Shady Rest Restaurant

First time at Shady Rest in Bayville won't be our last. I ordered the Steak Alexis, a 8oz But Steak topped with crab meat in a garlicky Cajun butter sauce. Mom had broiled scallops and a baked potato. Steak was prepared to perfection, service was excellent and the atmosphere was comfortable. Are waitress Joy gave us a enjoyable first experience. Can't wait to return.

Shady has been our go to spot since we moved to the area. Food is always on point, and the service/bartenders are always welcoming. It gets busy, so if you want to sit at the bar then get there early! Always start off with that Manhattan clam chowder 🤙🏼

Love the pizza, crabby bread and antipasto at Shady Rest. We often order take out. Shady Rest was awesome during the pandemic. They even had a sangria kit on the to-go menu. Been a fan for 50 years.

No contest: THE BEST pizza in Ocean County. The Shady Rest is an Ocean County treasure, & has had the same owners for over 50 years. The staff are friendly and attentive. There is an outdoor dining area as well. It may not have the bay view, but it is my top choice when dining in the area.
Pro Move: Great restaurant, but if you are dining in, booths are hard wooden seats. BYO seat cushions for a better dining experience.

Reminded me of marathon key great ambiance and relaxing atmosphere. Wonderful experience great staff and excellent service. Food was delicious and would highly recommend the baby carrot soup will definitely be back during summer to hang out

Tried Shady Rest from a recommendation. Delicious! I’ve only ordered their lobster bisque & steaks, but WOW! Steaks are on the level of Morton’s (in Atlantic City) without the $$$. Recommendations would be Steak Alexis (which they don’t have all the time), however, their 14oz Montreal is amazing as well! The wait can be long, but everything seems to be from scratch = worth the wait. Staff is friendly & knowledgeable. Food has been spot on every time. If you have the time, I highly recommend this place. It’s a unique atmosphere, with exceptionally clean fish tanks! I bet it surprises you! I’m hooked & will return!

Always good! Retro 70s/80s vibe... Brings me back to my youth. Food is always great, same bartender for over 20 years. Perfect.

Been coming here since i was 9. pizza is amazing and neck and neck with anchor inn. Favs are the antipasta salad and bobs chicken on fridays when we can. Salad is always very fresh and perfectly mixed. Chicken is always tender. On a cheat day we get the pizza also, new york style, good crunch and pizza is not thick. The sauce on the pizza has very good flavor.

The outdoor area is so cozy and has a great garden and bar. Very inviting.
Went for a quick lunch and will definitely return. Our server, Joy, was awesome. Very friendly, professional and attentive. Lunch was very good

my sister & I truly enjoyed our meals & Nathan, our waiter, was super friendly & kept on top of food & drinks.

Stopped by today for a late lunch. It was such a beautiful day so we ate outside in the Rose Garden. The waitress was awesome as well as the food! I highly recommend anyone to go to the Shady Rest any time for a great meal or quick sandwich!

Very friendly staff, great lunch specials, good beer selection. It’s great to eat in the outside rose garden in the spring, you have to see it to understand. Meet the owner an absolute legend in ocean fly tying.

Shady Rest is a local find that gives me the feeling of comfort whenever we visit. We usually go after 4:00 mass on Saturdays & never had to wait. Food is not "fine dining" but it is good, large portions & always served with a smile. The staff is so friendly & welcoming. Drinks are generous- Margaritas with Grand Marnier splash are amazing but one is plenty! The atmosphere inside is warm & cozy- outside it's a garden party! Beautiful rose vines adorn the walls forming a canopy overhead. It's the most unique food find I have ever had the pleasure to share.

This is the cutest little treasure!! Worth the ride down Route 9. I had the Cream of Carrot Soup and it was soooo good.

Small place but it is so cute and cozy on the inside! Food is delicious, especially the pizza. 🍕 Highly recommend. It is a thinner crust.
They have a raw bar outside, cute and cozy seating as well. Definitely recommend for drinks/food/ place to hang out.

Loved the atmosphere, staff was friendly, and the first time I came last week, it was very busy I couldn't wait, as I was leaving the staffed stopped me and realized someone was paying and we went back, which you won't find to often that a restaurant will do that. This is my new favorite place!! And FYI to everyone....Order the French onion soup! A-mazing!
