Hillside Uncle Burger

So this is what I have to say - the best street food truck burger this far! What makes this burger unique and amazing in my mouth is the red and white onions that’s been mixed together and sautéed till it’s properly sweated out. Takes the flavour to the next level.

Had this since 1985 and it’s still this good today!

1st experience of burgers and hotdogs from a stall manned by Chinese. A delightful change. Tasty. Loved the caramelised onions.

I was introduced to this cute little food truck by my grandma when I was just a kid. This was about 30 years ago. In a way, it's kind of nostalgic for me, whenever I'm in Penang, so I have to have a go at their burgers. The uncle is semi retired, I think. He no longer fries up the patties and onions. The son has taken over, under the watchful eye of his dad. The mom is still there, helping out. Do note that they don't operate under a shelter so if it rains, the truck might not be there. And it only opens after 5 - 6 pm. I've posted the uncle's number so you might want to call before heading there Also you can just drive up to order if you are lazy to walk around.

Order any burger, any burger at all and it will satisfy your craving for a burger. The highlight of it is the fried caramelized onions. The sweetness of the onions perfectly synchronizes with all the other sauces and the patty. It's very filling though, it's a meal by itself. Feel free to ask for less or more toppings and they will gladly oblige. Their burger has its own unique taste, different from other ramly burger stalls that you'll find scattered across Penang.

It's a bit of a drive if you are staying in town. A little bit closer if you're staying along Batu ferringhi but definitely worth the trip.

A place to go if you love caramelised onions. Ask for more. Their opening hours might differ based on how much burger is left.

Generally good place to buy supper but would prefer a more toasted bun.

Those food truck lovers, those burger sellers, those loves onions, those love Ramly type burgers......if you haven't tried Uncle Hillside Burger, means you're missing on the best burger in Penang.

Their burgers n hotdogs comes with the original fried onions n mixed vege... It makes the burger n hotdog Complete. Yes .. complete.

Been ages since I last ate this. Its kinda nostalgic for me. Usually I will buy then go to the chinese shop next to 7-11 to buy beer drink. best. I guess one of the best Chinese burger in the island?

love the juicy red onion special sauce and just quick cook on egg that make it still sloppy . Best!

My parents used to take me to get the hotdog from hillside “uncle” ever since I was a kid. Before that, my mum used to visit him for a snack during her lunch breaks in the 90s.

Now that I’m back in Penang for a visit, I took my partner to try the chicken hotdog and burgers. We sat on the red plastic chairs right next to the truck and honestly, the taste hasn’t changed at all and it was AMAZING. 😭

It’s nothing fancy, but maybe that’s why it’s great? I love the hotdog with cheese, egg and they always add fried onions along with fresh cucumber, tomatoes and ketchup.

My partner loved it so much, he wanted to come back the next day for seconds! But we found they’re only open Friday-Sunday now. So we’ll be back this Friday 😬

Probably the WORLD BEST burger, being their loyal customer for the past few decades since school days. Must try if you have not eaten before. Business hour changed from 5.30pm to 8.30pm only. Go earlier if you don't want to be disappointed.

A great alternative for street side burger, they are not your typical over flow with sauce burger. Everything is cook with care and standard. A hidden gem in Penang. Uncle is very humble and fast with the food. Before i even finish taking photo, he already finish cooking 3 burgers for us

Came in around 530pm and managed to eat near the garden. Able to grab the coconut drink with coconut meat as well. What a wonderful local combination

Had this about 35 years ago since I was a young kid at Jalan Gajah. Still the same style. Soft buns, caramelised cabbage and onions served with all burgers and hot dogs. The line may be long, the wait is worthwhile. Even my kids wants to eat everytime we are back to Penang. Takeaway back to the hotel room.

I knew this since 1985 in Jalan Gajah. Probably he was selling it even before 1985. Still my favourite.

47 years and still going strong. I use to love this Aunty and uncle before and still do. They have become an icon of Penang. ❤

So good, even though its more expensive than MCD. Still good even though it’s cooked by the son. Only open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays evening

My whole family love Uncle's burger. We are fans of his burger more than 10 years back. His service is great too and his family is also very friendly. His burger price is quite reasonable with chicken n beef to choose from.

Loved the hotdogs and burgers (with egg and cheese of course) 10 years ago, and just tried it again and it is exactly as I remembered it! Must have!
