These Royal Tombs are amazing, especially that some tombs took 35 years to build. The shear size and colours give the tombs a unique appearance.

The Royal Tombs of Petra are a series of large mausoleums carved directly into the sandstone cliffs. The tombs were carved by the Nabateans more than 2,300 years ago. The tombs consist of four distinct tombs and they are all worth seeing up close.

If you are visiting Petra, then this place should also be in your list other than the Treasury. Inside those caves you can see beautiful rock colors. Different shades of pink. That's why it was also called as Rose City.

#1 tourist attraction area in Petra, Jordan. The atmosphere is just phenomenal. The local guides are kids with amazing spirits and can speak 3 different languages including English and were very passionate about what they were doing. They helped us in clicking some wonderful and memorable pictures which i have attached. Please find the pictures attached for looking at the wonderful place. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽

Another huge and amazing place inside Petra. I would not miss it in your place. The rocks are very colourful. Take your time here, enjoy the atmosphere. Sit down and enjoy the moment here. You might even get some travel companion like a cute donkey or dog.

Sturdy shoes, lots of water.
Unbelievable insight into an advanced ancient civilisation. Loved being away from
the crowds, soaking in the atmosphere and views. The Nabatean Women’s Collective have their shops here, they have fair prices and decent quality. Warning - the caves stink of the poor donkeys that live in them. The colours, size and beauty will surely rock your world.

The biggest takeaway from this long series of tombs is the amazing colors you'll see inside (and sometimes outside) in the rock of the mountain they are built into. In a few places (like the Urn tomb), they look psychedelic and even other-worldly. The tombs themselves are grand and their facades are beautiful. Some of the them are probably the most intricate & ornate in whole of Petra. Be ready to climb & walk a lot if you want to enjoy the whole series of tombs.

Super underrated. Lots of ppl stayed on the main path and we didn't see many ppl on the route to the royal tombs. Most only know about the Treasury and the Monastery, but these are definitely worth visiting as well!

ransport inside petra: 20jd return to Treasure's point and 40jd to Basin's area + I don't know the price of donkey going to Monastery. Travel time by walks and taking a pictures from the gate to Monastery around 6-8 hours. This place is complex and the best view is from opposite this place.

Overlooking the center of Petra rise majestically the Royal Tombs, a series of large mausoleums with impressive facades hewn from the slope of the Jabal al-Khubtha rock massif. The Royal Tombs of Petra are more than 2,300 years old and were carved from rose-red sandstone by the ancient Nabateans. There are many tombs within, but four of them are considered the main tombs, as follows: 1= Palace Tomb, 2 = Corinthian Tomb, 3 = Silk Tomb, 4= Urn Tomb (from left to right, coming from Ad Deir).

1. Palace Tomb
The facade of the Palace Tomb is considered the grandest and most beautiful of the Royal Tombs. The four gates or portals lead to four separate burial chambers. From the rich design, it is believed that it was built in resemblance to a palace, particularly Emperor Nero's golden palace. An outstanding feature of the palace Tomb is that part of the upper levels built and not carved out of the rock.

2. Corinthian Tomb
The Corinthian Tomb, is the fourth of the main tombs in the royal group. The general design of the tomb, especially it's columns was modelled in a similar fashion to the Treasury's design. However, its smaller size and combination of different styles tell the difference. The construction of the tomb is estimated to be around 40-70 CE, when Nabataean King, Malichus reigned. Unfortunately, the Corinthian tomb is one of the most eroded façades in Petra

3. Silk Tomb
This tomb is called 'Silk' because of the colored layers of rock that cover the tomb like silk drapery. The Silk Tomb is beautifully colored with rocks that have natural pinkish, whitish and yellowish hues. The facade surface of the Silk Tomb has been damaged over time by weathering and other environmental factors but the colorful draping rocks are still stunning to see. It is located next to the Urn Tomb.

4. Urn Tomb
It is the biggest of the so-called Royal Tombs. This tomb was said to belong to King Malchus I, the Nabataean monarch who died in 70 CE.

A less known site in Petra. Very much worth the extra walk if you’re there to see the treasury.

About Petra
Historical place in Jordan

Petra, originally known to its inhabitants as Raqmu or Raqēmō, is a historic and archaeological city in southern Jordan. Famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system, Petra is also called the "Rose City" because of the colour of the sandstone from which it is carved; it was famously called "a rose-red city half as old as time" in a poem of 1845 by John Burgon. source
