I did this in January of 2020 and had the best time, there was no charge to get there at all I just walked the trail myself, a bit difficult to find but honestly it was worth it in my opinion. It was such an incredible view and along the way it was nice seeing goats go by etc. grab a drink at the top as a reward for your long hike!

The viewing spot is free. However, the Bedouins are there just to hustle and make a living. If you want to use their service, then make sure to bargain with them $5-10 JD.

Great experience and a photo op, from the vantage point.

The treasury is the most beautiful spot in Petra and there are many different ways to enjoy the Treasury from above. To get to this viewpoint you'll need to turn to the right of the Treasury and start climbing up. When you reach the top you will be forced to buy something inorder to take photos.

We had a guide and horses that took us on a trek up the mountains (a bit nerve wracking if you've not ridden before!), we had amazing views of the Treasury from above, after a bit of a climb down steep rocks. Climbing back up to the horses, then onto the place of high sacrifice, breathtaking views across Petra. Then down a lot o steep uneven steps to the theatre and Petra proper. Around the Treasury it was very busy, so not many great photo ops, but we had a good guide who sorted us out. A bit of a walk back from there, but we met our horses half way and rode back the rest of the way. An expensive way of doing it, but Petra is a must and, if you can, see the Treasury from above, we'll worth the effort and days of aching muscles after!

There are several view points here all of which cost different amounts of money. I went for what I thought was the best view which is actually the lowest of the above treasury view points. I was able to bargain them down to 15 US dollars for two people and someone took me up to the point and gave me tea. According to the visitor center technically this is all illegal and no one is supposed to be doing this. There is a legal official route for an official above view but it is a super long route.

Polite, friendly and helpful family runs this small reshreshment point. Don't miss to climb with them and enjoy breathtaking view. I just left Petra. It was my first time ever, surely will not be last. Best regards from ,,Gardenia" ;)

The way to the point is left hand side while you are staying in front of the Treasury. Locals they want to charge you for guiding up, just dont pay and go yourself. The view is magnificent

The most amazing and spectecular view-point in Petra with good caffee. A little bit hard to reach, but it is worth all the stairs to climb. Trust me, I‘ve been here three times.

So there seems to be reviews about different locations here. There are 2 “guided” locations that are right near the treasury that “cost” 5 jod and are a 5 min walk up stairs or a 15 minute walk respectively. If not, there is a long, and i mean long walk past the royal tombs, up and down many stairs to a “free” viewing point where there is still a guy trying to charge you for the view. This is the highest view from the “free viewpoint”. (There are tons of cats up there).

It is a marvel of the Nabataeans on earth, and they really excelled in the smallest details of the ancient and historical city. It is my town and my hometown, Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World in Jordan, to which visitors from all over the world come to see the miracle and how the Nabateans excelled in drawing that artistic painting between mountains and rocks. I wish you an exploration and an enjoyable journey, because you will really be amazed when you see it for the first time on the ground. Lots of love from Petra ❤

Great view from above. Definitely must watch. Need some minutes to reach the spot but 10000% worth it. I suggest to visit the place both in the daylight and at night if there is such an opportunity. Guides are very friendly and seem to love what they are doing so tip them - they worth it! Also there are some sellers inside the canyon.

Cool view with the sunset and everything it was wonderful day also try to negotiate the price before going up since some (guides) will give u high price after you go down we ended up having a huge argument over the price.
There is an old guy selling tea up there for 1 jordanian Dinar also you can ask him to take some photos of you he is a good photographer 👍🏼

For 10 JD per person a Bedouin guide brought us to the viewpoint on the cliff just opposite the Treasury. It was a great decision to go there and take some pictures. Going up is exciting & not as dangerous as it seems. The guides helped us to climb up and get there safely. Those guys are just like mountain goats. :D

About Petra
Historical place in Jordan

Petra, originally known to its inhabitants as Raqmu or Raqēmō, is a historic and archaeological city in southern Jordan. Famous for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system, Petra is also called the "Rose City" because of the colour of the sandstone from which it is carved; it was famously called "a rose-red city half as old as time" in a poem of 1845 by John Burgon. source
