One of the greatest turf houses in Iceland. It shows so clearly how Icelandic people live before from The Vikings to the second world war. After that farmers moved to Reykjavik. Here are some photos I took when I visited this place

A charming turf house museum gives the visitor a real feel for what Iceland pioneer life was like. A must stop!

Super interesting place! If you have someone that is interested in architecture or history, this is a must stop. It's inspiring to see the way people lived and the place felt very welcoming and cozy. There is some history that tends to confirm the stories in the sagas, which is super cool. There is a cafe there, but it was closed for a private event while we were there. Definitely worth the detour to visit!

Probably my favorite cultural/historical stop in Iceland. There are so many relics, stories, photos, and things to see here. The preserved buildings are top-notch, full of furniture and personal items. You really get a profound sense of what life was like for the people who lived here. One of the houses is now a cafe with excellent coffee (is there any other kind in Iceland?) and delicious smoked fish. Highly recommended!

Really enjoyed this experience and well worth the admission. Very well kept beautiful turf homes that are all interconnected through tunnels. So neat to be able to walk through and into all the rooms. Beautiful grounds and so glad we stopped.

Very cool place to get a sense of how life used to be not so long ago in northern Iceland. The house is made of dirt, stone and peat and you can visit multiple rooms and read and see their purpose. You can visit it for a small amount and makes for a nive way to spend a couple of hours.

If you want to feel how Icelanders lived and built their houses that provided them with protection from wind, rain and snow, harsh conditions, then you must visit this open-air museum

Glaumbær Farm & Museum was a great little side stop. The admission price was 1500isk. Walking around the building, church, and graveyard takes about 30 minutes. While walking around you’ll learn exactly what everything was used for by the Vikings. I didn’t have this planned but I’m glad I stopped as I gained knowledge. If you don’t want to purchase a ticket to enter the area you can simply stop along the road and take pictures beyond the fence.

Great little museum at 1700 ISK per adult. The insides show lots of details and the café has some additional rooms to view. It was a quick 30 min stop along the route but very enjoyable.

Visited June 2021 and I highly recommend visiting here if you are in Iceland. It's really amazing to see how the Icelandic people were able to literally carve a home and business out of the earth. These sod structures and the historical items inside tell a compelling story about the resourcefulness and determination of those hearty people. Amazingly well cared for, this is a must see.

That’s a very different perspective about how life was a while ago. Turf horses, the way they were organized and connected one another, the way people lived, everything was really good

For a small museum, it is actually really well informed and still retains its atmosphere!

Very interesting site. The oldest parts of the farm are from the middle of the 18th century and people lived there until 1947. Now it is part of the Icelandic National museum. There's a lot of crafts and you can have a good idea of how people used to live in turf houses back in the day.

Love the architecture. Unfortunately I got there at 4:11pm and they had closed at 4 so couldnt do the tour they offer. Still great to go take pictures. The church is also very nice to get some amazing shots.

This is a real treat for anyone interested in the authentic life in old Iceland turf farm. Impressive details and layout. Very well maintained and explained, with staff around to answer questions. Among the best ways to appreciate how farm unit and pastors family lived. Highly recommended and great for families too.
