AMERIMED Playa del Carmen Hospital

I came to emergency by ambulance and was treated immediately. I was given all necessary tests to assess that I had experienced a heart attack. I was away from home and he and his staff showed empathy and understanding to my particular situation. I was introduced to Dr. Hector Bayardo who was my cardiologist for my stay. He too provided outstanding services and I felt confident and safe in his hands. The staff in ICU were very good. Roselyn one of the nurses should be acknowledged for her outstanding skills as nurse. The staff in Human Resources were also exceptional. They assisted and guided me through the paper work and red tape required when going through insurance. They went far beyond their call of duty. My experience with Amerimed hospital Playa De Carmen is something I will go back to Canada and talk about.

When I arrived at the emergency room, I was administered pain medication very quickly. Then they took X-rays very quickly and I saw the doctor immediately,, the response was quick and efficient.

The staff across the hospital was friendly and helpful at all times.

When I wanted to leave, the concierge assisted with all aspects of the transfer, which was quite complicated. Her help was excellent.

My wife and I visited beautiful Playa Del Carmen from Jan. 20 to Jan. 30, 2024.
Unfortunately the third day we were there my wife got a very bad cough. She could not stop and had trouble breathing.
The Amerimed Hospital was close so we took a cab there. Spectacular facility very clean and very professional in appearance.
We were both very scared and worried. The wonderful young lady at the front desk was so helpful, compassionate and fortunately spoke perfect English.
They did ask to confirm our credit card would cover $2000 US. Totally understandable.
Anyway immediately my wife was brought to the emergency department while I filled out the necessary paperwork.
I found out later that when my wife went into the emergency department she immediately had an X ray, blood work and within 20 minutes was on IV. Wow not in Ontario, Canada where we are from. After 30 minutes i was asked to come to see my wife. This is when I found out she had double lung pneumonia.
Fortunately 2 hours into the IV treatment she was significantly better.
While my wife rested Dr. Araceli Sanchez reassured me that my wife would be fine. The doctor spent 30 minutes with me explaining the prescriptions and rest required. So personable, professional and caring. Again definitely nothing like we see in Ontario, Canada.
After five hours we were ready to leave. Again Dr. Sanchez suggested a very good pharmacy which she recommended for good service and price. Back at the front desk the receptionist called a taxi for us and when he arrived the front desk person told the cab driver in Spanish to take us to the pharmacy and wait for us to get the prescriptions and then take us back to our condo.
Again extra services that were wonderful and helped us manage a very scary day.
After four days we went back to the hospital for a follow up which was no extra cost.
Thankfully my wife's pneumonia was gone from her lungs and we could enjoy the last six days of our trip.

If you have any serious issues my wife and I would highly recommend the Amerimed Hospital in Playa Del Carmen.

I walked into this hospital desperate to find emergent psychiatric care for my husband. The Playa location was not able to meet our needs but without hesitation I was met with kindness and compassion by a staff member whose name I believe is Alejandro. He could see I needed help and assisted me in arranging emergency medical transportation for my husband from Playa Del Carmen to the Amerimed in Cancun. This support changed my entire day. Thank you!!!

We were transported to Amerimed Playa Del Carmen from a cruise ship when my husband got sick and needed more care than the Harmony of the Zara’s ship could provide. We went by ambulance almost 4 hours to reach the hospital.

ER doctor immediately took charge and kept me updated on my husband. They were crazy busy but she took time to talk to me and even allowed me to stay with him inER quite a bit. She spoke wonderful English which was a comfort since we don’t speak Spanish. They moved us to a room late that evening.

The staff here from the ER doctor, the Internal Medicine Doctor Imar Basurto, and the entire hospital staff have been wonderful. Only complaint is the hospital is so cold temperature wise. We both have been wrapped in two blankets around the clock while here.

Had a family emergency while on vacation. The staff were very attentive to our needs and helped us navigate our difficult situation. It's comforting to know my daughter was in good hands even when traveling abroad.

My husband fracture his ankle and we were fortunate to have been sent here. The fist person I came in contact with was Alexander at the reception desk and he was so kind and professional the entire time. The facility is clean and the doctor was great. I would say an area of opportunity is with the nurse team. My husband had to stay two nights and we had to move rooms one of the nights. This area needs more attention and the nurses need more training in some basic functions of the room, like how to work the TV and how to convert the sofa into bed. Over all we had good service and Alexander made it a great experience. Thank you for all you did.

Today on May 19th, I came in to get my daughter's stitches removed. Upon entry the receptionists were very courteous and helpful. I forgot some documents and they went out of their way to help us. They stated the cost could vary but around $600. As I was waiting with my wife I happened to check the reviews. I became a bit worried because all I saw were negative reviews. Over charge, bad service, and so on....I told my wife about it and told her I was going to be afraid to see the bill and she chuckled. The staff and doctor tended to my daughter with the upmost professionalism and cortousy. And when they gave me my bill it was $338.00. so it was less. All too often we only write the negative, I myself never write anything. But I noticed the only negative individuals seemed to be the foreign ( U.S.) Karen's. Unfortunately, my countryman. Oh well, my family and I are grateful for their service and care.

I am so thankful for the nurses, doctors and all the staff at this hospital. I was extremely sick, and speak very little Spanish. Every person made a big effort to communicate with me the best they could, and helped me understand them. Every person was kind and gentle with me, patient with me, and took excellent care of me when I was in a desperate situation, very far from home.
The facility itself is IMMACULATELY CLEAN, absolutely beautiful. The equipment used also immaculate and all new and top of the line. I felt so very fortunate to be in their care.
I wish I could remember everyone's name to thank them personally but believe me when I say that from the triage nurses, the porter, the nurses and doctors, even the cleaning staff- all personnel were just wonderful. I could give many many examples of kind thoughtfulness, but here is just one or two.. I had to use the washroom and had bare feet, when the porter saw me walking to the washroom he didn't want my feet to be cold so he hurriedly opened a package of slippers and put them on the floor at my feet for me. Seriously. How thoughtful!! And because I was so high fevered I was a bit delirious and walked quite unsteadily so at any moment a nurse or someone would offer me their arm to help me.
I needed to be sick in the washroom, and an administrative staff member asked if he could assist me. Seriously.

Oh and regarding the insurance covering my stay, we didn't have to lift a FINGER. The staff just took our policy number and took care of everything.

If you are sick anywhere near Playa del Carmen and can either afford it or have proper insurance coverage, please do yourself a favor and go here.

We had to come and get x rays because my son fell while we were staying at xcarat. I was very nervous after reading the reviews. Overall the price was much better than the reviews had me dreading. Timewise it did take a little while but that’s anything with paperwork and healthcare no matter where you are at. The communication about the pricing was very clear and effective.

I recently had abdominal surgery as an in-patient. The entire process from billing arrangements, pre-op appointments, actual surgery day went smoothly. The hospital administration worked with my insurance company for a guarantee of payment and were very willing to do so. The surgery is a great success with minimal to no pain. I took a shower the day after surgery! An absolutely positive experience. Thank you, AmeriMed!

I thought I had broken my leg at a resort in Tulum. I was able to message Dr Lopez via WhatsApp from the taxi. He was reassuring on the phone and upfront about costs.. I was immediately processed and taken to the x-ray. Dr. Lopez was very knowledgeable and experienced. I was in and out within an hour.

I feel so sorry to read all those bad reviews while I had an amazing experience, even excellent.

First of all it is important to have a health insurance, communicate with them before you leave on holiday what to do when you are ill or in danger.

Collect all the information you need in advance so the moment itself you will not experience delay or resentment. Also, you need a credit card so you can pay a deposit. This will be on hold on your card and will be released on your dismissal when everything with your insurance is settled. Do not stress about this! Be aware that the amount of your credit card is more than enough. You can even ask for an extra form that the hospital will release the money on your card as soon as possible.

I live on the other side of the world in Europe, so communication due time difference had a small delay. Indeed, you have to wait some time in between while the hospital treats you, this is because someone external is paying for your costs and needs to give an ‘okay’ for every action. So, you are all depending on each other. It’s understandable if you don’t have an insurance, a treatment can not be done and feels not fair. Therefor, check your options before you leave on a holiday, especially in another country.

The hospital itself is GREAT. The emergency, the doctors, the nurses, the tests, the room, the food,…It felt like being in heaven while being in such a bad physical state. My husband and I want to thank all the people who made me better again from the bottom of our hearts. We hope that everyone can experience what we had, but please, check everything you need before you leave for your getaway. The hospital really wants to help, but we are unfortunately stuck in a system and this works differently in every country.

I got the right prescriptions to recover after a stay of 3 days with a colonoscopy, so I can enjoy the rest of my holiday. It’s true you have to wait for your release in the hospital, but that has only to do with the finalisation between the insurance and hospital. The insurance has to acknowledge the ending of your treatment, as the hospital still not has full certainty of the whole payment.

I hope everyone gets an equal opportunity to enjoy universal health care in the future. Cheers and love for humanity!

After booking n appointment then reading reviews i felt i had to give my experience...Booked an appointment at this hospital for nose ear and throat specialist doctor Magali nothing but great things to say...for this Hospital Scan temperature taken during these crazy times put in a waiting room by myself 5 minutes at the most saw the doctor very thorough bill was more than reasonable the hospital is very clean.Nothing but a great experience...and big thanks
