Restaurante Maré Cheia

We’ve discovered that many restaurants have same dishes here. This one stood out, and the quality of seafood you get here is noticeably different. We left this place feeling really full, highly recommend it!

Absolutely delicious food - they walk out with a platter of raw, fresh caught fish that you choose from. We got tuna steak (rare), one of the whole fish, and grilled mussels. Best meal on the island!!

Loved that place. Their fish soup was the best I’ve ever tried in my life….sooooo delicious. I also tried limpets and they were perfect. We paid 70€ for lunch: 4ppl, soups, 2 fishes, mussels, some bread, drinks.

We came here hoping to get some delicious Azorean seafood, and were satisfied and then some. When you arrive, the day's fresh catches are brought straight to you, and you choose what you wan to be made. The fish itself is fresh, delicious, and affordable. A must try for anyone nearby on São Miguel.

Great food and very friendly service. Outside front doesn't look very wellcoming, but inside it's really nice and the staff is very friendly!

The freshest fish we ever had, they bring you the fish to your table and you can choose and see how fresh it actually is. Lapas Grelhadas was also one of the best we had on the island.

The Restaurant is a small Place and feels more like eating in the house of a fisherman than eating in a restaurant but for me this made it way more amazing!

After a busy day around the island, we decided to do takeaway and it was excellent! We had the beef steak (french fries & rice) and a cheeseburger (fries). The steak was cooked to perfection as was the burger. Fries were hot and crispy, tough to pull off when using to-go. As we were staying at a Airbnb directly across from the restaurant, Andre’ was kind enough to deliver. Must do when in town!

This was the best grilled fish, we had on the islands. The fish was perfect, side vegetables were so good and the sauce complimented everything! Can only recommend!

Amazing whole/butterfly-ed fish platter. Could not have asked for a better early dinner. 100% would recommend and would go back if I had more time on the island.

Fantastic culinary experience. The waiter brought us a plate full of fresh fish to choose from. The fish was very well cooked and seasoned. The chocolate mousse was also excellent. Would definitely recommend!

We are on the Azores since two weeks now having restaurants each evening. This very small restaurant is clearly one of the best fish restaurants beside O petisca on Pico or the caloura on sao miguel. Clearly they dont like reservations because we called first and they said they are full but we were on the beach in front of the restaurant allready and surprise: we got a table when we tried. Honestly I also dont like these reservation marathon all the time. All restaurants are blocked and nobody is there. So this is not a minus for me.
The staff was very polite, fast and helpful and the fish very very very good. The cook showed us the fish first so we can decide which one. Really cool. Clear recommendation but please dont call, just be there early enough and have a try.

This place was so good we ate there twice. You pick the fresh fish and they then cook it to perfection. Without a doubt the best fish I ever had.

We shared a selection of three fresh fish that were filleted and grilled, then served with three kinds of potatoes (including a delicious local variety) and a dish of some fabulous mixture of olive oil, onion, lemon juice, and parsley. Everything was fantastic! It was 15 euros each for the grilled fish dishes and that was more than enough for four hungry adults. We highly recommend Maré Cheia!

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant! It's definitely one of the best on the island and comes highly recommended. The food has a charming homemade quality to it that I found delightful. I personally feel it deserves recognition in the Michelin guide. I suggest taking the owner's recommendations into consideration when deciding what to order, as they truly know their stuff. Lastly, don't forget to try their delicious fish soup—it's a highlight not to be missed!

You are looking for fresh seafood? Stop searching. You've found the best place to be for seafood on the Azores. The owner shows you the daily catch (every day fresh from the harbour), you choose, you get the whole grilled fish. Fresh, local, traditionel. The way it should be. Ps ask for the tuna day and enjoy a tuna steak caught in the morning. 👍 Pps try the house wine

The food is really great. But what we loved most was a fish soup. Rather simple but the aroma of the broth... it is fantastic! We've been twice and never regretted

A really nice restaurant with good and fresh fish. Northing too sophisticated, but really good because of the high quality of the Ingredients. The fresh fish that are available were shown to us so we could pick one. The waiter spoke good english and explained about the fish and the wine, so that we can also highly recommend the place to tourists who don't know any portuguese.
