The fried CKT was highly recommended by a local Grab driver, who has been a loyal customer and fan since young. The chef behind the wok was an old man, a sign of good confidence that I was getting something from someone with decades of polished culinary skills under his belt. Indeed, the wokiness and taste of the CKT carry the signature of the unique Penang CKT. The price is reasonable. I can easily tuck in 2 plates without breaking a hole in my pocket. However, if you are longing for plump and succulent cockles, this is not your plate of CKT. The Hor Fun stall in the coffeeshop is worth a try, although it may not be the best, but still good and cheap. If there is one place in Penang to get the best of the cheap and good food that the locals have been enjoying for decades, Air Itam is one of them. There are lots of other good food around that will make one visit very difficult. You will be spoilt for choice. A few visits may be needed to fully explore and appreciate the variety.

The koay chap stall was good. Also tried the oyster mee from the stall at the front of the kopitiam which was super delicious! Prices are cheap (for us) and the portion is just nice. The claypot mee was average. Service is great, everyone was lovely and polite! Ventilation isn’t the best but that’s probably most Kopitiams around the area. Would definitely return again for the oyster mee.

A local kopitiam without tourist traps! 👏
Char Kuey Teow, Kuey Teow Teng and Duck Meat Kuey Chap are what we tried and all are delicious!
I wish we have another stomach to try out more food but overall everything was great.
I recommend getting a table at the back which is more comfortable and do remember to order a drink to avoid getting charged RM2 per table.
Their kopi beng was great too so definitely no harm trying out their drinks!

This cafe is traditionally well known for it coffee and foods store. Live the sitting at the back, and the colour combinations of green around the shop. Just another great place in Penang heritage experience.

Environment is clean, cozy and table arrangement is according to social distant. Got varieties of hawker food too, like Kuay Chiap, Wan Tan Mee, Lam Mee, etc... Nice place to take a rest while shopping at market.

Favourite coffee shop for almost 20 years. The food here is my only local cuisine, it is also extremely good, you can't get this flavour anywhere else. Specially love the Char Kuey Kak, Curry Mee and Koay Chap. Food here is cheap too since it is not a tourist spot. There is also a market close by and stalls along the road to walk and shop after eating. Parking is a little far though.

back here for CNY every year and this char kuey teow is my go to!! The char kuey kak, apom, kuey chap are good. Plus the drinks are heaven - guling peng, kopi peng, teh peng (recommended)

This cafe serves the most authentic coffee in penang. They are most famous for their kopi beng at affordable prices, even worth more than the ones sold at starbucks! Hwoever, do expect a large crowd on Sunday morning as there are way too many breakfast choices and due to its prime location at the ayer itam morning market. You might have trouble finding places to park here as most people either came here by foot or by motor vehicle. The hot plate noodles could be one of the best in penang as so far its very hard to find a decent authentic sizzling hot plate noodle in penang.

Possibly the best coffee in Penang (and the world)! Lots of variety of food you can buy from various stores. Long way from the city but worth the trip and great way to start your morning!

All time favourite for the locals.
Kuih Chiap, Claypot noodles, CKT and Nasi kandar are some of the locals fav.
The coffee is excellent.

Be cautious on the Nasi Kandar, 3 person helper will give different pricing.

We do loved their Char Kuey Teow and some Penang white coffee for breakfast. Only thing is that you should buy some drinks on table otherwise get penalty of RM2.00.
