İsa Bey Mosque

This mosque is very unique. The mosque has two domes.It's between temple and church. The design is't like as usual mosque. This mosque is still repaired more, but we can have good pray indeed.

Selcuk style architecture that amaze you when visit this historic mosque. Still functioning and some area in restoration progress. The Mosque have special features and identity that made its architecture different than most of the Mosque in Turkey. Located next to oldest and largest bacillica made this unique building easy to be notice and can be visited for many tourists. North entrance on refurbishment on my visit and you may still enter from south entrance. Ample space for tourists coach parking or cars. You may need to wear suitable shoes to climb up to the entrance. For Muslims.... Ablation area in the garden has no warm or hot water so during winter just get ready with towel or tissue. Women may need to take your ablation earlier before enter and praying here as there's no separate ablation for you. It's a nice and beautiful mosque to enjoy both history and architecture

A beautiful, peaceful mosque with lots of birds living within its walls. Features for tourists include scarves and books on Islam/ Qurans in a variety of languages. WC also available free of charge.

Beautiful structure with a rich history. Only a short walk from Basilica of St. John. You can also visit the interior of the mosque. For women they provide head scarf and body cover.

One of the earliest big mosques in anatolia built in 14th century.

This is the only mosque named Isa or Jesus in the world, naming after the commander Isa Bey. This historical building located near the Saint’s John Basilica.

It was built by the architect, 'Ali b. Mushaimish Dımışklıoğlu, in honor of the Aydinid İsa Bey.[2] The plans for the mosque are based on the Great Mosque of Damascus.[3]

By 1829, the mosque was in ruins and by 1842 the minaret had fallen down.[4] In the 19th century, it was also used as a caravanserai. There is an octagonal Seljuk türbe made of stone and bricks, with a pyramid shaped roof, right next to the mosque.

I dunno if it's just me... But I felt an overwhelming sense of calm when I set foot into this mosque... And I've been to many mosques... But the tranquility of this mosque... I rmb this peaceful feeling that came over me distinctly even after many years ❤

Historical mosque of Selcuk with a unique architecture compared to other mosques in Turkey. The entrance is up a flight of stairs and opens into a huge courtyard which leads to the prayer area.

Isa Bey Mosque is one of the most delicate examples of Seljukian architecture, situated below the basilica of St. John. The mosque was built by the master Syrian architecture Ali son of Mushimish al -Damishki, between the years of 1374 and 1375.

The mosque was styled asymmetrically unlike the traditional style, The location of the windows, doors and domes were not matched, purposely. In the entrance of the mosque, an inscription from the god decorates the doorway. The columns inside the house of prayer are from earlier ruins in Ephesus, making an interesting contrast to the mosque.

The domes are ornamented by turquoise and blue faience, revealing the characteristic of Ottoman style. Crown-like doors from Seljukian architectural style later combine with the specific decoration elements of architectural style. The mosque was repaired in 1934. The mystical atmosphere of "Isa Bey Mosque" must be experienced in the excursion around this region.

Beautiful, Peaceful and Friendly Locals. There are gift shops just outside the mosque. It belongs to the imam of the mosque. Proceeds will go to the mosque. Maintaining, rebuilding etc. ♡

Too quite for mosque, but its garden so nice. Only one person as Imam when we came for Maghrib Pray.
