Ruas Records Store

A hidden (no signage) record store in the heart of Georgetown, a very community-centred one. The venue for shows upstairs got a damn good lighting and sound setup sia 👍🏼 The food and coffee is worth mentioning here, so damn good and the price??? Reasonable af. Came back to KL and all I think about is the secret menu... thats how good the food was. Worth a visit!

As you stroll down quiet Jalan Pintal Tali from Chulia Street at night, you couldn't help but to notice a brightly lit establishment nestled among dark pre-war shophouses - stood out from the rows. There's an allure to this place that will drag you towards to check out what's in store and oh boy, you definitely won't get disappointed if you happen to appreciate obscured vinyls, CDs and cassettes. One might find some hidden gems among the collection & I found one; my personal favourite though that most people thought is already obsolete elsewhere.

Definitely will come back to secure that one.

Good place to chill and hunt for cassettes and vinyls

Awesome punk record store/café/event space. The staff are great and more than happy to talk music/offer some local recommendations. The food is also delicious (try the fried chicken sandwich).

Owners are awesome hobbyists. Lots of local punk and metal music. Found a true vinyl gem that the owner wasn't even aware of. If collecting records is your hobby, you'd enjoy talking to the owners and if you're lucky, they'll show you their personal collection. We visited Penang from KL and went out of our way to visit this shop.

Awesome record store + cafe. Found a lot of great modern/indie CD's (we were travelling form the US so couldn't carry LP's - but they have many LP's!) Staff were super friendly and gave us some info on finding older, classic Malaysian albums, as well as modern stuff.

The vibes are truly unmatched. Coffee, cookies, brownies, you can even play some records on the vinyl, then upstairs, boom. A jamming / event space for music and the like. Oh and there's a piano down back. A few keys don't work but if you ask nicely, they'll let you play it. LOVE this place

Best place to hang out for music lover

Very nice place with great owners. A lot of good music, mostly Punk and metal. We have visited them during our last day of holidays in Malaysia, and it was a good choice of mine. Hope to see You again in the future. Greetings from Poland! :)

Owner's so nice and friendly. Great collection of old records, cassette, cd's and LPs, along with affordable and interesting merchandise like T-shirt's, books and keychains. There's also a nice cafe at the back of the record's store for you to chill out and have fun. Great taste of music. Quite close to Art Street.

I went out of my way to visit Ruas whilst in Penang and so delighted that I did. Not the biggest record store in the world but what they lack in floor space they make up for in genuine hospitality. A good selection of Punk and local bands are on offer at relatively bargain prices (relative to the Aussie dollar}. The owner was really helpful and sincerely appreciative of me visiting. He was accommodating too, opening late to ensure I was able to shop prior to flying out. Highly recommended if you are in Penang!

Nice place to chill !

Happened to be in Penang last week and found this small but interesting music shop near Komotar center. Selling CDs, vinyls and even cassettes. Managed to find quite a number of gems and best of all at a very reasonable price tag. If u are happen to be there for a short gateaway why not drop by and pay them a visit. U will never know what u can find there. Kudos Ruas Record

Ruas Records Store is a fantastic place to feel at home if youre a metal head. The storekeeper knows his music and is great at conversing with customers, be it new or loyal. I will definitely visit Ruas again very soon.
