I was a bit worried because of the reviews here. But it's been a very good experience. The car was really nice and the return and pick up process went smoothly.

Despite others reviews I had several good experiences with ilha Verde. Of course you need to read the contract you sign, but that's being an adult.
For example, if the car is not cleaned inside you will have to pay a surplus (I believe it's 7 euros), but there is at a least one place 5 minutes far from the airport where you can vacuum the car (24/7).
The cars given to me were always a good cleaned and perfectly functioning, and of course cheaper that the competitors.
The guys at the desk can speak perfectly English and they are ready to help you

Very smooth experience from start to finish. We were scared by the negative reviews but decided to give this place a try (booked through TUI rentals with TUI insurance). The pickup went very well and the staff was friendly and patient. We had to wait a bit in line but in total not longer than 30 minutes. The car we had was a slight upgrade from what we’d booked at no extra charge and almost brand new. It was perfect to travel the island and get through even the smallest, narrowest streets. The return process was also simple and we didn’t have to pay anything extra. The pre-authorization reversal of our deposit was done in 5 minutes and we had more than enough time to wait for our flight at the airport. We will definitely book again.

Great experience with Ilha Verde, very quick and easy pick up with a helpful gentleman at the desk - Tiago. He explained everything very well and left me reassured. Car was reasonably new with 7000km on the dashboard. We got the full insurance with the company and there were no issues on drop off, it’s honestly worth it for a stress free car rental. Price was reasonable especially in comparison to other car rentals at the airport. Pick up is also in arrivals. I always am wary of rental car companies, so it has made me happy that we had a great experience with Ilha Verde!

Everything went as it should. Check in took 15 minutes. The car was a Ford Fiesta, it was in good condition. I had it on loan for 10 days without a single fault. According to the advice, I took a picture of the condition of the car when taking it over. On return, the staff were pleasant and everything went quickly and smoothly. I used the branch at Ponta Delgada airport. I don't understand some of the negative reviews.

I had some mixed feelings when I was making my reservation, because of all sorts of reviews I could find online. From poor to really good. My experience was definitely a good one. Staff was extremely nice. Smiling and joking. Car was reliable and clean. No problems on return. If you don't damage the car, look after it for the duration of your rental, refuel it... you will have absolutely no problems. A good price, too!

I had a very good experience. I got a very good deal on a price comparison website for rent for 5 days, and I took their deal to switch for a diesel car for only 15euro extra. The car was good and comfortable (very recent, less than a year old). They did warn me about the cleaning fee and I took lots of photos of the car to make sure I wasn't blamed for existing scratches, but I didn't have to pay anything extra at the end. I also didn't have to wait very long to get the car or to deliver, but maybe I was lucky.

I was a little bit afraid because of the bad ratings but I was positive surprised. The prebooking price was really cheap (110€ for 9 Days incl. full Insurance). My flight arrived 2h later than sheudeled and I was really worring that I wont get my Car anymore as they officially closed 1h before my arrival but they still waited for me. I just needed to pay around 30€ extra fee for that what is okay for me as its better than having no Car in the middle of the night. The checkin was fast and the agent was really kind and gave me a free bigger car as upgrade as I am very tall. The guy who gave me the car was very kind too and told me to take pictures in daylight. The car (Ford Fiesta) had some damages and around 80k km but was driving perfectly fine, especially in the mountains. As I gave back I was asked to show my pictures as one damage was not clear, but as it was visible on my pics so they accepted it without discussion. In my opionion this is a low budget rental service who charges for any extras, but they are really fair and efficient. If you know the rules and keep them I can recommend.

Great experience. The queue was huge but the staff was friendly, helpful and very professional. They provided clear explanations to all our questions.

We rented a Ford Focus - for 5 days - with multiple scratches which we pointed out at the inspection. We caused no additional damages.

Before the return, we washed the car at the washer and cleaned the floor mats without a vacuum cleaner. (We always return rented cars and leave airbnb homes as clean as possible. This is how we are.). Unfortunately the staff noticed a small dent on one of the doors that we did not notice at pickup. They quickly checked their photo database with previous damages and concluded that this was not caused by us.

We might have been lucky, not sure, but maybe we gave a good impression by taking good care of the car.

Great local rental company, nice new car. We had a flight delay and arrived at 3 am. And they were waiting for us. Great price on the car. Drive the island three times and used €30 in gas, half tank total. I’ll rent from them again.

I had nothing but friendly, clear, fast, and helpful service from pick up to return.
Unfortunately I had an experience with damage/theft, (cut fuel tube and theft of fuel) in Ponta Delgada. Still everything went well with damage report and police file report. Ilha Verde provided us within 15 minutes with a bright clean upgrade of car. I have been given all the documents I need to claim with Car Del Mar. Since I had the premium insurance, the costs of this damage/theft should be reimbursed by Car Del Mar. Let's see how that goes....

We used them for our time on Sao Miguel in April. We must have lucked out with picking up the car and dropping it off because we didn't have any lines to wait in like others have mentioned. I was nervous to use them after reading so many negative reviews, but we had no issues at all. Thumbs up from us.

Friendly and efficient staff, easy pickup and drop-off. It feels like of these reviews don’t give justice. Since I’ve also been vary while reading these before booking I try to keep in mind that usually only people with problems or who have caused such write reviews to complain. So here’s a good feedback. We’ve been very happy with the service and would book again.

Everything worked very well for us. Excellent car. Friendly staff and no troubles when returning the car. And the car was very very useful at the island. November prices (outside season?) were very good.

All good. Car was 3 years old, clean and reliable. Return process was fast and deposit returned immediately.

We were a little worried because of the bad feedback on Ilha Verde here - but in the last weeks we booked a few times with them and everything was perfectly fine. Every service person we had to do with was very friendly (even after their official closing time at 0:30 AM) and our cars were almost new.
