We loved wandering around Chinatown in Penang. It is so authentic, and it is free! There is so much to see, each day we noticed different things, so never boring.

Such amazing architecture and culture. Not to forget to mention the abundance of noodle shops & snack places along the way. Wonderful to see the blend of cultures throughout the areas.

I visited Penang in summer and chose a hotel in Chinatown. The weather here was sunny and hot, even more intense than in Vietnam. But I enjoyed walking, even during midday, instead of renting a public bicycle or taking a bus. Because there were beautiful pedestrian walkways like this.

The arches are a distinctive feature on every street in Chinatown. They're not only pedestrian walkways but also public art spaces. I was surprised when passing through each space, which was uniquely decorated with different colors, wall paintings, and decorative items. Shops were adorned with colorful advertising signboards. It looks like an art exhibition, and each display (I mean sidewalk) reflects the owner's taste and personality.

This sidewalk design is truly suitable for places with hot-humid climate and frequent rains. It provides shelter from rain and sun. It's not only safer and cleaner but also encourages people to enjoy walking.

The area has become a large art gallery with painted murals on the sides of shops and buildings. Some of these encourage visitor intervention. Great way to encourage visitors to visit the area.

Besides Little India this China town is the reason to come to Penang. There is no other place like Penang/George town where one can see Little India and China town so close to each other. Both have great and extensive range of food, fruits and sweets. Some are worldwide famous like Penang Laksa - a must try delicious noodle soup.

Collection of streets around the area with many traditional houses and shops. Walk through and peek into many shop houses, take note of the old architecture. Sample local food and drinks in many shops along the way. Take photos with locals here. And look for the many street art and iron art works displayed around the area. Best time to walk around is evening time when the sun is not directly over head.

A beautiful area!
So exciting to walk through this area. A peaceful atmosphere at the early morning or late evening. My soul would be wandering in the 19th century. I really love the architecture of the old shop houses.

Desserts on steroids, unique and beautifully presented assortment of sweets I'm sure if you see it you will have fomo cuz you wanna try everything. They have paper placemats you and your kids can doodle on. I had an memorable and relaxing time with my family. Try their nutmeg soda, taste like a healthy version of coke

Well, I had stayed on this area for 2 nights. Nothing more to see in the night but only food restaurants and hawkers. During the day, I only walked around and was so confused what I should enjoy. Only old buildings and closed museums.

Campbell Street in Georgetown, Penang. Pop into the tea shop and talk tea with the proprietor. He will treat you with cups of freshly brewed Pur Eh tea and explain to you the different kinds of tea making process. Nicely tinned tea leaves are good as gifts, costing about US $4.
