Cottins Hardware & Rental

Wanted to add to my review. Love this place. Doesn't feel like going to a big box store, yet they have a lot of stuff, some of it very surprising. Been surprised twice by them having woodworking tools I didn't expect a store to have: a marking gauge and a spoke shave. Everyone's always very friendly and they have a big sweet shop dog.

I was visiting my daughter from out of state and chose Cottins for a number of things I needed to get done at her apartment. Wow! I was there 3 times. So impressed with their friendly, personable, go the extra mile people. They didn’t carry a specific size metal stove burner liners that I needed so they recommended another local place to try, and that place did have them! That’s customer service! I felt like a person, not a transaction. Thank you Cottons! You made my tasks easy!

A great hardware store I can depend on. Other local hardware store employees are clueless to the basics. You ask other store employees for a 1 inch bolt they'll hand you a 2 inch bolt without any care in the world. If time is valuable to you go to Cottons.

Always choose this local, knowledgeable store for advice and service. They are as invested in your success and experiences as you are. You can get crazy stuff special order and it's a family, not a giant corporation. The markets are wonderful and a huge community service. Long live Cottins!

This is by far the best hardware store in town. Staff always offer to help you find what you need. For example, last week I had to get four things. One of the people working there, Lou, was wonderful, helped me find the things I needed, and I was on my way home in five minutes.

The level of customer service at Cottin’s is always amazing. I recently went in looking for a teeny tiny screw for my towel rod that I would have never found on my own. The associate that helped me spent a good amount of time helping me with a 45 cent purchase! They were patient and pleasant!

I'm new to both home owning and real basic maintenance stuff (never really had a yard, only had a basic multitool etc). Anytime I'm starting a new project I go here first. Even if they don't have the exact thing I need, they know how to do what I'm trying to do and give me good tips and are always careful to make sure I leave knowing what to expect. I really don't know what I would do without them! I ask them about all sorts of stuff from plumbing to plant care and they always know what I'm talking about and are excited to get me started. Great local business. Start here for whatever you need.

I cannot rave enough about the staff! They want to help and they know what they’re doing! So glad to have this place for our town!!

I called the store to ask if a product was available and the associate was very nice. They didn’t have the product in stock and said she’s never heard of the product. She offered to put me on hold and said she could definitively probably get the item for me! I needed the item today so I declined but I know she is going to probably order the product now! . I appreciate that she wants to have any and all products available for customers because it makes it a one stop shop almost every time! My friend has came in for a couple key copies and said she thought Cottin’s probably had the cheapest price for that in town! I will definitely be visiting cottin’s in person next time I need some hardware stuff🚖

Got my outside wall spigot dripping taken care of with only 75 cents. Best of the best in Lawrence!

Best hardware store in Lawrence...family owned and if you have a question,they can answer it. Also a treat on Thursday is a farmers market I the parking lot. I bought lettuce,onions,swiss chard , mushrooms and strawberry/rhubarb cake. Love this place

Cottin’s is the greatest hardware store in Lawrence, hands down. I love the cozy feel when I walk in and how friendly the employees are. I always find what I’m looking for! Support local businesses, y’all. I cannot stress it enough.

Cottins always comes through! I've been here many times for unusual items & they've helped me find what I needed. Great staff, good inventory. Hometown shopping at it's finest.

Cottin's really is a great all around hardware store. All the employees are super friendly and very helpful. They have definitely improved the service from when the Zimmerman's owned the store.

I usually check out this store before heading to the "other" hardware store, or big box retailers.

Haven't availed myself of the rental side of the business, but it's nice to know it's there if needed.

You are always greeted by someone asking if you need help finding something. That type of service you won't find in the big box store. If you say you're good then they leave you to it which is nice.

I always shop here when I’m able, but today was especially great. I was getting a product to declog my drain and I was in the process of purchasing the wrong thing. The cashier (whose name I didn’t catch, but he had round tortoise shell glasses!) talked me through best use and we decided I needed a different product. He potentially saved me from making my drain situation way worse. Thank you for being so well informed when I very clearly was not! ☺

Staff is always helpful and friendly. Maybe a bit too helpful. Never was one to have sales people breathing over my shoulder, but I'm sure they mean well. I still give them a 5 star.
There is nothing wrong with sales help. I do need it at times. I'd rather they be overly helpful than not at all!

The last mom and pop hardware store in town. Cottins has everything you may need for your next home project. The staff is nice and knowledgeable about their store. I will shop here everytime I can. Update: stopped to pick up things for 3x projects. One electrical. Second plumbing. And third drywall. Had everything I needed and had no wait in line.

As an artist, I find myself in hardware stores looking for all sorts of things, and often, the solution is in Cottin's. I really appreciate that I've never felt patronized or dismissed here, which is unfortunately a frequent experience at other hardware stores if you're a woman of smaller stature. The staff is knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. Definitely my first choice in Lawrence.
