Restaurante José do Rego

This looks like an authentic fish restaurant and it is. Tried barnacles (craca) first time in my life, grilled rockfish and white garlic bread. Barnacle eating had high entertainment value, tasted like good crab. The grilled fish and sandwich are common foods unlike barnacles. However, they have a lot of exotic sea creatures in their store, some of them alive in the aquarium.

As a connoisseur of garlic bread I must praise their garlic bread. I know that it is not very easy to make tasty garlic bread from wheat bread (as opposed to rye bread). They made it tasty.

Wonderful neighborhood place. Outside is deceiving, as it is very spacious inside. The seafood is very fresh and well-prepared and the service was excellent. Our server spoke perfect English and made many fine recommendations. Portions were generous.

Exceptional food and very good serving. Normal prices but the quality of food exceeds the expectations. Huge parking in the back of the restaurant. Friendly stuff . English speaking. Cards accepted

Probably one of the best restaurants in Sao Miguel. Simple, good cooked food, grilled fresh fish and a very nice service! Lapas and boca negra fish is a must! We will come back for sure!

This was our first restaurant straight from the airport and we we’re mesmerized by the tastes! The rice with seafood, fresh fish and overall experience was amazing. The staff is super friendly- this is traditional spot for the area - you could see the fish fresh from the sea and feel the acores tastes there in the best way possible

Delicious restaurant. So many menu options. Lots of seating for big groups. Staff was so great and everything was so clean.!

Amazing limpets, the best on the island without a doubt. The service was lovely and the price was more than fair for the quality of the food. Totally recommendable. We went twice because we were impressed the first time.

Delicioso! Amazing food, every option was mouth watering, I ate myself into a stupor! All starte sharing size but we got too many, got to try many things that aren’t usually served to visitors, I recommend the chicken gizzards. Host did not speak English much but that didn’t stop him making sure we wanted for nothing. The best place I’ve eaten out in the island

HIGHLY recommended! The BEST squid I’ve ever had. Cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. We tried the pieces of cod starter, which was like a cod ceviche and was delicious with bread. Great, friendly service from our server, Nelson, and everything was priced well, especially given the large portion sizes and how good it is. Would come back here again and again.

Very good local food. Reasonable prices and very good quality of ingredients. Try the fish of the day and the pineapple Sangria. So delicious. The staff may give you good recommendations of your preferences.

Went there a few times to have lunch the food was really tasty and fresh. My wife and I had the seafood rice for 2. Had to wait a bit for the food, glad we did as the food was made to order very fresh indeed. Will definitely go back to this restaurant the staff are pleasant but not pushy just the way it should be.

The food and service was wonderful amd our server was fantastic. He made great recommendations, including the local sweet bread and garlic appetizer and a house-made bean tart for dessert. So good!

I've been to different Restaurants in the five days I stayed in São Miguel and this Restaurant was so far the best one I found! I went everyday to the Restaurant and I could make it again. First of all because the staff is really friendly and always smiling, especially Ana Rita. A big thank you to Ana Rita to be so friendly and to show that she really like what she's doing. Second: Do you know the feeling when you are full and you can't eat nothing more but the food it's so fresh and tasty and you just can't stop to eat? So that happened to me, normally I can't eat everything when the portion is too big but here I could eat everything and the reason it's because of the food. The food it's really tasty and you just wanna eat more and more :D
The price is really cheap for the quality you get. I will recomend to all my friends that are going to visit São Miguel.

Very good Fish and delicious desert

Wonderful local place with great food, lots of variety and cheap prices. The staff is super friendly and kind as well. Cozy atmosphere. If you're looking for a local place to taste the Azores culture - that's the place.
