Igreja de São José

This is the church that my great grandfather was baptized in. The altar is beautiful with gold leaf everywhere. The church is dedicated to both St. Joseph and to Mary’s Immaculate conception. It also has a side altar to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Sunday mass at 11am with LIVE choir is a treat like no other in the island.

Absolutely beautiful! A definite must for anyone visiting Sao Miguel. Entry is not well marked out - one of the main gates was opened when we visited, so we let ourselves in (no doors were locked - so we assumed it was OK to enter).

La chiesa di Sao José a Ponta Delgada è la chiesa più grande delle Azzorre.
Si trova in una bella piazza proprio accanto al forte. La facciata è composta dalla tipica pietra lavica nera alternata a muratura dipinta di bianco. A tre navate, presenta un altare riccamente decorato in lamina d'oro e altri 2 altari molto belli nelle navate laterali. Entrando a deatra non perdete la cappella con il fonte battesimale, con bellissimi azulejos. Molti dipinti e arredi barocchi. Sicuramente da visitare.

Es muy bonita, la arquitectura exterior es llamativa, como podréis ver aquí la piedra volcánica se utiliza mucho y mezclada con pintura blanca queda bien.

Eine sehr schöne kleine Kirche mitten in Ponta Delgada. Der Stil in der Kirche ist in Barock gehalten. Sollte man sich unbedingt einmal anschauen.

Uma igreja Muito Bonita no Centro de Ponta Delgada. Sem palavras para descrever esse lugar cheio de obras de arte e Casa de Deus!

Igreja muito alta e com muita arte no seu interior

Magnífica oecacde barroco português.

Sehr schöner und überwältigenden Ort

O maior templo da ilha, iniciado em 1709. Passou por algumas vicissitudes e restauros ao longo dos tempos. Composto por três naves com arcos pintados, sendo os altares decorados em talha dourada. A sacristia possui belo mobiliário barroco em jacarandá. As janelas da Capela de Nossa Senhora das Dores são consideradas um dos mais representativos exemplos do estilo barroco de São Miguel. Destacam-se ainda os painéis de azulejos datados do século XVIII . Possui um orgão de tubos encomendado a Lisboa em 1797 e restaurado pelo organeiro açoriano, Dinarte Machado em 1995.
Houve uma primitiva igreja no local, sob a invocação de Nossa Senhora da Conceição, remontando ao século XVI e que pertencia ao Mosteiro da Ordem de São Francisco.
Sem dúvida um monumento religioso a visitar sem falta.
