French priest, the Abbé Julien Gouyet discovered a small stone building on a mountain overlooking the Aegean Sea and the ruins of ancient Ephesus in Turkey. He believed it was the house described by Emmerich and where the Virgin Mary had lived the final years of her life

Very solemn place to visit. We came here late in the afternoon on a Monday and there was very little crowd. There are shops to purchase holy water or you can bring your own container to fill up from a holy water spring at the bottom of the walkway. The Virgin Mary’s house itself is a very modest tiny home. You will walk through the front door and you find some candles to light outside (donations recommended). You will exit right into what is believed to be The Virgin Mary’s bedroom.

The House of Virgin Mary in Turkey is a serene and spiritually uplifting destination that left a profound impact on me. Nestled amidst lush greenery and overlooking the stunning landscape, this sacred site exudes an aura of tranquility and reverence.

Visiting the House of Virgin Mary felt like stepping into a place of deep spiritual significance. As I entered the humble stone house, I could sense the weight of history and the devotion that has surrounded it for centuries. It is believed to be the final residence of the Virgin Mary, and the atmosphere resonates with a sense of reverence and holiness.

The interior of the house has been meticulously preserved, allowing visitors to glimpse into the life of Mary and experience a connection to her legacy. The simple furnishings and religious artifacts created an intimate and contemplative ambiance, evoking a profound sense of peace and reflection.

Very beautiful and tranquil place.
Best month to visit is May.
Pictures inside the house are not allowed.
You will need around 1/2 to 1 hour max to see this place.
You will need some paper and a pen if you want to put your wishes on the wishing wall.

The house of Virgin Mary is a must see when visiting Turkey. It was really neat to see it and drink the holy water and write wishes on the wall. It was a quick stop up the mountain with our tour guide before we headed to the Ephesus. You can’t take photos inside the house. There was free bathrooms and souvenirs and places to eat. Overall really cool must come visit!

This was the most humbling experience for me. God’s own chosen Mary lived her life in the most modest of dwelling imaginable. There is a certain serenity and tranquility to this place, which calms you, de-stresses you and soothes your angst, just like it is to be in your mother’s lap. It has now been converted to a chapel. Decent dressing and silence is the only ask of this place. Entry is ticketed but the money is taken by the town authorities; the chapel seeks no contribution.

The house was discovered in the 19th century by following the descriptions in the reported visions of Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774–1824), a Roman Catholic nun and visionary, which were published as a book by Clemens Brentano after her death.
While the Catholic Church has never pronounced in favour or against the authenticity of the house, the site has nevertheless received a steady flow of pilgrimage since its discovery. Anne Catherine Emmerich was beatified by Pope John Paul II on October 3, 2004.

Catholic pilgrims visit the house based on the belief that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken to this stone house by Saint John and lived there for the remainder of her earthly life.

The shrine has merited several papal Apostolic Blessings and visits from several popes including Paul VI, John Paul II, and Benedict XVI.

Beautiful place!
Please note that the shrine does not charge the entry. It's the local government that charges the fee to rip off tourists. Again, the shrine does NOT charge a fee, the local government does.

The house of Mary is a nice place, it is very close to Efesus ruins which makes it easy to enjoy both places. It’s a bit small yet the original is smaller. You can’t take pictures which I don’t get whit but those are their rules.

Located up in the mountain, it has clean air with lot of trees. Good place to pray as well.

This place is worth a visit, a little detour drive from Ephesus, if it would be meaningful for you in a spiritual sense. It only takes a couple of minutes to see the house (no photography allowed inside) so half an hour to see the entire area is plenty.

Müze kart geçersiz!

Meryem Ana Kilisesi, located in the picturesque town of Selcuk, Turkey, is a truly breathtaking and spiritual experience. The church is built on the site where it is believed that the Virgin Mary spent her last days, and as soon as you step inside, you can feel the peaceful energy that permeates the air.

The interior of the church is simple yet elegant, with beautiful stained glass windows and a statue of the Virgin Mary herself. The altar is adorned with candles and flowers, creating a serene and calming atmosphere that is perfect for contemplation and reflection.

One of the highlights of my visit was the opportunity to light a candle and make a wish. The act of lighting a candle and saying a prayer is a tradition that has been practiced for centuries, and it was a powerful and emotional experience to take part in.

Outside the church, there is a beautiful garden where visitors can walk and reflect. The garden is filled with fragrant flowers and trees, and there are several benches where you can sit and take in the tranquil surroundings.

Overall, I highly recommend a visit to Meryem Ana Kilisesi for anyone seeking a spiritual and peaceful experience. The church is a true gem and a testament to the enduring power of faith and devotion.
