Off the beaten path and rather nondescript, Cantinho Do Cais has captured the Island in their Fish Soup. Whatever you do, order it with the orange. 👌👌👌. We also had the 1/2 filet meal which was also fantastic.

great fish soup and delicious stew. can't miss the stew. also the rest of the fish is highly recommended.
service is slow and the space limited to few tables. give them a call on the way so you can make sure there is no long waiting queue for you

It was an incredible meal and very traditional! We went for lunch and ate the Octopus (by their recommendation) and the fish soup… and it was exquisit! 25 euros 2 people 🥰

This is the True Sao Miguel food that I have loved. Sadly you must now hunt for good food on the island as tourism has destroyed the ability to eat well. This place still has the wife cooking, the husband running around and the kids serving. Fish was super fresh and tasty, hone made soup was a killer and non left. 3 people, 4 beers, 3 soups and a tray of chhicharros all for €45.

For a tourist an amazing 'local' experience with great food on the front porch looking out over the interior mountains. We had fish soup, fish fillets and the fish stew. Each was unique and delicious (just watch the bones) and I would highly recommend visiting if you are in the area.

We agree with the others that the fish stew is excellent and should not be missed ! We also were impressed by the fava bean appetizer. The staff was friendly and indulgent of non-Portuguese speaking patrons like us. Reservations are needed as it is popular with locals. Cantinho do Cais is on the list of restaurants we will visit again when we return because the quality of the food made it one of our most memorable meals. Obrigado !

Great family restaurant with local food on board. Fish soup is brilliant. 3 euro for big bowl of soup. Wow. Shramps, abrotea fish and and veja fish totally made our group glad. Totally recommended place

This place was incredible - perfect post-hike meal, amazing view, authentic, and delicious. Start with the grilled shrimp!

The best fish stew (not soup) I've had so far. And they serve it for you in a huge pot, definitely enough for 2. You have to wait like 20-30-40 mins for it to be ready depending on how busy it is BUT totally worth it.

AMAZING Molho Peixe (fish stew). I’m really surprised this place does not have a rating of at least 4.9! We visited it because our friend told us, 'I had the best fish stew in my life. In fact, I had the best dish in my life!' And we can totally agree with this statement! We were amazed by the flavors the dish offered, most of which were unknown to us (and it’s so rare these days when you have access to all existing cuisines). Truly an amazing experience!

Their fish stew was worth driving here. It is utterly fantastic. Not sure how they were able to pack so much flavor into that stock. You'll need extra brad to use it to clean your bowl

5 stars for the fish soup WOW it was so comforting and delicious after a long day of traveling and exploring the island. Service was great and the other things we ordered were just ok (burger and chicken steak) go there and get the soup you won’t regret it!

Special thanks for the very knowledgeable young lady serving, excellent skills and even though I don't speak Portuguese she had the English under control.
So far the best seafood I've had on the islands, the stew was fabulous with a dominant but pleasant savoury accent, local cheese is creamy and melts in your mouth balancing the bread's crispness and the list goes on...

Really nice place. They have an awesome “Bife”, fish and octopus. Be sure to come here and have lunch or dinner before it gets more known. The service is excellent and the prices are reasonable, couldn’t ask for more.

And they have the best queijada os the island!

A very good home cooked meal. I got the fish stew. I also got an order to go😋. Service was very good and attentive! I ordered bread as an appetizer and it was perfect! Soft inside and a little crunchy on the outside. There is parking directly in front of the restaurant. About 5 or 6 spots. I didn't look to see if there was additional parking on the side. I made a reservation for 5 pm which is early for dinner. There was one other couple dining at the time. So there was availability at this time. Not sure if this happens everyday. My hotel recommended that I make a reservation. If you are looking for a place with traditional Portuguese food this is it. It's about a 7 minutes drive from Miradoura de Santa Iria.

Molho de pixie (fish stew - house specialty) is the most traditional and delicious food experience we’ve had so far. Cozy family restaurant tucked away location is a true gem. Quick service and the food came out quickly as well, was nervous reading reviews after we sat as we’re eager to continue exploring. Absolutely worth a stop.

We drove to the north hidden village of São Bras to try what Azorians call the best Guisado de Peixe (Fish Stew). The restaurant is a retrofitted townhouse, the kitchen looks very much like that of my grandmother's and the staff is friendly.
They don't accept credit cards however their stew was on of the best meals we had on the island and certainly the best Fish Stew we've ever tried.
This is a great restaurant for families, the stew serves 2, 3 or 4 people and fills you up great on a foggy chilled night.
Three cups of white wine + fish stew for two was €34.50

Excellent restaurant. We had the fish soup for two. It was incredible. Even the 3€ appetizer fish soup on our first visit was delicious. Small place with beautiful mountain views.

Favas were delicious. Could have had that for dinner. Fish soup very good and the mixed fish house special. Service very friendly. Very authentic Portuguese restaurant. Everything was great other than the barking dog, but that is so common anywhere that is more rural on the island.

Definitely a recommendation! Amazing food - you should try the specialty of the house, the Molho Peixe. It's a fish stew with various types of fresh fish and vegetables. They served a big portion for 15€ p.p. Drinks have very good prices (1,50€ for a glass of wine). They have a big terrace with some tables to eat outside.
