My wife and I really appreciated this smaller resort. Not as loud or as busy as the bigger ones. Our room was quite modern, bed was comfortable. Food is about as good as it gets for a Mexico resort. Service friendly and the resort was very very clean. The best part is the beach. Super clean, and well laid out with palm trees for natural shade. We are definitely coming back with the kids next year!

Just returned from a one-week stay (first week of March 2024) with my extended family: 2 seniors, 4 adults, 1 child and 1 infant. This is an excellent resort: gorgeous beach, delicious food with so much variety, very clean and comfortable rooms, attentive and friendly service, and lots of activities. We had no issues and really enjoyed our stay at Viva Maya in Playacar.

Very nice experience. Every night is a show and every night you can reserve dinner at one of the restaurants at either Maya or Azteca. The restaurants try to differentiate what they offer from the buffet food based on the theme (Italian, Mexican, Asian, etc. ) The beach is right there if you have a room at the closer buildings or about 10 minutes at the further building.

Overall recommended and the staff was kind and did their best to accommodate you.

Great vacation spot, very organized. The only downside was the sales pitch for the VIP Club - we received a discount for a tour but didn't buy anything. Plenty of food, drinks, activities and relaxing.

I visited this resort with no expectations after seeing several critical reviews. My own experience was significantly different.

Room
Clean, spacious, good ventilation. There was a in room safe at additional cost and no conditioner. No stocked mini fridge or any water bottles. There are water filling stations at various points in the resort so not a big issue

Food
Wasn’t amazing but wasn’t bad. Good variety of Mexican and themed dining choices. Fresh fruit, salad, veggies and meat stations. Always left feeling satisfied. You can reserve an a la carte restaurant every 3 days

Beach
Underwhelming as it was a bit murky and dirty filled with garbage. Sand was amazing and beach patrol was good. We didn’t do water sports because the weather conditions didn’t allow so. We spent majority of our time in the pools which had good spacing and a nice swim up bar

Drinks
Definitely not premium liquor but good choices. Bartenders are friendly and hospitable. Had good selection of international liquor, run of the house drinks, finger foods and smoothies. The hidden gem was the coffee bar that featured amazing caffeinated drinks and sweets

Entertainment and Activities
Use the app on your phone to see hourly scheduled events. Plenty to do without booking excursions for both adults and children.

Overall.
5/5. This is a 4 star resort and we felt it delivered to its standards

With it being my first time being in Mexico, all the way from Canada, let alone at an all inclusive resort I wasn't sure on the things to expect but all in all I had a wonderful stay at our resort.🫶🏼🇲🇽💖

Entertainment: From scheduled nightly shows, that were packed with beautiful solos, high energy routines, aerial performances it was nothing short of entertaining. The entertainment team, especially Skye, Jessica, and Rebeca, went above and beyond to maintain high energy levels during performances and the "after party." The crew's passion for dance was evident, making it a delightful experience, they were eager to engage with guests to make everyone enjoy the night, very beautiful souls💖

Staff/ Crew: Housekeepers were friendly but also exceptionally helpful and attentive. I must commend the bartenders and servers for their exceptional kindness and friendliness. Special commendation goes to Ceasar and David in the dining buffet, who consistently provided friendly conversation and demonstrated remarkable dedication by keeping drinks topped up, cleaning tables, and assisting other staff/ customers. Their hard work truly made my stay memorable.

Contrary to some remarks about bad service from bartenders, my experience was nothing short of wonderful. The bartenders, particularly Thomas at the poolside bar, were not only friendly and fun but also exceptionally hardworking. In instances where the line at Cafe Maya was too long in the morning, the convenience of other bars—whether in the lobby or by the pool—offering the same quality coffee was a thoughtful touch. The resort's cleanliness added to the overall positive atmosphere. Encountering cute little Agoutis, coatis, and grackles was a unique and cool experience, something ordinary for locals but a charming novelty for me.

Beach: Was nothing short of amazing, though chairs and towels filled up quickly – a minor inconvenience easily overcome by strategic planning. The pool, albeit smaller in comparison, was a welcome escape, especially the adult pool providing respite from the lively kids. The sand was clean, chairs reorganized every night, garbages were emptied and cleaned up.

Other activities/entertainment: A highlight was Melissa's yoga class on the beach, offering a beautiful experience complemented by a refreshing green juice and provided yoga essentials. The solo performances, including guitar and saxophone solos, created a melodious atmosphere, complemented by the on-site merchants adding vibrancy to the setting.

Issues: While the price of an all-inclusive stay may be higher than other options, it doesn't justify mistreating the hardworking staff. A friendly reminder to all guests: if you visit Mexico, take the time to learn at least a few words in Spanish. You are in their country, and showing respect for their language and culture is the least we can do.Surprisingly, I encountered more unfriendly behavior from fellow guests than from the amazing crew, who consistently went above and beyond to make my stay enjoyable. It was disheartening to witness visitors treating some staff with arrogance and inconsideration. As a non-bilingual guest, I'd like to emphasize the importance of learning simple Spanish words like "gracias" or simple greetings. Small efforts can go a long way in fostering a respectful environment. Clapping at
waitstaff should never be necessary; it's crucial to treat all service workers with the respect they deserve.

Had the most wonderful honeymoon here! Our gorgeous room walked out onto the beautiful beach and was near the 24/7 food and drinks.

FOOD/DRINKS:
We LOVED all the a la cartes, especially Portofino. As soon as you get your room number, make reservations on the app! The buffet was also fine. I will miss the great breakfast and lunch service by Manuel. The buffet fish was great! Flan was my favourite buffet dessert. There’s also a separate menu for members at the buffet. The cafe Maya also had great smoothies!

ENTERTAINMENT:
The nightly shows were also great. I especially love acrobats so it was cool to see aerial stunts and the likes! I also enjoyed the dancers. There’s one in particular (Aldair) who is an AMAZING dancer. If you’ve seen him dance, you’ll know who I’m talking about. He is such a talented dancer!

ACTIVITIES:
I love to dance so it was fun to participate in the dance activities in the day and night time. Sports bar is really fun. We also quite enjoyed archery! There’s a trapeze, but we were not brave enough to try it out. The catamaran was a fun water sport activity. The sports center opens at 9am so be sure to call them first thing to make a reservation.

LANGUAGE:
There were a lot of travellers from France so as a French-speaking Canadian it was a cool experience to have activities hosted in Spanish, French, and English. A really neat trilingual environment! The reception staff also spoke French. However, many staff spoke only Spanish so I’d recommend brushing up on basic Spanish skills so you can communicate your questions.

ACCESSIBILITY:
The resort is very accessible with lots of ramps. There are even wheelchair accessible beach chairs. It is also on the smaller side so any attendants pushing a wheelchair user does not need to walk too far.

LOCATION
It’s located in Playacar, a gated community a 25min walk from 5th avenue. Felt very safe here walking. There’s also ruins, an aviary with flamingos, and the market is right out front! We also borrowed their bikes to check out Playacar (you can’t take them beyond the gates).

INTERNET
I had bought an Airalo eSIM but the connection was really weak on the resort. The resort wifi also was not good enough to upload videos to Facebook (but photos were fine) so don’t event high speed Internet. But that’s ok: you’re on vacation!

OVERALL
Overall would 100% come back to Viva Maya and have been encouraging family and friends to go as well! It was the perfect stay and we had a wonderful time. This was my second time staying in a Playacar all-inclusive (the first being Sandos just a few months ago).

Love this resort. Food, restaurants, beach, activities, night shows, kids club, pools. Staff is working all the time. Thank you to Maximo at Breakfast, Margarito at the Wild Orchid Bar and Edwar at the Terraza restaurant. Excellent service and special attention from all. Anabel at Guest Services was of such assistance to make my stay memorable. I am hooked and will come back next year. Love

Beautiful beach. As advertised, the resort has food and drink to your heart's delight. The activities are top notch, especially the staff- Milla, Lionel, Lenar and Joshue. Particularly loved Melissa's morning yoga with NRG2GO.

Stayed a week, the service was great. Hospitality was awesome and all the employees from waiters, cooks, entertainment, maintenance and house keeping were super polite, respectful and very attentive and accommodating. On our departure the friendly concierge was most helpful and made sure we were seated, served some drinks while we waited for our taxi. Rooms were okay, we stayed in the newly renovated rooms. However, for the amount we paid I would of thought our rooms would of been bigger and more equipped. But up and all, I loved it! Thank you for the attention.

Not sure why the negative reviews...we found great food, drinks and attentive staff. The beach rivals Punta Cana. Entertaining shows.

BEACH AND OCEAN WAS BEAUTIFUL, WE SPENT MOST OF OUR TIME THERE. THE SERVICE WAS VERY GOOD. ALAN AND KAT WERE VERY HELPFUL AT GUEST SERVICES. THE GYM HAS BEEN THE BEST OUT OF ALL THE RESORTS WE HAVE BEEN TO (NEEDS TO BE OPEN AT 6 AM). MY FAMILY OF 7 HAD AN AMAZING TIME. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Great family friendly resort with amazing Kids Club staff. My child participated in trapeze (sign up ahead for it) and a couple of live Disney themed shows. My 7 year old keeps talking about going back to Kids Club (many scheduled fun activities) and swimming everyday. He met a lot of friends from all over the world. Grounds and rooms are clean with lots of trees for shade. The food at buffet has a great selection, though some dishes were too salty at times or certain desserts were plain tasting. Resort staff are helpful and friendly. Entertainment staff were awesome. Would definitely recommend.

Great place!
I personally don't like to have long walks to the beach from main lobby that's why I choose this one over other big hotels with big property, this hotel is very cozy, rooms are fine ours was nice and clean, food is ok, alcohol is good lot to choose from, they have really good coffee they make! The beach is really nice and very close to walk to, I love it, as well lot of palm trees on the beach that makes it nice view for pictures and just hung out under the palms..
Will be back again!

We stayed For six days from October 26 until November 1 and we had an amazing time. The rooms are good and they are clean. The Buffet is always good with a lot of options and it’s good for vegetarian people as well. At first we were disappointed with a lot of kids in the pool but we found another pool on the side of the building which is adult only and we had an amazing time there. The beach is good but there is seaweed sometimes. They have great entertainment at night. They also offer kayaking all inclusive. Overall I highly recommend this place it is totally worth the money and you will not be disappointed.

We stayed at this resort in February 2023. This is a medium size resort where everything is within walking distance which is great!
We had a deluxe room that was very clean. Modern decor with excellent maid service.
The beach area was really nice. Resort staff worked hard at removing the sargassum daily. You cannot blame the Resort for a natural phenomenon.
The pool was clean, spacious and if you get there early enough you are able to get a decent spot. Please note that you are not allowed to take the blue chairs from the beach and bring them to the pool side. Security will bring them back.
The food at the buffet was fresh, diverse and pretty good. The best was the wood oven pizza at the buffet by the pool.
Upon arrival, If you book a la carte restaurant through the app you should be able to get at least a couple reservations but you could always ask the guest service area to assist you as sometimes they are able to accommodate you.
The staff, from the bellboys to the maids to security to the bartenders to the waiters, animation etc. were all super friendly and accommodating.
All this package together made this vacation pleasant, memorable and fun!!!
Highly recommend!!!

I loved this place. Took my daughter to celebrate her college graduation. The only thing that disappointed me is I had ordered a bottle of champagne to be in our room upon arrival and it wasn't there. I spoke to guest services and the next day it still wasn't there. Finally on day 3 it was put in our room and they provided an extra bottle for the inconvenience.

The staff is lovely and accommodating. I do wish there was 24 hour snack bar...just chips, finger/bar food. Nothing too crazy. But food choices in the buffet were varied and really good.

We had reservations in Portofino, the Mediterranean restaurant and it was superb, from the service to the food.

Overall we had a wonderful time and will return.
