Book Island 岛读书店

My favourite books stall while we explore ( short vacation ) to Penang, it was about 2 mins walk from the hotel we stayed at.

What a place!

As a tourist, I came across COEX because of the curiosity. Turned out, that one is a book store with literature mostly in Chinese. Workers were nice and pointed to shelves where I found English books about Malaysian culture and history. When I've been there, their exhibition room was full of postcards, magnets and drawings of butterflies and insects. We had a chat and I learned that room is monthly updated so you'll probably see another topic. They also write and print a local magazine. Don't ask me about its quality, pages were in Chinese :-)

对我而言，这是9天槟城旅行里最大的亮点。不要被大门的铁皮外衣吓走了，推开门，里面是另外一个世界，舒国治的签字被认真的装裱起来，他的新书也到货了😄

一个很有意思的以经营中文图书为主的书店，书店里有很多马来西亚本地出版的中文书籍，包括他们自己出版的杂志，有相当数量的马华文学读物，也有香港、台湾文艺类书籍。整个书店不大，但是非常值得看一看，和店员的交谈中也了解到很多。对于中国大陆的读者来说，看到自己的母语在被允许自由生长的地方展现出不同的可能性，很开心也很感慨。

A great bookstore! It’s pretty small but my wife and I spent probably two hours there. Lots of interesting books about the local history and also about the region. There is a good variety of books published by HK and TW publishers as well. And they are also running some publishing business. The staff were extremely friendly and quite knowledgeable – answered a lot of random questions of ours. The place is a little difficult to find because it is in a corner after you get into this COEX area (artistic park?), but definitely worth a visit!

槟城很好的书店，有很多关于华人身份认同的著作，对华人文学感兴趣的绝对值得一来。
