Beautiful mansion with a lot of interesting artifacts and a hearty guide (we had an elderly gentleman) who really has pride and insight into the rich memory of the place.
Also guests are allowed to touch almost everything and sit on all antique chairs and sofas, which brings a live spirit to the music rather than a stale atmosphere of dust of usual museums.
Great dive into history of local populace and their adventures!

The mansion has least view from outside. But within ,it has some exquisite collections of the royal family holdings. The place is well maintained and beautifully arranged. There is an entrance fee of RM 50, but there is lots to see and you can spend around 1 hr seeing the displays. At 1.30pm,there is a guide tour also
.The staffs are helpful and there are lots of photogenic items. Inhouse stores are also there for buying souvenirs

A spectacular mansion/museum. It is over the top luxury and includes an opium room, priceless ceramics and jewelry. It is an example of the Peranaken heritage. It was built in the 1890’s by a Chinese tycoon and is now a UNESCO world heritage site.
Highly recommended.

Very informative FREE guided tour (Thanks to the very knowledgeable tour guide - Stanley)
We lean so much about the Peranakan culture.
Well preserved and maintain mansion.
It’s worth visiting if you’re in George Town.
At the time of visiting, entrance fee is RM 25.

This is one of the must visit places when in Penang.
It's a historical house that a rich Chinese businessman had built in the late 1800s early 1900s.
The businessman was so rich that he also built a Chinese Temple next door, as well as a separate museum, with a dining room and kitchen buildings at the rear.
A lovely mansion that is well furnished with beautiful furnishings, and easily takes you back to yesteryear.
The Temple, museum and the kitchen are also worth visiting and are all included in the one entry price of 25RM as at Oct 2023.
I visited during the off-peak season and it was somewhat busy, but in peak season it could possibly be crowded.
The buildings are air-conditioned and this makes for an excellent atmosphere and encourages taking the time to view all that is on display. Allow between 1-3 hours to see everything depending on how much time you wish to spend taking in the great experience and looking at all the wonderful features, details and displays.
The history of how he made his fortune, including tin mining, is also interesting and worth reading about.

Excellent attraction. Enjoy.

This is a must visit to this Peranakan Mansion when in Penang. A wonderful step back in time(you must take the free tour). Francis was a very enthusiastic, knowledgeable and amusing guide through this fabulous collection of history and beautifully restored house. After we enjoyed a lovely lunch at the attached Nyonya restaurant.

This house is truly beautiful, even more so than the famous Blue Mansion. In addition to the stunning architecture, there are many fascinating items belonging to the family, such as their impressive jewelry, clothing, and kitchenware. I highly recommend visiting this house.

I visited the Mansion yesterday and was fortunate to arrive just as an English language tour was starting. Our guide was so knowledgeable and passionate about the mansion, its history and the astonishing collection it holds, but was also funny and skilled as a storyteller. He easily held everyone’s attention!

I’ve been traveling through SE Asia for almost three months now, and this is one of my top experiences. Where to start - the architecture, the remarkable restoration, the priceless furniture, jewelry, and overall collection within?? And all beautifully decorated for Christmas, what a treat!

Don’t think twice, go! You’ll be glad you did!

I was literally blown away by the whole trip, just like a dream

The mansion is well maintained, it feels like we have been taken back to the Peranakan era, the building is very magnificent with architecture that was famous at that time. the English tour starts at 1 o'clock and the tour guide is very good at taking the tour. We were very entertained by all the information he told us, I would recommend this place to fellow Peranakan culture lovers.

Follow the guided tour and you can have a better understanding of Peranakan culture and their history. The displays are very antique and there are great collections for us to appreciate. After the tour, you can spend more time on your own to see every details of the collections. It is suitable for people who likes culture and history.

Entrance fee is rm25. Worth the trip and the price. You ALSO get free access to the Georgetown Mansion with the receipt you bought here since they just opened up and doing promotions to attract more tourist.

The place is pretty big and has lots to see and read. Many good photoshoot spots. There are English and Chinese tour guides included that start every now and then or when the group is big enough.

English guide tour started at 130pm on a Monday when I visited, but I think honestly that you could show up anytime and there will be a tour you can catch with just a bit of a wait. There is an upstairs section where no shoes are allowed which isn’t covered by the tour, so that could be a good way to fill time.

Bring cash to pay for your ticket (25 ringgit) if you’re in a small group. I did see card payment accepted but for a tour group of 17 people.

If the blue mansion is the immaculately adorned Nyonya without a single hair out of place, this is the fun sister with a reputation for the best gossip. Walking through this place felt like visiting family. If you need to sit for a break, I recommend the jewelry section as it’s one of the few air conditioned spots.

I was in Penang for holidays and visited the Peranakan Mansion. It was slightly crowded with many foreign visitors like myself. Lucky there was a guide who speaks English and he was very knowledgeable of the history behind and also quite
humourous.
It is an interesting tour of this mansion to see the remarkable interiors and its ancient costumes and jewellery.
Every story has it's history behind it and here is where I discovered the history of this Mansion after listening to the guide and a fascinating tour inside.

Impressive is how I would call this historical mansion. It shows you the grandeur and magnificence of how the rich and famous used to live in Georgetown. From custom sculptures to imported iron posts from Scotland to their own personal temple and a gigantic kitchen, this is a mansion that'll surely leave an impression

This is one of the most beautiful museums I have ever seen.
You can feel the ancestors walking with you as you stroll through the mansion. It is so well preserved and the contents, stunning.
We were lucky to meet a 5th generation descendent, Michael, at the entrance. What an honour, Sir.
I highly recommend this museum.

Definitely recommended if its your first time in Penang and you want to understand the culture.

Lucky to have an english guide who started the tour already. He explained how the rich culture of penang came about especially through the influence of the family who owned the mansion. You can see the ancient chinese traditions mixed with nyona or malay culture. You can see it on how they wear the clothes and the architectural design. Some collections are the collections of the new owner already.

You can rent their traditional clothes also. Just be wary that this tends to be super crowded. So getting a picture perfect spot, takes patience. There is also a traditional resto inside incase you get hungry.

The place was decorated rightfully with chinese new year lanterns.

Lovely experience to break up all of the cafes and eating. Original stuff was so cool to see and our tour guide Stanley was very funny. Highly recommend this spot if you’re in Georgetown.

One of the best Private Museum I have visited.

The Mansion used to be owned by a Pernanakan Kapitan (Leader of the Chinese Community) in Penang.

A wealthy developer bought over the Mansion from the family, merticulously restored it and uses it to display his extensive collection of Pernanakan antiques.

They have half-hourly tours conducted in English and Mandarin were they explain the history of the Pernanakans in Penang and Malaya, their culture and practices, the mansion's interior layout annd designs, furniture and heirlooms and antiques displayed in the Museum.

Our guide, Stanley was really enthusiastic, knowledgable and professional.

You can also buy souveniers like bracelets, nonya shoes, birds nest, Nonya cookies and dried meats.

They also rent Nonya Kabaya (Dresses) and you can take photos in the settings.

Its definitely worth the entry fee I paid and a must goto place to visit in Penang.

What used to be a private mansion is now a museum dedicated to the Peranakan culture of Penang. The museum is beautifully furnished with over 1,000 antiques. Don't forget to visit the impressive temple dedicated to the Chinese tycoon who once owned the mansion. The temple is accessible via a doorway from the museum. Overall, a unique and immersive experience of a bygone era.
