Peaceful place where you can think about spiritual things. Inside, you'll find a big statue called the Reclining Buddha. The temple is very clean, which helps make it a nice place to feel connected to something bigger than yourself.

Very impressive Thai Buddhist temple. The reclining Buddha statue is massive, but what really drew me to it was the serene face as it fills you with calm and peace. The sculptor got it just right. There are other statues as well and memorials of devotees who have passed. The giant stupa on the grounds is also worth a look.
We were there on a rather crowded day as the Burmese temple across the street had an event going on. The spillover of young devotees into the Thai precinct added some noise and colour, as well as photo clicking opportunities. A must see in culturally rich Penang.

Wat Chayamangkalaram in Penang is a serene oasis of Thai Buddhist architecture.

The temple's vibrant colors and ornate details create a peaceful atmosphere.

The highlight is the impressive Reclining Buddha, stretching gracefully along the temple hall.

Captured the tranquility of this sacred space and shared it on Google Maps for others to appreciate.

We visited this peaceful yet impressive Buddhist temple that houses a large reclining Buddha. The image is so serene and peaceful. The floor tiles with lotus flowers are wonderful. Besides Buddha, there are also images of Guan Yin and Phra Phrom. This is a wonderful place for some peace and prayer.

**Reclining Buddha Temple (Wat Chayamangkalaram)**: A Tranquil Gem in Penang

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

As a traveler exploring the vibrant streets of Penang, I stumbled upon the **Reclining Buddha Temple**, locally known as the **Sleeping Buddha**. Nestled along **Burma Road** in **Georgetown**, this Thai-style temple is a captivating blend of spirituality, history, and architectural marvels.

### The Golden Serenity

The temple's centerpiece is the awe-inspiring **gold-plated reclining Buddha**, stretching an impressive **33 meters**. As I stood before this serene figure, I felt a sense of peace and detachment—the very essence of the historical Buddha at his final moments. The name **Pra Buddhachaiya Mongkul** resonates with tranquility, inviting visitors to reflect on life's impermanence.

### A Journey Within

Before entering, I paused to admire the two guardian statues flanking the temple entrance. Their watchful eyes seemed to protect the sacred space. Remember to remove your shoes—a sign of respect—as you step onto the cool marble floor. Inside, niches hold the ashes of devoted souls, a poignant reminder of impermanence and the cycle of life.

### Beyond the Buddha

Venturing further, I discovered a hidden gem: a **small Thai village** nestled behind the temple. Here, traditional wooden houses and fragrant incense create an intimate atmosphere. Just beyond lies the **Thai cemetery**, where generations rest in eternal peace. It's a place to honor ancestors and connect with the temple's rich heritage.

### Practical Tips

- **Transport**: Hop on the **Rapid Penang Bus 101** from Georgetown. The route takes you past iconic landmarks, including the bustling **Jalan Burma**. The temple awaits on your right, a beacon of serenity.
- **Other Buses**: Buses **10**, **103**, and **104** also stop nearby, making access convenient.
- **Taxi Option**: If you prefer a direct ride, hail a cab from anywhere in Penang. The journey to the Reclining Buddha Temple should cost around **RM40** (negotiable).

### Final Thoughts

The **Reclining Buddha Temple** isn't just a tourist spot; it's a sanctuary where history, spirituality, and community converge. Whether you seek solace, cultural insights, or simply a moment of quiet contemplation, this temple invites you to experience Penang's soul.

Remember to capture the golden hues, breathe in the incense-laden air, and let the Sleeping Buddha's serenity envelop you. 🙏✨

It's a big temple and a good place to visit if you are a tourist.

I saw some bike tours visiting this place so it's a popular destination in Penang.

Very clean and well maintained temple. You buy and light candles for blessing ranging from RM5 to RM60 outside at four faces Buddha or inside at reclining Buddha. Joss sticks are RM2 per set. Entrance is free.

Parking: Try the parking space inside the temple, if not you can park on the road side and walk to the temple.

Entrance fee/Tickets: None.

Temple premises: Neat, calm and clean, overall very peaceful place with good positive vibes.
The Sleeping budha statue size is amazing, it was bigger than I imagined, very good maintenance and friendly staff.

All religion/race are welcomed and I didn't notice any restrictions to dress code, but I suggest visitors to be respectful and wear decent clothes.

This is a beautiful temple. One of the nicest displays are the paintings of the history of the Buddha. It was very nice and helpful in educating a non- Buddhist about the religion and it's rich history.

Always a great spot to unwind and regain some calm after long weeks. Come on a weekday, the place is crowded usually on weekends and public holidays. I always like to tell my fortune there at the machine. Each reading is only 50 cents.

There are stalls out front that sell souvenirs and prayer bracelets. They have some pretty sturdy items - bought a prayer bracelet about half a year ago and it's still as good as new. This visit got me a cute GYM key chain.

If you're taking public transport, there is a bus stop nearby. Look for RapidPenang lines with the stop Sleeping Buddha and it should stop you within 200m of the place.

Such a beautiful Thai temple❤ This is my second visit. You can try your luck turning the luck machine inside the temple. Don't forget to try the delicious and cooling coconut ice-cream and milkshake being sold right at the entrance of the place, it's perfect, especially on a hot weather👌🏻 The only downside is it's difficult to find a parking space, there's a rm200 fine if you park at space without the "drawn box line" area
