A very enjoyable lunch.., and excellent value. Very well cooked fish. Attentive helpful service. We enjoyed it immensely. We will try and return. And we did return., and had another enjoyable meal. And have upgraded our review from 4 to 5 stars

Great restaurant offering a good choice of Portuguese dishes at a reasonable price for the location. Large, roomy restaurant with attentive and helpful staff. We popped in for lunch and chose the dish of the day for 10€ and a half litre of house wine at a very reasonable 5€. Our food was lovely and we will definitely return.

We ate here three times during our 6 night stay in Tavira as we found it good value, down to earth and not catering for tourists.
There is no service at the few outdoor tables. Inside it is spacious and cool. Two or three men serve out front and they don't seem to take bookings. They wave people in who wait to be seated and once all the tables are taken don't hurry you to leave.
There are 3/4 specials every day velcroed to the menu. We tended to choose from these. The usual covers are available but not put down automatically.
Particularly good was the stuffed squid, boar stew, monk fish rice and pig cheeks.
The fish dishes were always well cooked and the meat tender.
Each visit we had a litre of house red, coffees and a side salad to go with the main courses.
The bill was always around 30 euros for the two of us.

Travelling from Cadiz to Portugal i waters to search for a place to eat . I like to eat in small villages so we can really experience locals food . I came across to casa Simao on the web and as soon as I read the reviews and saw the photos o knew we were going to have a treat !
I had the dish of the day ( rice with monkfish )
We also had lamb shops ( borrego ) and also grilled chicken !
I must say that the food was absolutely delicious and fresh , the borrego was so delicate that was melting in the mouth .
My rice was very tasty and fresh and the chicken was barbecued and was amazing !
We had the house wine and what can I say ? Delicious!!!!!!!
Desert was a local homemade cream layered with custard( I will leave for you to discover the details yourselves ;)
The staff is very friendly !
Don’t leave to get there late as we realised that tables at night service gets filled very weekly and I am sure you don’t want to be left out !

Service was

This is a really nice place. We found it by following the many stars and what should I say - it‘s all worth it! Very friendly and heartful team, nice location right at the river… and I tell you what: the meals are grandios compositions, balanced well - just props to the chef here! We already stay here the second time this week, can really recommend!

The receptionist at the hotel recommended us this Portuguese restaurant which was top-notch. Sea bass, sardines, sardines pate, vegs soup, a portion of alfarroba cake 1litre house red wine was 38€. Excellent service and waiter was funny and helpful at all times. Delicious food. Well located next to the main bridge in Tavira. Make sure you arrive before 8pm to get a table for dinner.

Will definitely be going back. Large group but they took great care of us. Lovely portion size, & the skewers are a work of art. The desserts were even delicious & I haven't found many I like (I'm a dessert snob, sorry not sorry.) Everyone at our table seemed pleased.

I had a great meal at Casa Simão. It's great value with great flavors and fast service. I had the pan fried tuna steak with onion sauce. Only 7 Euros for the dish of the day. I really liked it and I recommend coming here.

We had our dinner this afternoon here and the experience was excellent.

Pros:
1. Entrance accessible for wheelchair.
2. Parking accessible for wheelchair nearby if you are lucky to get.
3. Free parking too if you get lucky to find a spot.
4. They offer dine-in and take-away food. No delivery food offers.
5. The price of the food is quite cheap. Great value of money.
6. They sell traditional Portuguese food.
We ordered arroz tamboril €8 and Grilled chicken €7.50.
The monkfish rice is good with some prawns.
The grilled chicken is tasty and delicious.
7. If you like spicy, you must try their chili's sauce named chiliboy. It is the best piri-piri for me.
8. Restroom is free.
9. Free wifi inside the restaurant.
10. They accept payment in cash.
11. They have indoor and outdoor seating.
12. You must wear mask before entering.
13. The location is near the bridge of Tavira.
14. The staffs are quite friendly and nice during our visit.

Cons:
1. The soup is not good.
2. The queue is too long. You must come earlier to get a table.
The restaurant could maximize the place better. I think they can have more table inside not to send some potential customers away.
3. The quantity is not much, but it is enough to make your tummy happy.

Best of luck!!!

Great to find this place which seems to cater more for locals than tourists. Lovely food, great service and has the added benefit of being inexpensive!
We went for the daily specials - which will generally not be found in other restaurants - highly recommended

Very nice traditional Portuguese restaurant, wide range of meat/fish options on the menu. Great selection of wine and you can handpick one of their dessert from the counter after your meal. Staff are very helpful too.

Wow! This place was filled with locals and visitors. Food was excellent and the Sevice was outstanding! Espresso was super hot and Perfect!
We initially sat down in a river view patio and with the volume they just forgot about us. After 15 minutes, we just left our seats and found this amazing gem. Enjoy!

time travel and good food, it's possible, no pretences but excellent food, good wines, not extravagant, but quality, I enjoyed even the factory paté made of sardinas with again excellent bread, they have daily dishes priced at 7 euros, I had a cataplana of porc with almejas, it was top notch, this restaurant is one of those rare gems you once in a while stumble on

I have been eating at this restaurant for more than 10 years and it remains one of my favourite restaurants in Tavira. The cuisine is traditional Portuguese and if you like grilled meat or fish served simply but well cooked and deliciously tasty then this is the restaurant for you. The restaurant is run by a family and is frequented by local and visiting Portuguese which is a good recommendation. Prices are unbelievably good and in terms of value for money will be difficult to find anything better in Tavira. For great value try the dish of the day for around 7 euros. Wine prices are very reasonable as well.

We each had traditional Portuguese dishes we’d never tried before. I had pork with potatoes, olives and pickle. The wife had pork and prawns in a tomato served. Both dishes served with a little coriander. Really delicious! Not a fancy place - just good quality food at very reasonable prices.

My favourite restaurant in Tavira, traditional Portuguese, I always have one of the 3 daily specials and a half litre carafe of house wine, good hearty meal at an excellent price, never disappointed. Service is very fast if you have the specials. You can have a la carte and bottles of wine if you wish.

This is a typical local Portuguese restaurant with great food that is well prepared at a good price. I visited this pace on 2 occasions when I was in Tavira & it was excellent. Don’t pass it by as it is well worth a visit.
