It’s self owned museum, I met the owner and her friend. They really like to introduce what’s inside and the story of Dr. Sun Yat Sen very clear and the history in Penang. If you need guide, just tell the staff they will be very helpful and friendly, also you can ask anything with the owner.

Very worth to visit because this building has lot of history inside!

The 'Sun Yat-sen Museum Penang' is in a historic house and is a must for people interested in the history of China. For those that don't know, here is 'Sun Yat-sen' in a nutshell!

He devised many of his plans to overthrow the Qing Dynasty in the museum building. In 1910, acting on the immense support among overseas Chinese for the ousting of the Qing dynasty, Sun moved the southeast Asian headquarters of the Tongmenghui party to Penang.

Read more if you are interested, but a visit to this museum will greatly help, too.

Entrance is 10 ringgits and there is always someone on duty to explain and show you around.

I really enjoyed visiting this museum. We were delighted to have Khoo Salma herself guiding us through the entire museum and narrating the history relating to Dr Sun Yat Sen’s greater mission and his sojourn in Penang. Really enjoyed and learned so much from the guided tour. For example, I never knew Kwong Wah Yit Poh was founded by Sun Yat Sen, till today!

What was also impressive was how intact and well conserved this Straits Chinese house was.

Certainly recommend it to all who visit Penang, or those who are residents of Penang who have a liking for history.

As a liberal art student I can be one hundred percent sure that this place is a must for people interested in the history of China. The lady touring us is so professional, friendly and she has written her own book about the history of Sun Yat Sen in Penang.
I’m glad to meet her and talked about more details of this period of history. If you are a history lover, please come and see.
The ticket costs 10 Ringgit. Touring is for free.

Interesting and informative museum about the life of Sun Yat Sen. In 1910, acting on the immense support among overseas Chinese for the ousting of the Qing dynasty, Sun moved the southeast Asian headquarters of the Tongmenghui party to Penang. When Sun first brought his family to Penang in 1910, the building housed the Penang Philomatic Union reading club.
There was a free guide who explained to us the artifacts briefly which made it easier to understand.

Really interesting piece of important history! The house is steeped in intrigue. We had a fascinating tour from the granddaughter of the fourth owner of the house. Super nice staff. What a hidden gem.

The place is run by an old(ish) man who is very knowledgable about everything in the museum. He is fluent in Mandarin and Malay, and his English is not bad at all. Good opportunity to learn about the guy who changed china for the good in the early 1900s

If i didn't visit this museum, i would not know that Sun Yat Sen stayed in penang for 3 & half months to raise fund for revolutions in china, even his 2 daughters studied for 1 year in penang. Malaysian Chinese are the chinese that donated the 2nd most money outside China. Very cheap ticket price, just rm10 with free english & mandarin tour. The guide is an actual historian who gives good explanations. This is a good place to spend 30 min to 1 hour but surprisingly not a lot of promotions about this place & I'm the only visitor there during my time

Ms.Khoo is a knowledgeable and elegant person. She gave me and my family a wonderful guide on the text panels in the museum. We knew more about the contribution of Dr.Sun Yat Sen and the relationship of the overseas Chinese living in Penang with him through the words of Ms.Khoo. This is a highly recommended place to visit on Penang Island.

Visited back in Jan.

This building is the house used by the Chinese revolutionary, Sun Yat Sen, when he lived in Penang. The house museum tells the life and times of Sun Yat Sen when he lived in Penang and formed his plans for creating a republic of China from the then absolute monarchy. The house is an amazing piece of history and worth the visit for those interested in one of the most momentous events of the 20th century.

Great to set foot where a piece of history of a revolutionary legend once lived and strategized to form a new nation, putting tiny Penang in significance towards that. The rest, they say, is history!
