Impressive collection of military and artillery war pieces. Was only 3€ per person to enter and was pretty empty, giving us good time to read through the history of each item.
It’s nice to walk around the military base, view over the wall to the ocean, and visit all the rooms with relics from many different periods.

Would recommend checking this place out. They give a family discount so for the five of us, it only cost 5 euros which is amazing, where as a solo is 3 euros a person.
One of the best forts I have yet to visit. I loved the displays of the weapons through the years during the recent wars. The tunnels were neat to walk in and climbing the walls to the top offered some cool views.

Very interesting collection of military historical pieces. There is plenty to see and discover. You really need to go through all the passages to pass all the rooms. The views of Ponta Delgada and the port from the fort roof are excellent.

Very interesting military museum. With artillery, cannons, uniforms and musical band instruments. Fantastic views of the port and city.

The entrance fee is 3 euros per adult and 1 euro per kid. So it's fairly cheap. Once in the museum there are no clear directions and you figure it out as you go. Most of the things you see are identified but there is no one there to guide you or to answer questions. Part of the fort is moldy and very humid which made us not want to spend much time in there. The highly was visiting the roof of the fort which allows us to have a good view on the port and the city.

You get to see a lot for just €3 per adult and €2 for under 14 year old. It's an old fort and the exposition is well thought, taking you through the different rooms using the old tunnels of the fort. You will be able to learn a lot about the first World War and the involvement of the Azores in the war. Massive display of rifles and firearms showing the evolution of warfare on the Portuguese Armed Forces, also some army vehicles on display but not many of them.
The Ultramar War, the colonies war, is also a big part of the museum, you will see the firearms used in the war, which battalions fought in the war and also which colonies they were fighting.
Definitely recommended place to visit it will keep you entertained for more than a couple hours.

Visited prior to our flight out of the Azores. We were impressed with the collection. We could have spent much more time there. Great historical collections in a wonderful space to exhibit the items.

For the 3 Euro entrance fee this place is an excellent value and if you're interested in history and the military you shouldn't miss this place. Enter through the gate of the fortress and there's a room to the right to purchase a ticket. Look up. From there pass through to the left to take a look at a selection of anti-aircraft weapons and a pair of early Uni-mogs. Through to the right are a series of rooms and tunnels displaying assorted infantry weapons and uniforms. It's really quite good and definitely worth the price. After looking through the rooms take the stairs or ramp to the top of the fortress to see the installation guns looking out over the Atlantic Ocean. Finally, after leaving the fortress go around to the street and have a look at the First World War memorial. Highly recommended.

The number of exhibits is awesome - the Forte doesn't look large enough to house them but around every corner is another room or passage with more.

It was really interesting. Many old army vehicles and marvels of engineering. The staff speaks excellent English, although, it's a shame that the infoboards are not translated on other languages.

The ticket was 3 euros (cash only). It´s a pretty interesting place to visit. There is a fort built in the 16th century and a small museum full of guns and other military equipment from various generations.
