Casa das Pipas / Quinta do Portal

My recent stay at Casa das Pipas, nestled in the heart of a vineyard, was nothing short of a dream come true. The location itself was a masterpiece, with endless rows of lush vineyards stretching out as far as the eye could see. It was like a paradise for wine enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

However, what truly elevated my experience was the outstanding staff at Casa das Pipas. From the moment I arrived, their genuine warmth and passion for their work were evident. They not only made me feel welcome but also shared their wealth of knowledge about winemaking, adding a delightful educational aspect to my stay.

The accommodations were equally impressive. My room was elegantly appointed, offering breathtaking views of the vineyard right from my window. The attention to detail and the cleanliness of the space were remarkable.

Casa das Pipas is more than just a place to stay; it's an immersive experience in the world of wine and hospitality. I left with not only beautiful memories but also a newfound appreciation for the art of winemaking. I can't recommend this accommodation enough – it's a true gem in the heart of wine country, made even more special by its exceptional staff. I can't wait to return for another unforgettable visit!

Lovely stay at Casa dad Pipas. Our stay was a reasonable price at a comfortable and quiet accommodation. The Casa has a self-serve wine fridge, where you can access each of the wines/ports that their winery produces, and each were very reasonably priced (available by the glass or bottle). The house also had two comfortable living rooms and a patio to sit & enjoy drinks.

Included in our stay was a complimentary tour and wine tasting for 2 (€17.50 p.p. for non-hotel guests). The tour was 20 minutes followed by delicious wines and an olive oil. Our stay also included a cold breakfast, which was fresh but light. It included fruit, small pastries, cheese, yogurt, juice & coffee (no eggs, bacon, pancakes, etc).

We also had dinner at the restaurant, which was an excellent meal. While online showed several menus, only the four course tasting menu (with optional wine pairing) was available the night we visited. For the quality, portion sizes & price, I would definitely recommend.

We had an amazing dining experience for lunch with the 4 course set menu. Delicate and intricate flavours, exceptional wine pairing and very knowledgeable and friendly service. Fantastic value for money.

Amazing place, great food and top notch service. The place is super clean and the roms are spacious. I will be back and definitely recommend for everyone!

Frankly, it is been a pleasure to stay at this hotel. The location, the quality of the hotel in all terms, the charming of the staff are remarkable.

The restaurant by the hotel has an incredible menu with dishes of first level.

Besides the taste of wines and visit to the winery is something that visitors can not skip.

Beautiful, peaceful and kind people. We really enjoyed our stay. The restaurant is spectacular (not the cheapest but worth it) the chef came out to talk to us in the end of the meal which was really nice and the food was so interesting and delicious! And the beautiful garage vine view just adds a lovely touch 👌🏼

Quinta do portal is simply AMAZING! We went there for the first time during the summer last year and we we were so happy to find their quinta because the wine we’ve had was absolutely amazing. So we came back early this year for a wine tour/tasting/restaurant with my parents and, again, we were just amazed by how good everything was, it was unfortunate tho we couldn’t stay at the hotel casa das pipas because it was booked out at the time.

So here we are in the most beautiful season, autumn, and we new we needed to go to Douro to see the beautiful colors, so we planned a weekend getaway and we were lucky enough to find a room at casa das pipas available. WHAT an experience. Soo good. The room was amazing, just simply one of the best I’ve stayed in a long time. The house feels cosy, comfortable, you don’t want to leave. You want to play chess and seat by the fireplace and chat, drink some good wine. Such an amazing experience, we’d sure be back in another season. Recommend it 10 out 10 if you want a top experience in the Douro valley.

We went for lunch in the restaurant on our Douro Valley tour and it was absolutely fantastic. The restaurant and setting are beautiful (surrounded by vineyards and sweet-smelling lavender plants) and the restaurant itself very attractive. We had a four course lunch paired with excellent wines and the food was absolutely delicious, all using fresh, local and seasonal produce, and all beautifully presented. Warm, friendly and professional service too. We absolutely loved it. Highly recommended and muito obrigado!

A wonderful and delicious set course dinner! The wines were matched perfectly and the waiters were very knowledgeable about the food and wine! A lovely evening and a must try!

I stayed for two nights whilst on a walking holiday. The accommodation is superb with stunning views over the vineyard. Breakfast nad my packed luches were excellent. And the service wonderful. It was a highlight of my stay in Portugal.
Autumn is a wonderful time the vines are glorious colours.

Chef Milton and their head winemaker, Paulo are among the best people we had the pleasure to meet while in Douro.

First, the restaurant, led by Chef Milton:
We met chef Milton by chance at Quinta de la Rosa, where he was a guest chef and made one of the most incredible vegan meals my wife has ever made. We also had lunch at Quinta de la Portal twice based on how amazing the lunch and wine pairing was. He accommodated my wife's vegan diet with incredible meals. We went to lunch on two occasions and on both occasions the meals were different and very fresh and extremely well thought out. We were beyond impressed with the class and the attitude of Chef Milton. Quinta do Portal is lucky to have him there and he is an amazing chef. We will be back!

Their head winemaker, Paulo:
To say that Paulo is an incredible person would be an understatement. We have traveled to a lot of wineries and this experience was by far and above the best experience we have ever had. Paulo in every aspect is a world class leader in everything he does. We met at Quinta de la Rosa where he paired some of his wines with the meal and we had an opportunity to talk to him, which was where we met. He offered to give us a tour of the winer after lunch the next day and he ended up spending half of his day with us showing us the winery, tasting some of the wines, learning the process he uses to make the wine and, one of our favorite parts, visiting the "library." We learned more from this visit than we have in years of tasting wine and doing different tours at wineries. Our hope is that someday we can meet again and see how the winery has evolved under his leadership and skill. I would expect to see a lot of great things to come from him. Not to mention, this was some of the best wine in all of Portugal! Get as much as you can because you won't find it in many places!

After this visit make sure to head over to Quinta do Beijo. Something about this area is truly special and has the best wineries in all of Portugal!

We had to cancel our reservation due to the recent strike and ensuing fuel shortage in Portugal. As were traveling w a young baby, we didn’t have the flexibility to wing it. though we canceled after the deadline had expired, the staff at Casa das Pipas was extraordinarily understanding and refunded us given the strange circumstances. We will absolutely be staying here during our next visit the Douro and are grateful for the staff’s consideration.

Such amazing / cozy place, full of hospitality. Unfortunately I stayed just 1 night, just planning another visit for not less than 2 night's down there. Specially thanks to Andre to make this an unforgettable wine experience.

Milton Ferreira is one of my favourite chefs in Portugal for very good reasons, as he never fails to surprise you positively in his taste combinations and plate presentations.

When in Douro, we always book our table here well in advance.

Beautiful winery and restaurant in the Douro Valley. Had an amazing meal on the terrace, visited the winery, had the tasting. It's a great place to visit, highly recommended.

Absolutely great place to stay the night and have an amazing dinner at the restaurant. Perfectly located within the vineyards and with a very authentic interior design.

Beautiful, small guesthouse on a vineyard. Rooms well appointed, breakfast buffet delicious and free wine tasting at the wine cellar.

Our favorite place in the Douro Valley! We discovered Casa das Pipas in 2017 and we loved it so much that we were back the next year with 30 of our friends to celebrate an anniversary! Everything about this charming hotel is enchanting: the property in the middle of Quinta do Portal's vineyard, the attentive staff, the beautiful swimming pool, the detailed decor, the property's cute dogs, as well as the fresh breakfast. And of course, their wine sold at the same price as at the Quinta! Plus, Milton Ferreira, their chef, prepares incredibly delicious menus to taste food and wine. An absolute must in the Douro Valley!

A very good visit is offered there for about 5€, including a taste test afterwards. The staff is super knowledgeable and multilingual.
