McHenry Park

Such a cute park tucked away in a cute neighborhood from busy streets. We went for the splash pad and my kids loved it!

A really nice park. The splash pad is great and it feels like they refinished the surface on it. The water runs off into a neat little creek. You can also see the river with how flooded it is now.

First time taking my son to a park and i could not have found a better park for him he loved the water area and the slides i could not get him to leave he had so much fun. Definitely will be taking him here more often!!!!!

This place has been my family's favorite park ever since we discovered it a few years back. I've had birthday parties for my daughter there and her and her friends absolutely love it. The splash pad is what we love the most, which had turned me into a kid again and now every time we go I'm always running through all the water shooters like an obstacle course, it's like a mini water park but safe for kids of all ages. So I highly recommend this place. You'll become a kid again too and have so much fun with your children.

It is a beautiful park with an amazing view of the city. Great for kids, adults and animals alike. Very unique and beautiful place.

Enjoyed meeting up with those attending who live near the area where I work & in the near area to where I lived for 4 years previously. I even had opportunity to meet a few 'new to me' folks who are connected to a partnering church I attend a bit west. The stuff brought in for the kiddies was great (those big blow-up contraptions, called-???). And very nice to have the gazillion hot dogs & cold water. I did not get the chance to interact with a few police officers and/or political faces (except one), as they were quite busy in conversations & doing that community communication thing. But certainly do appreciate their presence & the role they play in our communities.

Love our park!! Just had a graduation/going away party there today! Park staff was amazing, special thanks to Sue for all your help! Kids love the splash pad & playground!
Update: still love our park, but they need to put the new playground equipment in!
Also, why don't any parks put benches in the shade????

Awesome splash pad, with a little river that drains the water into a swimming hole of sorts. There are picnic tables under an awning and several play areas. Only real downside to this park is lack of shade in some area, and the neighborhood is a little sketch. Otherwise awesome park.

This is a very nice park. The city just resurfaced the splash pad and the kids love it. There is a small playground and a lot of open space. The trail along the Des Moines river below the park is well maintained and has great views.

Very nice time there. Several times a week we take our grandkids for a walk to this park. Well, we walk and they roll. Anyway, they have a nice splashpad and a mini river for kids to play in and a couple of picnic tables and a swingset.. It is connected by the bike path down the hill to the new Riverview park, or rather the renovated Riverview park where they have a wonderful new playground that has a lot of interesting things for kids interact with. To me they feel like 1 park. At Riverview there are two ponds and one can follow the bike path along the river and come back around to Riverview. Can see a variety of wildlife in the heart of the city on any gi en day.

It is lovely park. However,I went here on a weekend afternoon, and the shelter that has the bathrooms attached is right by the splashpad. I sat at the far end of the line of tables in the shelter to watch my grandchildren play and at the other end of the tables people were having a party and 1 of them told me to leave because it was a private party, and they had paid to reserve the shelter. It is an open-air shelter, so that just made it rather awkward. Thank goodness they couldn't kick us off the splash pad!!!

My kids (ages 3 and 7) had a BLAST! We were there for 3 hours and could have stayed longer. A bit busy, but there is plenty of space! Safe street parking. Some Pots for shade or sitting in the sun.

Brought my kiddos over there everyone is very friendly and nice. Great place to take the kids to cool down at the water park. It has a breath taking veiw of the river! Id highly recommend this to any parent that wants to take their kids somewhere. You can even find a nice place to even read a book also.

McHenry Park is a beautiful park with many new amenities added in recent years. It sits on a bluff overlooking the scenic Des Moines River. It's kid friendly with a great playground and sprayground. There are shelters, benches and a winding bike/walking trail. You'll want spend extra time there enjoying the park.

Great park. Lots to do and learn. I recommend you try this park if you have not already.

It was small but nice. There's a lake and some park equipment. It seems quite and like it could be one of those hidden gems that few people bother to use which keeps it nice and clean. Which also makes this review a little bitter sweet. Drawing attention to a hidden gem isn't something I like to do. Please be respectful if you visit.

Good time at the National Night Out event. Good neighbors, good food & drink, good fun! Face painter was awesome! Great to meet and chat with law enforcement personnel as well! The park is nice overall.

Spacious. The splash pad is really nice. Generally, it's always busy in the summer. The trail to Riverview park starts here and it is a gorgeous walk.

LOVE the shelter looking over the lagoon! I brought my dog & we just sat & enjoyed the VIEW! You can also see downtown 801 Grand, State Capital etc. Nice view!
