Kinda spooky, huh? Contrary to the belief, it is not haunted at all and has a calm and serene atmosphere. There are several tombs of well known British personalities including the famous Derozio's grave in this cemetery. There is an eerie ambience which makes it fun for trick and treating during Halloween.

Been there in the morning hours, the place is vast, but unkept. The structures are damaged need repairs, good thing I saw some repair coloring work going on in one of the structures. This place has a very unspeakable sense of peace I dont know why, maybe coz it's final resting place or I feel that way. Its not at all a sad place its a peaceful place. This was my firat visit and I like the vibe of this place. If you there to experience and take pictures Try to go on a overcast day the place will visually change drastically. Its very different on a sunny well lit sunlight filled day. The dark and gloomy experice can only be fully experienced on a heavy overcast. I might visit there when it's dark overcast this time it was sunny still liked the place.

South Park Street Cemetery, formerly known as the 'Great Christian Burial Ground', was one of the earliest non-church cemeteries in the world. The cemetery houses numerous graves and monuments belonging to British soldiers, administrators, and their families. It is also the final resting place of several prominent personalities, including Henry Louis Vivian Derozio and Sir William Jones. It is located on Mother Teresa Sarani (also known as Park Street), Central Kolkata, India.

The cemetery is considered to be an important example of colonial-era architecture, with its Gothic-style tombs and monuments, mixed with the rich flavor of the Greek, Egyptian, and Indo-Saracenic styles. In certain instances, elements from Hindu architecture and Islamic tombs have also been adopted. Many of the monuments in the cemetery are adorned with intricate carvings, sculptures, and epitaphs. The structures are primarily constructed of sandstone, marble, and bricks, and feature a variety of shapes and sizes, ranging from simple headstones to grand mausoleums.

The burial ground, along with a new road leading to it, known as the Burial Ground Road, was built in 1767. The cemetery and the road were later renamed Park Street after a private deer park established by Sir Elijah Impey. By the year 1785, the cemetery had been extended on the northern side of Park Street.

Wonderful place to visit whenever you are available.
The graveyard of Henry Louis Vivian Derozio will definitely encounter goosebumps in your body.

Henry Louis Vivian Derozio was famous for his radical movement, the Young Benga, and for setting a new precedent for patriotic poetry in India. Some of his famous works include: To India – My Native Land and The Fakeer of Jungheera.

Apart from this, the graveyard of William Jones is still holding some horror storiedn

Kolkata Cemetery, a poetic sanctuary of tranquility, where history rests beneath ancient tombstones amid serene whispers of time.

In the quiet embrace of the cemetery, beauty unfolds in a unique tapestry of memories and tranquility. A symphony of aged tombstones stands as stoic sentinels, each one a testament to lives lived and stories untold. Nature, in its gentle dance, weaves a mosaic of seasons, casting dappled sunlight through ancient trees that stand as silent witnesses to the passage of time.

Wildflowers, resilient in their defiance of solemnity, paint the landscape with hues of delicate pinks and purples. The rhythmic rustle of leaves in the breeze adds a melancholic yet comforting soundtrack to the stillness. Moss-covered statues and weathered angels, with faces softened by the passage of years, lend an ethereal grace to the sacred grounds.

As the sun dips below the horizon, the cemetery transforms into a realm of subtle illumination. Candlelight flickers softly, casting shadows that dance across memorial stones, creating an ambiance that is both haunting and serene. Nightfall brings a quietude broken only by the distant hoot of an owl or the gentle rustle of nocturnal creatures.

The beauty of the cemetery lies not just in its somberness, but in the poignant reminder it offers – a reminder to cherish the present, honor the past, and find solace in the cyclical nature of life and death. It is a sanctuary where beauty and reflection intertwine, inviting contemplation amidst the echoes of those who once walked the earthly path.

Very calm and quiet place. There are plenty of architectural designs. The mango trees are pleasure to the eyes.
There are various flowers and trees. You may get glimpses of squirrels running here and there. A nice place to sit and think or spend 2 or 3 hours.

Fan of everything spooky and haunted, visit South Park Cemetery. One of the most haunted places in India, this place is equal parts beautiful and equal parts eerie. Established in 1767, the cemetery was founded by the British and is a remnant of their architectural style. Take a walk through the cemetery during the day and you will find plenty of spots that are worth admiring.

However, by night the place is shut down and entry is prohibited because of the strange incidents that have happened in the past.

This is a peaceful place to spending time with your loved one. But sometimes a gang of drunk boys disturb the environment. You should aware of them as they can snatch your purse or money. The management is too good but they also fear from them. Otherwise the place is so beautiful, full of greenary.

One of the best place I've been to in my entire life. It's just so calm and relaxing place to to spend time. It's hundreds of Graves from 18th Centuries here. Few of very renowned person are residing there under 2Yards from surface. People would say, it's haunted or horrible place, but that's completely wrong, there's nothing like that. It's a great place. Also there are trees of Mangoes which were actually having Mangoes, so it was fruitful for me as well, lol.

But you need to visit this place, it's worth it.

The south park street cemetary located in park street was formely known as "The Great Christian Burial Ground" and is a frequently visited place in kolkata.
The place is relatively quiet and quaint, and once you get inside you would find yourself aloof from the hustle and bustle of the main city making it a great place for a leisurely stroll.
It charges 20rs. ticket per person for 2 hours while if you carry a camera it will charge you 50rs.
However in the recent times the place has lost its quite appeal as the amount of people rushing in has exceeded and it becomes quite crowded in weekends.
In my last visit have seen large groups of picnic parties sitting around the open places in circles, singing loudly and munchinv on goodies littering around.
Have also literally seen women sitting on tombs feeding babies with food and milk.
A cultural heritage should be protected and managed.
It hurts to see people making the place a picnic spot.
