Super amazing! You must see this! Be aware: it is super warm. Come as early as possible, make sure to have enough water with you, sunscreens etc! Prices in 2021 July were 120 lira to enter the site and 55 lira in addition to see the terrace houses.

Stunning place. Guides know there stuff so if you want help learning some history, grab yourself a guide! Tourist shop is a little pricey, as to be expected, so if you need a drink or some food, grab it feom the little shops set up by locals outside the gates! Dont forget to haggle! Go, see, learn, have fun!

A site to be visited even if like guides explain most of constructions and edifices have been rebuilt to offer you a concrete sight of what had been the streets and the buildings. You should ask for a guide to get the right explainations. To visit alone will bring you only an overall and not complete view od this very nice place.

Historical landmark with a intriguing story to it. Takes about 3 hours to explore leisurely . Quite a lot to walk. I loved listening to the wonderful stories my tour guide had to say.
Also , plus point , this place has a lot of cats living here.

Easy place to notice for the entrance to most incredible complexes of archeology sites Ephesus. The best place to assemble for both entrance and exit before merry up for coach transfer to next destination. Many cats here ..... and it was strange because they are so cute, look healthy and clean cats. Full of shops that you may buy locals souvenirs and famous fresh pamogranate juice or orange juice from here.

Actually two separate sites; the ancient city of Ephesus lies about a mile outside the modern town of Selcuk, and is one of the most visited places in Turkey. It gets very busy, so go as early as possible. Buy a multi-ticket for the museum, Ephesus, the houses and St John's basilica if you have the time to visit them all (pref. 2 days at least). It really is well worth it. Start with Ephesus itself; - If you're into history at all, you can practically drown in it here. It's stunning. So much to see I can't do it justice here. Take your own cold drinks; you'll need them and they're eye-wateringly expensive inside.
The museum is in the town (Selcuk) itself, and contains all the valuable stuff from the whole area, including the famous Artemis statues. It is one of the nicest, cleanest, coolest, best laid out museums in the world. Don't be put off.
Also take the time to visit the site of the ancient temple of Artemis - a short walk from the museum. There isn't much left to see, but it was once one of the seven wonders of the world, and for the little effort it takes, you'll feel better for having been. And it's free.

Very historical place. These stones though can't speak but it talks a lot more clear message about Ephesus.
Love being there. Please carry water bottles with you and nice camera.

Visiting Efes you should have a least 5 hours to look around. First it looks just a lot of stones but it is a history. Having a good tour guide is very helpful. Read the information tables and you make a photo for later review. Ona practical site have a sun cream and big bottle of water. Inside you can buy it.
Definitely go on the top of the theatre. The view is great and you can image where the sea was before. Yes Efes was a port but now is far from the sea. Go to visit to hear the entire story

Wonderfully maintained ruins. Our tour guide helped us get an insight into the grandeur of the place. The amphitheater & the majestic library stand tall reminding us of the grand past. Loved it !
It got a little warm though as the day progressed so hats & sunscreen are a must.
There are souvenir shops & eating joints at the entrance.

Absolutely astounding. You get a real sense of history and can imagine Greeks and Romans in flowing robes filling the streets. The scale of the town is epic and the site justifies a minimum of a full day to fully explore and appreciate.

A must see if you're around the area of Kuşadasi, I missed it the first time I came here but made sure not to again. Ephesus is a stunning show of ancient Greek ruins, showing history and the intelligence of the Greeks all those years back. Areas have been restored but there is a lot of original ruins there still to see. Including the incredible library, brothel, public toilets and amphitheatre.

Ephesus has a long history, human settlement dating from c6000B.C, to its decline in the Middle ages.
Its importance was due to its situation on the shore of the bay into which the river Cayster drains.
Excavations have provided evidence that there was a Mycenaean settlement here.
During the Hittite Period the the name of the city was Apasas.
Students of 5th Century B.C.Athens will find much material of interest as the fortunes of the city ebbed and flowed with the conflict between Persia and Greece. After his defeat in Greece in 479B.C.,Xerxes plundered all the temples on his way back to Persia but he did not touch the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus. During the Peloponnesian War between 431B.C. and 404B.C., Ephesus supported Sparta against Athens and joined the rebellion against Athens in 412 B.C. As a reward for this support Ephesus was transformed into a military headquarters by the Spartan king Agesilaus in response to threats made by the Persians.
The capture of the city by Alexander the Great in 334B.C. heralded a 50 year period of prosperity for the city.
After the death of Alexander, the city was under the control of Lysimachus, one of Alexander's generals who relocated it to the valley between Mount Koressos and Mount Pion.
When the Romans defeated the Syrian king Antiochus in 189B.C., the city was left to the kingdom of Pergamon who bequeathed it to Rome. A rebellion by the cities of Western Anatolia was ruthlessly suppressed by Lucius Cornelius Sulla.
During the Augustian Period, Ephesus became one of the most important cities of Roman Asia and the building works conducted during this time emphasised this.
In 57A.D., the Theatre was the site of a riot against the new religion of Christianity taught by Saint Paul.
The city was sacked by the Goths in 262A.D. and, despite never returning to its former glory, Constantine built a bathhouse and Arcadius constructed a grand street from the Theatre to the harbour.
At the beginning of the Middle Ages the river port silted up and Ephesus lost its importance as centre of international trade.
My thanks go to the archaeologist I. Akan Atila for the details of my brief sketch which I hope will kindle further interest in this marvellous site of antiquity.
