Sunset Valley Holiday Houses

I came to Langkawi to explore the island. But it did not happen. Because I was spending my entire 3 days just staying in at this resort. That's how lovely this accommodation is. I took the gate house, which was perfect for two. The resort is located in a valley, where you have a beautiful view of a large paddy field. I had a great time soaking sunset and stargazing. The people are great and friendly. You can get instant noodles, homemade bread (and other snacks) and wine here, so you don't need to head out for supplies.

If you like authentic and unique gems, here you will be in the right one. You can stay at real Malay-style houses in a calm with a beautiful swimming pool. The owners are super lovely and helpful and they live also there, but almost invisible. It would be better to have a rental car, but Grab has worked also fine.

Back for a third time to this gem in Langkawi. Almost too good to let others in on the secret. Impeccably managed by a German/Australian couple - 6 traditional houses around a central swimming pool surrounded by rice paddies. Field house is our favorite, but all are excellent.

Stayed in the Farmer's House. Woke up to breath-taking view of paddy fields and mountains. Perfect for group and family. It's cozy, aesthetic and very well maintained. Beautifully furnished with high quality wooden furnitures. Common area with cooking and cleaning facilities, perfect for family gatherings. Big bath rooms and well ventilated. Equipped with proper electronics, the fridge looks like as if its new! Especially loved the balcony - perfect for a 'me time' cuppa ☕

The enviroment is clean and air is fresh, no need for AC at all.

There is a lovely pool with perfect sunset view, overlooking the green paddy fields.

The location is away from hustle bustle of cenang... Nice quiet location away from all the noise. I like it. Its an experience living in one of the traditional houses. Nice architecture. Cleaner than many other hotels. Pool is superb. Service is good. Massage was 8/10, so that's good. Owner is wonderful expat couple. All in, had an enjoyable stay.

The ambience of the place truly delivers the experience of living in a very local Malay village from the views, right down to the details of each villa. Each villa is a very carefully restored village house from hundreds of years ago. Amenities and supporting facilities are all modern and world class, run by a lovely international couple with very wide experience of what such an experience should be.

Amazing place. Originally we booked 4 nights but extended to 6 at the end because we loved it so much. It’s beautiful, peaceful and safe. The houses are arranged and equipped well. We also rented the scooter twice to explore the island. The other days we stayed at sunset valley and enjoyed the pool, our Paddy house and took a nice walk in the rice fields. Gudrun and David are amazing hosts. They are kind, open minded and very caring. Thanks a lot for your special service! We will be back 😉

This place is amazing. It is so quiet and peaceful nestled in between the mountain ranges on a large plane next to some rice paddies. The bungalows were incredible and each one unique.

Gudrun and Rose were so helpful and overall delightfully friendly and accommodating. Gudrun helped us with a rental car and tips on the good spots on the island.

If you don't want to be herded like cattle on the main strips and want an experience that isn't like every other south-east Asian tourist hub then this place is for you.

Very lovely place situated next to the padi fields. The kampung styled homes/rooms are nicely decorated with all necessities provided.

This place is owned and also managed by a couple, David and Gudrun and they have done a magnificent job to the place.

Location is about 20 minutes from Kuah town and 20 minutes from Chenang. Very convenient.

Highly recommend this place if you like to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and want to enjoy the serenity of nature and peacefulness.

Very tradisional Malay old house , the view is outstanding and have a large paddy fields . The owner Mr David And Madam Gudrun is very humble , friendly ,the place is very relaxing like your staying at your hometown . The pool is cleaned and can be used until 10 pm . By far this is the best vacation .

This is a gem ecoturism stay in Langkawi😍 . Wonderful Malay self contained holiday houses with a lovely pool overlooking the paddy fields. Totally recommended for couple or big groups if you need a break from the city. This is the perfect place! 😁👌

Amazing place. Spent a week with family including kids aged,11 and 12. Stayed in Forest House: 2 bedroom,1 bath, plus a kitchen and lovely deck. ( WiFi is also free) The place is so relaxing with amazing views across the rice paddys with the mountains all around. The pool is just the right size that the kids spent hours playing in it. It is near the middle of the island so most of the beaches and other sites are no more than 20 minutes away. I would highly recommend a rental car so you can easily get around. They do not have a restaurant but there are so many good ones to choose from not far away if you have a car. They do a lovely breakfast for a little extra which is really nice way to start the day. They also provide bath and pool towels. The owners are so lovely and helpful. They have lots of great local advice on what to see and do as well as where to eat. they will also arrange any trips for you and most trips will pick you up. One of the most relaxing and enjoyable places we have ever stayed!

Gudrun the owner, is a very kind and friendly host. She welcomed and gave us an early check-in on prior intimation. We had a small tour of the property and she had some suggestions for us to go around in Langkawi. There are many houses in the property and we chose the Field house(next to paddy fields). All the houses are traditional Malay style old houses and we loved them. Ours is aged 80 years.

They serve breakfast on prior intimation and its RM 19.50 per person. We loved the small shop they had for some tidbits and quick utilities. Though we were always retiring on house deck looking at the green fields and enjoying the sunset, the best part of the property was the pool. It is always open and the lights are on till 11.30 PM.

Air condition is an extra charge but we never needed as the temperatures were very ambient. The Field house has a bath tub and the reason we chose was it. We were provided with an electric kettle, toaster, stove, some cutlery and utensils. The property is very clean and they expect you to keep it the same.

Langkawi as such is a small island and the road commute is good. To go to some popular restaurants from the property it took 10-20 mins. We met David while we were leaving and exchanged some warm conversations.

Overall the stay made our trip a memorable one and we highly recommend the property.

We stayed at Bunga Raya villa in at sunset valley for 8 days and everything was absolutely perfect. We were so impressed by the high quality built and the thought that went to every single detail.

The hosts were lovely and very accommodating to our request.

Very nice relaxing place. You get the serenity of the natures but you are also not far away from the city or the airport. The host were friendly and prompt. Its a rare find to catch a grab in this area so i suggest in hiring a car. In case of emergency the host will have taxi service available :)

If you heard of the Mahsuri legend, you might have unknowningly passed by Sunset Valley on your way to the tomb. It is located within vicinity of Ulu Melaka, towards Makam Mahsuri, just a narrow turn to the right.

Sunset Valley is perfect for those seeking out-of-city retreat, catering specially for those who love...

• Birds - SV hosts a variety of avians (loud ones, long tailed ones, colorful ones). One can easily spot a few different species in any given hour.

• Serenity - Smacked at the edge of a large paddy field, bordered by one of Langkawi's tallest mountains, one can be certain to unwind to a clear view of Langkawi's finest paddy field sunrise and sunset, right on his balcony.

• Natural Breeze - When it rains, get to the balcony for a guaranteed view of droplets trickling from the attap roof, paired with heavenly cold breeze.

• Decent service - Clean room, clean towel, and a pair of swim towels are provided upon arrival. Great hosts very friendly, and diligent housekeeping.

Some of the amenities provided are parking, wifi, air-condition (when it gets too hot and humid), as well as a clean swimming pool. Do take note that no toothbrushes or toothpastes supplied, but there is a sundry shop located just below the main house for late night snacking.

Highly suggest reading the Guest Guide for all Yes and No's during the stay there.

The only set back would probably be getting back to the lodging at night, as unlit street may cause unfamiliar drivers to miss the narrow turn almost all the time.

Gorgeous and wonderful stay at Sunset Valley Holiday Houses. David and Gudrun were incredibly gracious and lovely hosts as well as Rose who helped in getting oriented and settled. Love the amenities and peaceful setting with great access to all parts of Langkawi. Highly recommend!

Best special stay in the island of Langkawi. Beautiful well maintained malays traditional house, with a fully fitted kitchenette and other modern facilities. Close to local village ( including few restaurants). About 15 minutes driving from the beach of Pantai Chenang. Very good host. Highly reccomended.

I lived here for 3 months and loved it. Gudrun and David made this place a diamond for this island. Amazing house, most beautiful location. For a real Langkawi feeling as the houses are a truly authentic.

A big shout out to Gudrun and David for hosting us in their beautiful home, Sunset Valley. Very gracious hosts, always checking in on us and making sure we had everything we needed. Happy to have met them (and their 3 dogs and 3 cats) and get acquainted.

We spent 1 month in The Garden House at Sunset Valley and I think we couldn’t have picked better. Location is very central - 15 minutes drive to Chenang, 15 mins to Kuah, 15 mins to Tj Rhu - yet you feel like you’re quite away from everything. The land is serene, you have a great view of sunset over the paddy fields and you can listen to birdsong all day long. We loved the pool verandah - it is very well equipped, you have all you need for a pool side bbq, including a fridge to keep your beers cold and a built-in bluetooth speaker system. The house itself was perfect for us, an open-concept restored old kampung house, with a fully equipped kitchen allowing us to prepare our own meals, and with a big verandah where you can work or just sit and enjoy the space.

I definitely recommend this place for anyone seeking a private, chilled, spacious location. I think it’s great for single families as well as bigger groups since they have a few houses to choose from.

Thank you Gudrun and David (and Catmandu) for making us feel so at home. It was hard to leave but we know we’ll be back.
