking for with plenty leftover for lunch tomorrow. After seeing the reviews for the egg rolls, I got an order of those too. They are delightfully crisp and didn't taste oily.

Give this small family business a shot. It was worth the little drive.

Such friendly service, and delicious food! I ordered crab rangoons, and my sweet and sour chicken entree came with an egg roll (or soup or crab rangoon). Would recommend. :)

The sweet and sour sauce is the kind that’s light in color instead of red, fyi.

Super awesome friendly guys making really good Chinese and Thai food. I ordered Generals chicken extra spicy and they sure did make it spicy. Just how I like it. Eggrolls best in the city.
