Absolutely beautiful park! It costs 4 euros to enter. We witnessed a group of 3 adults and 5 children climbing over the fence to get into the park for free. I feel bad for these people because 4 euros is a good fee for this place and would like to see this place developed further.
Lovely paths, a beautiful waterfall (one of the best I've seen on the island in this non rainy season) and a marvellous area with birds walking freely in the clearing. My only regret is that a large number of chickens are kept in a cage. The birds should be free.

Amazing private park with species from around the world, just beautiful, gorgeous waterfall with lovely walk through the jungle :), massive redwood tree, chickens and peacocks, place is kept lovely by keepers, the entry fee is minimal and totally worth it knowing it goes towards to ppl looking after the place. Beautiful church that was built by Jose do canto for his wife who died before him. . Friendly staff.

Amazing forest and garden! Named after Jose do Canto a renowned botanist. The construction of the neo gothic church inside the park was commissioned by him, too. Recommended!

Beautiful place, with great nature surroundings (waterfall), plants (among them was sequoias, magnolias, ferns and eucalyptus), and birds.
The place is almost empty from tourist, so you can walk alone with no one bothering you.

Beautiful trails, trees, camelias and a waterfall as well as a neo-gothic church which looks like you could be on the shore of a Scottish loch. Spent about a 90 minutes here

I liked the park. It took us nearly 2 hours to walk here. Entrance fee is 3€ and you can come close to Chapel, walk in the park and also visit nice waterfall. On the way to waterfall there is Sequoia in the jungle. Dont miss Vale dos Fetos on the right side from cash desk. It should be much better to visit during Camellias blooming season.

The park is amazing. It’s a must have to visit it. You can learn a lot of the nature and it’s a park for the whole family. If you are in the rain time there be careful by the waterfall. It can come a lot of water or a rock fall. The park have ducks, chicken and turkeys.

This is a must not miss opportunity to see a sequoia sempervirens in the wilderness in Europe. Beside Palazzo Sammezzano located in Toskany, Italy it’s the only location I know. A gorgeous waterfall completes this visit.

The walk to the waterfall (Salto do Rosal) is around 1,5 km, it gets steep at the end.

This seems like a really cool park, but unfortunately we visited after a huge storm and there were lots of trees down and flooding. Even so, it was an enjoyable walk down the road to see the lake and the chapel (and the Gandalf carving, of course).

Lovely walk around a beautiful garden
Surprises around every corner
Old Sequoia was amazing and the remote walk to the waterfall was breath taking
Then walking around the botanical area we stumbled across plenty of birds including peacocks and a very funny beady eyed territorial chicken,
Fully recommend

We almost missed this fantastic place, as we had no previous info about it. Walking around the lake we decided to continue the walk inside, and it proved to be a very good decision: stunning vegetation, lots of information about the plants, a beautiful giant sequoia tree and a spectacular waterfall is waiting for you inside. Entrance fee is 3 Eur, we all agreed that it was money well spent.
