ZHI WOEI FRUITS SUPPLY

This is one of the biggest fruits stores in Pulau Tikus, started from a stall in front of Magnum Number Forecast to a shop later on. The fruits are plenty and fresh and price is reasonable. For the traveller, there are plenty of cut fruits packed in nice plastic boxes, ready to be consumed.

Picked up a papaya for RM4/kg, a standard market price. The fruit was not the HK hybrid so did not taste as sweet. The side alley is home to a Chinese dessert vendor who finds it justifiable to raise prices during MCO. She was quite indignant when told off by her old pensioner customer for her 30 sen increase or 17 percent inflation. Both her black glutinous rice with santan and gandum (wheat) desserts were RM2 each. They both lacked depth and taste, so the watery desserts were overpriced.
Walk to the end of the street near the market and kitchenware shop is Amy's pineapple stall in the morning, presenting freshly cut petite pineapples from Phuket, 3 for RM12 or 1 medium for RM5.
COVID-19 struck market leaves street deserted.

Insist on RM4.00 /kg for local papaya and back down with the opportunistic foreign pedlar as the boss is seldom around. Fruits are usually over ripe so should be discounted.

Shop has foreign workers working there that quote a higher price than the boss. When challenged on the price, the worker agreed on the lower price but sneakily still charged the inflated price for full payment. We would have paid more had we not asked for a breakdown of all fruits that we wanted to buy. Very dishonest!
