Restaurante Monte Verde

All I can say is that the food was really good. We had been looking to eat here for a few days, and finally decided to go tonight. The grilled sea bream was absolutely delicious, and so was the grilled squid. Combined with a bottle of local wine, I can only give them five stars!

Very friendly and helpful staff— seemed family owned— who provided us with excellent local wine and AMAZING sea food. Very fresh fish. We did a fish platter for two, which came with salad, three types of fish, potatoes, yams, sweet potatoes, tomato rice and complimentary bread with cheese. The fish was truly delicious and well cooked and the rest of the sides had really good flavor (not like American “afterthought” sides). They also had great views of the ocean as this restaurant sat on the second floor of what seemed to also be a small fish market.

We initially sat down for only a drink at cafe Monte Verde when the chef literally hand fed us his tuna steak that he was eating (because we might have been eyeing it)
Naturally we stayed for dinner! The service was impeccable and all the staff super friendly and fun(our waiter invited us into the kitchen to choose which fish we would like and all the dishes he recommended to us were absolutely scrumptious). All this plus the restaurant has a beautiful view of the ocean and I even ended up taking a picture with the chef to round off the evening!

If you love fishes and seafoods highly recommend there, I was late there for lunch the owner very friendly let me in, waiter professional, friendly 😃👍👍 I had different types of fishes, so happy to my stomach, delicious 😋 near by the beach ❗

If you love proper fresh fish this is the place for you! A simple menu consisting solely of what's been caught that day. We shared a mixed fish grill and it was the freshest fish I've ever had. A bargain with a bottle of local wine and fresh local cheese and bread thrown in to start.
Do note fish is the only thing on the menu so won't be a good place for vegetarians or fussy eaters!

I think the best tuna I've ever had. While generally quite predictable and boring, I was taken by surprise here. Shrimps were absolutely fantastic as well, the sauce was super tasty.

This restaurant was a seafood journey. Fresh Cheeses, appetizers, fish soup and the Prato Principales will make you sleep at night like a fish. Everything was splendid. Be careful, if you don't tell them exactly how many dishes you want, they will choose for you, and if you don't have a big appetite take it home with you.

We had a great experience, the fish was very fresh and prepared perfectly (we can particularly recommend the charcoal grilled fish), and even the side dishes were perfect. The waiters were very friendly and helpful with an overall nice atmosphere in the restaurant. Tipp for tourists: A) the fresh cheese and chili sauce as starter is very tasty, just remember that it will be charged to your bill as is common in many local restaurants, B) if you are put off by fish heads, fishbones and other parts on your plate, you should order the filets (we actually really appreciated that the whole fish is served here)

This is a very good place to eat, the food was fantastic and the service was amazing.
Its very kid friendly if your child likes fish,
but it has 2 problems: it took a while to get our food, 30 minutes I think 🤔 And there is no french fries. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Best shrimps we've had on the island. More on the expensive side of things but worth it.

Absolutely fantastic. We were doing the Janela do Inferno walk and getting hungry around 1:30 and I looked up restaurants that were still open for lunch. This place closed at 3 but when we called said no problem if we get there at 2. We were late but they were very sweet, recommended dishes and a lovely alvarinho wine and everything was delicious! Fried boneless fillets for kids were phenomenal and the grilled mixed fish excellent. First time trying the local horseshoe mackerel and they were fantastic. Lovely relaxed meal as a reward for a gorgeous hike.

Exceptionally good fish dishes and excellent staff who made recommendations based on our request for a light lunch. Fitted the bill perfectly and the octopus salad starter was a delight. Its a short walk from the heart of the town but definitely worth the trip

Loved it. Doesn't look like much from the outside but it's a very authentic fish restaurant. We had such a variety of fish, salads and vegetables. Great friendly service too. Highly recommended.

Freshly caught fish grilled to the second. Special fish species that only exist in the sea around the Azores with restrained side dishes (mild). The chef knows his trade, as does the service. Advice on the choice of wine, fast, discreet and attentive. Reasonably priced, casual and comfortable atmosphere. I compared the restaurant to El Pescador, Caloura (Aqua de Pau) and a few other and made several visits. Because I am fishing myself, you can follow my recommandation.
If you dont find the entrance, ask in the bar next door.
