The Vintage House Hotel, Douro

We came to this hotel after spending a few days in Porto, so the quiet seclusion was perfect for us. It was so relaxing to be able to easily park our rental car and have the staff take complete care of us - from booking our Quinta visit, to a welcome port reception with cheese and meats, as well as additional welcome drinks, they had everything under control for us. Telmo at the library bar was such a delight to talk with, we didn’t even realize we kept him past closing time!

During our stay, we hardly saw other people. It was just what we needed to recharge before we head back to the busy city of Porto. It started getting busier on our check out day as they are doing renovations to some of the rooms. But I loved our stay here. The art was a really really nice touch. We spent hours looking at all of it.

It is a vintage, classic, traditional hotel not a modern one. The rooms and spaces are beautifully decorated respecting the hotel's name, the bathrooms have adorable tile decorations, the terrace has lovely vibes with their bushes, vines and paths. Views from the rooms and restaurants are stunning and the location is perfect for a morning stroll by the river. It is so quiet and peaceful! It is a pity we went in winter and would not dare use the pool. All the team members were polite and helpful. The breakfast was perfect!

I have only three points for improvement. First, for dinner we had some steak and potatoes. While half of the group had very salty potatoes, the other half had theirs "flavourless". We think it was just a matter of bad luck and salting twice but it did surprise us and we had to remove the potato skins to be able to eat.
Second, although there weren't couples in our group we all got double beds instead of twins so we had to share the beds. I don't know if twins weren't available at the moment or not at all, and if the person making the reservation knew in advance that we were getting doubles.
Third, I always take my own shampoo and conditioner when I travel. However, I didn't this time and the hotel only offered shampoo and body wash. This was a bit strange as I've never seen this missing among hotel toiletries.

The place was very clean, nicely decorated, well located and with a beautiful view to the Douro.
The staff was friendly, drinks were good and breakfast was really good.
I can definitely recommend staying here on a visit to Pinhão!

They call it the Vintage house for a reason. So if you're looking for modern, this may not be for you. Beautiful stay. Beds and pillows - so comfortable (after coming from a hotel in Porto that was like sleeping on plywood). Views of the river from our terrace were stunning. The grounds are so well kept. Great pool. The breakfast is plentiful. Our dinner outside was my favourite. Looking on the Douro river with grape (i think) vines draping down around you like a hug. The dinner and service were exceptional and creative. Everything on the expensive side so it may not be for all but I felt fortunate to have been able to stay here. Not a busy town by any means but we had a car which made things much easier to get around. I've added a photo of our view from our balcony.

An amazing property in the Douro Valley. I would rate this hotel amongst the best in Portugal. Service was excellent , dinner at the restaurant top class and rooms wonderful - all overlooking the Douro river.

We hosted our wedding at Vintage House and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The staff was incredibly hospitable and went above and beyond all of our expectations. The rooms were lovely with amazing views of the river, and the food was absolutely delicious. They facilitated a significant amount of the planning/ work because we were planning from overseas, and we are so grateful. Thank you to the entire staff and team for making our wedding such a magical event!

A lovely, old school hotel in the middle of Douro. The resort is quite large and the dining options are good. The rooms are beautiful and have amazing river views with lovely balconies. The staff were friendly. I would recommend having a car if you’re going to stay here. While it’s close to the train station, the town of Pinhão is limited and some of the wineries are a bit of a drive away.

Beautiful hotel! Views are spectacular.. rooms are comfortable and gorgeous. Lots of amenities... great place to stay after visiting the wineries in Douro valley.

Excellent small hotel with impeccable service throughout the property. Restaurant service for dinner was outstanding with a team of thoughtful, knowledgeable and personable servers (Jose was exceptional), food was inventive and delicious. Pool lovely, with gorgeous gardens. So convenient to visit quintas and other Douro valley delights! So glad we spent a couple days here - relaxed and felt pampered.

Amazing, amazing place. Worth every penny. We could only afford to do one night here on our honeymoon, but it was truly perfect in every way and honestly so worth the price. Breakfast buffet was huge with everything you could want, restaurant is delicious, library bar is stunning with 2 free drinks per person, full use of the gorgeous riverside pool, incredibly kind staff in every department, and no snobby attitudes whatsoever. If you’re considering it but hesitant, I would say definitely go for it - such a special place we will remember forever!!

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. The location and views can't be beat. The staff were very welcoming and great with service, helping us to book restaurants and events. They also had great recommendations. Would definitely recommend to anyone staying in the Douro Valley.

Beautiful location which makes up for simple rooms in need of a little upgrade. Lovely grounds and a nice small pool. Breakfast ok but nothing special. But somehow this ends up being a lovely place being right on the river at the edge of Pinhao....

Love the hotel stay in early Nov….such good views…staff were helpful to arrange taxi to olive museum and temporarily fix my broken spec as I needed it to drive back to Porto Airport. Love the excellent service at breakfast time with splendid spread.
The gardens landscaping were well maintained…beautiful Al fresco…cruise boats nearby…
Improvement areas would be ready help to bring luggage to hotel room & preferred ramp at front of hotel porch…am a small-build so it did take some effort to bring luggage up.

Very luxurious hotel with beautiful rooms and common areas. The Garden and pool area were very inviting, even though the weather did not cooperate.
Perched on the bank of the Douro River, it offers excellent access to the town. Be prepared for some exertion when walking around.

We had a lovely stay at The Vintage House hotel . This hotel was perfect for my taste - old , great riverside views and full of charm !

Understated Elegance

As soon as you step off the train in Pinhão you sense you are in a special place. Then, with a five minute walk from the train station, you arrive at Vintage House.

This residence, on the Douro River, is a remarkable oasis for relaxation. Its location is perfect for a walk into town, a walk along the Douro River or a walk to Croft Cellars (Fladgate Partnership) for a sampling of Port Wines especially the Tawny Ports and Pink Port. Or, you can just sit in the garden area and totally relax in the quiet ambiance.

Within Vintage House the room we had was quiet, clean and comfortable making us feel at home. We were fortunate to be able to have our room overlook the Douro River and garden.

The staff is an extraordinary asset and exceeds expectations. Everyone is friendly and always ready to assist you. It is as though you are a guest in their home. An example of this extraordinary staff is Marcos Barros. He is the type of person every organization in hospitality needs to interact with guests. He is the one who highlights the welcoming nature and professionalism of the entire Vintage House staff.

We’ve just spent 4 days with our two teenage daughters in this outstanding Hotel ,where the staff hospitality and the gorgeous facilities made our stay unforgettable. We’ll be back in the future for sure.

An old British establishment ? Full of old charms, mostly staffed with English speaking staff. Limited all day menu by the pool & in the bar is quite nice, yet to dine at the main restaurant as it’s fully booked most of high season. Room price is high in high season (double that of off season), would like to come back in off season.

Beautifully located close to the river, with excellent rooms. Extremely high service and the restaurant and the bar serves very good food and drinks.

Excellent accommodations and beautiful views of the river. Wonderful!
