The Canteen at Chinahouse

Great happening place, great live band, great food and drinks. What more of a patron to demand and expect except a little better attitude at the bakery counter. For this Canteen is linked back to back of the famous China Town bakery house.

RM30 minimum spending per head count for adults and any drinks for kids to grant you a table for a live band starting from 9.30pm onwards. Tables are usually fully occupied early so reservations are preferred.

One of the best places for music in Georgetown. To meet local musicians and eat a rather good burger with beer.
The atmosphere itself is super nice.
Images and arts everywhere.
No crazy drunk alcoholic people. Intelligent atmosphere.

Nice environment with great live music performances. Liked their home made meatballs and kombucha.

Best venue I visited in all of Malaysia and Singapore. The live music was excellent (it seemed as though we were listening to Penang’s very talented answer to Black Eyed Peas), the clientele were trendy and bar was affordable. The venue has plenty to offer aside from a bar and music, namely a cafe, restaurant and gallery. I can’t speak highly enough and I strongly recommend a visit if you are in Penang.

Great place to hang out and great live music. The band however comes and goes. So , before you visit, make a point to check who's playing. Minimum cover charge is RM50.

Saving grace of china house. Seems like the only portion of this establishment that has employed decent staff that give two fish about customers. Prices arent too bad either.

Seems like the only thing they are good at is organizing community events. Maybe stick with that?

A nice and contemporary atmosphere, each table covers with drawing papers, allowed you to show your "precious artwork" 🤭

The Canteen at China House is a cool bar. Not only design and wine bar it's also lovely staffs with fast service. The live band is back and I really have a great time here. Don't miss if you are in Gorgetown!!

Just went to this bar for a drink. Didn't know there was live music. Just a female singer and a male keyboard player. Her voice and his playing were out of this world. Delightful performance. Even the other noisy disrespectful customers who talked right through the show didn't manage to spoil it

Fantastic Experience! This is one of the many unique gems of Penang. An interactive restaurant with incredible ambiance. There are board games, art contests, books, art galleries and a quiet peaceful garden out back. The food was creative and fresh. There is live music and a bar scene at night. This was in the top 5 restaurants I have ever been to.

Well, I didn’t try the food but the wines had the enormous benefit of being new, natural and unconventional

Great spot for brekky/brunch during the day and for jazz and drinks in the evening. The food in the day was good, and there is a wide selection of cakes - although you pay for the quality and variety.
The jazz club is really good in the evening and I really enjoyed the band and atmosphere. I would return here for some jazz if I were in Georgetown again.

Gorgeous decor, very sultry vibe and the best wine I've had a a long time (I live in Thailand and wine options are super limited). Great food, I had the hot dog, which was definitely upgraded from a side walk hot dog but could have used more toppings. Delicious nonetheless!

Good vibes, fantastic ambience, fabulous live bands, happy trendy crowd, excellent cocktails Might be busy as there is no other place like here offering all that sunshine and fun.

great find on a Monday night where everything else is closed and to our surprise there was a fabulous singer that made our night! she was just fantastic and such a great ending to out last night in Penang so for that I thank you.

Good ambient to relax yourself with a good drink, cakes and live band. Instyle band is my favorite band so far. Definitely will go again.
