I just can agree what previous reviews of this restaurant were saying: The best food we had on our stay in Vila Franka. Sure, just a small menu and not on the water front. But by far the better choice for dining. My wife had prawns and I had beef, both very good. Not sure what the beef was called but it was a kind of rib-eye, very well roasted and the quality of the meat was just great.
As dessert we had pineapple with port wine ice cream which also had the quality of a gourmet restaurant.
Service was also very good but there were very few guests. No Idea why.
Absolutely recommended!

Superb food and drinks, chill vibes and music, patient waiter, plenty of parking on the street and more behind the wall. Very romantic place!

The place is classy, well appointed, and accommodating. We ordered fish(sardines, fried to perfection; can be grilled too) and chicken which were both delicious, and cooked to perfection, so were the vegetables and prepared salad that came with them. The staff were friendly, courteous and explained the menu. The chef personally came out to talk with us. He answered our questions and gave us recommendations too for places to see around the area. He gave us his own personal book guide and map which was an unexpected gesture.
We have noticed people specially tourists can be rude and seem to think any facility in Portugal, including restaurant restrooms are public restrooms; please be mindful to order a drink or to go water if you want to use these facilities, and to thank them for allowing you to use them without ordering anything.

Really delicious. Great Couscous and roasted veggies. Fish is fantastic.

Universo is a quiet, pleasant restaurant with a hard-working staff. The fish dishes, appetizers and main course, are excellent. A nice selection of local wines. The atmosphere is European traditional—lots of wood and orderly neat tables. We’ll be returning.

Fantastic traditional Portuguese restaurant. Our server was Renato and he was incredibly friendly and accommodating. The food was great: national bife, boca negra and a delicious pineapple and port ice cream dessert. Great little spot in the heart of Vila Franca.

The food was great, fish and pork steak was very tasty, mussels were delicious, garlic bread amazing, the waiter was very polite and friendly too. We had a great time and all four of us were satisfied with our food i reccomend it too new visitors that want to try something diffrent.

Small and cozy. This was the place where I had the best cappuccino on the island after a delicious stake topped with a real egg and french fries, which you can taste was just cut. The service was very nice and people are very pleasant. And while there don't forget to try the local wine..

We came yesterday and enjoyed so much we have just come again for our second evening meal. :) Great food, Good portions and value for money, A friendly and welcoming service. Would recommend

Excellent service, great food (had the Azore Kebab, Chicken steak, Codfish with garlic and Blue Macrel) - served with a variety of vegetables, salad and side dishes. Prices were reasonable (4 adults, water, wine and meals = 57 Euros), the espresso outstanding (and cheap) We were in and out in about 90 minutes. Highly recommended!

Wonderful side of roasted, oiled potatoes and fresh fish, gorgeous burger, and a terrific tomato based fish soup. Nice family owners. Happy we found it.

Ate here with some family friends that come to the island frequently. Service was excellent, the food was very fresh and well prepared. One of the best steaks I've ever had. We'll be back before we go back home.

good service..good food..a bit of a wait..but worth it. I would rather pay alittle more for good food than cheap and bad
