An amazing hike and great option if spending more than one day in Petra. The hike is long and ends with a steep climb, but the views are worth it. Be sure to look for the view of the monastery in the far distance.

We took a Bedouin Jeep ride up to the trail head and then made the ascent up to the summit. The views are incredible and it’s so easy to see the Rift Zone that separate Jordan from Israel. The different rock types and and erosion make some awesome creations. The iron veins make cool ripples in the sandstone. The ride up also gives you a great application of the Bedouin lifestyle in the caves with their families.

Whether you are religious or not, this place is simply worth visiting when you're in Petra. It's a rather exhausting 3 hour hike away from the main path but the view on top absolutely makes up for it.
Be prepared though; you're going to need a solid pair of boots and also a sufficient supply of water since you'll be far away from the tourist routes and you'll not find any shop

A rather simple and typical Muslim Makam style shrine , but at a SPECTACULAR location, with amazing panorama views. An exhausting 3 hours hike (each way).. unless you can arrange a local pick up truck..

Amazing feeling to stand and pray at the traditional site of an ancient direct ancestor. Though we know it is probably misidentified - it's still a cool thought.

Quel lieux !

About Petra
Historical place in Jordan

Petra, originally known to its inhabitants as Raqmu or Raqēmō, is a historic and archaeological city in southern Jordan. Famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system, Petra is also called the "Rose City" because of the colour of the sandstone from which it is carved; it was famously called "a rose-red city half as old as time" in a poem of 1845 by John Burgon. source
