View point before entering the cave is awesome and cave itself is worth to visit. Lights are not installed in every part and would recommend not to go in areas without light on your own as there is no marking on the ways to return and you may get lost your way back.

A must visit place. This place is a true gem, with the cave stealing the show and the surrounding area adding to the magic. The small trail to the cave is very beautiful. It just approximately 450 meters walking distance from gate. Ticket price is rupees 50/- per person. Two entries are there. Normal trail & one rugged road which is a little difficult, must try both. Unique, bit scary and adventurous. The entire site is a testament to careful maintenance. Don't miss out on this enchanting experience!!

Arwah cave is a relatively less popular and less explored cave system in Cherrapunji. But the stalactites and stalagmites we saw were still wet and melting unlike the dry ones we saw in Mawsmai caves. We did not spot any fossils though. Arwah can be difficult for older people to explore as the way to the caves is long although it is mostly a pleasant walk but it is a relatively long walk. There is only one entry which is the same as the exit so you return the same way you went in. Last part of the cave did not have any lights, and even in some parts where there are lights, it is helpful to use flashlights to see the way. The inside of the cave is relatively easier to explore although the lack of lights can be scary in the last part. Would recommend doing in pairs at least.

This place is a true gem, with the cave stealing the show and the surrounding area adding to the magic. The road leading to the cave is a marvel in itself, meticulously crafted to enhance the overall experience.

The entire site is a testament to careful maintenance; it's spotless and boasts picturesque views at every turn. As you explore the cave, you can't help but marvel at the fossils dating back millions of years – a humbling reminder of the brevity of our lives.

For those with a penchant for adventure, consider taking the trail instead of the road. It's not only a pleasant hike but also a journey through nature's bounty. The trail, adorned with numerous waterfalls, is a visual feast that's neither challenging nor risky.

In conclusion, this site is a must-visit for anyone seeking a perfect blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue. Whether you're drawn to the cave's wonders or the scenic trail, you're in for a treat. Don't miss out on this enchanting experience!

Nestled deep within the rugged terrain of Meghalaya lies a hidden gem waiting to be discovered—the Arwah Caves. Carved by the hands of time and nature's inexorable forces, these mystical caverns beckon adventurers and explorers to embark on a journey into the heart of the earth, where secrets of the past intertwine with the wonders of the present.

Unveiling Ancient Mysteries:

The Arwah Caves stand as silent sentinels of the earth's tumultuous history, bearing witness to the passage of millennia and the ebb and flow of civilizations. Geological formations within the caves, such as stalactites and stalagmites, serve as time capsules, preserving the story of the land's evolution with each drip of mineral-rich water.

For centuries, these subterranean passages have remained shrouded in mystery, known only to the indigenous Khasi people who regarded them as sacred sanctuaries imbued with spiritual significance. Legend has it that the caves were once used as refuge by ancient tribes, who sought solace within their labyrinthine depths during times of strife and upheaval.

A Feast for the Senses:

Entering the Arwah Caves is akin to stepping into another world—a world where darkness reigns supreme, punctuated only by the soft glow of torchlight and the occasional gleam of mineral deposits. The air is cool and damp, carrying with it the earthy scent of wet limestone and the faint whisper of distant echoes.

As adventurers venture deeper into the caverns, they are greeted by a spectacle of awe-inspiring beauty. Massive chambers open up before them, their walls adorned with intricate formations that resemble frozen waterfalls, delicate curtains, and twisted spires. The interplay of light and shadow creates an ethereal atmosphere, casting surreal patterns on the cave walls and ceiling.

Echoes of the Past:

The Arwah Caves bear witness to the passage of time, their silent halls echoing with the whispers of ancient civilizations and forgotten tales. In some chambers, petroglyphs and cave paintings offer glimpses into the lives of those who once called these caverns home, depicting scenes of hunting, rituals, and daily life.

One cannot help but feel a sense of reverence and awe in the presence of such ancient artifacts, pondering the stories they tell and the mysteries they conceal. Each stroke of pigment is a testament to humanity's enduring quest for meaning and connection, transcending the boundaries of time and space.

An Adventure of Discovery:

Exploring the Arwah Caves is a journey of discovery—a voyage into the unknown where every twist and turn reveals new wonders waiting to be uncovered. From narrow passageways that wind their way through the rock to expansive chambers that stretch into the darkness, the caves offer an endless array of surprises and delights for intrepid explorers.

As visitors navigate the labyrinthine maze of passages, they are rewarded with breathtaking vistas and hidden alcoves that seem to defy logic and imagination. Underground rivers gurgle and flow, carving out intricate channels and caverns that glisten with moisture and life. Bats flit overhead, their wings brushing against the cool air as they search for shelter in the cavern's recesses.

A Sanctuary for the Soul:

Despite their inherent darkness and mystery, the Arwah Caves exude a sense of tranquility and serenity that is both palpable and profound. In the heart of the earth, far removed from the chaos and clamor of the world above, visitors find solace in the quietude of their surroundings, forging a deep connection with the natural world and the forces that shape it.

For generations, the caves have served as sanctuaries for spiritual seekers and contemplative souls, offering a refuge from the distractions of everyday life and a space for introspection and renewal. In the cool embrace of the earth, amidst the ancient stones and timeless echoes, one cannot help but feel a sense of kinship with the land and a reverence for the mysteries that lie beneath.

While the caves themselves aren't too admirable, the trail you take towards the caves is awesome. You'll walk at a board that gives you the option of taking the normal route or the rugged terrain and I highly recommend you take the rugged terrain. You'll love the 20 min trek. Walk inside the cave for 10 mins and you can walk right back as the same cave continues deep inside.

The entrance to Arwah Cave is straight out of the Arabian Nights, a large sunken chamber that leads to a complex set of caverns. Arwah cave is of Meghalaya’s most famous caves and is pretty accessible to regular visitors. It is famous for its fossils which you can observe in the lit-up interiors, especially towards the end of the cave. You will find crustacean shells and fish bones fossilized in the limestone walls of the cave.

Arwah, apart from being a place for enthusiasts of natural history, will also surprise you with its many turns and corners – a maze where you are walking one minute under a high cave ceiling, and sliding the next minute through a narrow passageway that leads to other sections. The underwater streams have continued to flow through these ancient cave formations for millennia.

The walk to Arwah Cave is a very picturesque one – an enchanting path that has been aesthetically carved out of the thick vegetation. At one point, the pathway passes through the side of the Lawshynna Hill giving you amazing views of the waterfall and the surrounding valley. There is a seating area close to the path where you can relax and get spending views.

Arwah cave is darker and less crowded than Mawsmai Cave. It's also spacious than Mawsmai which is very confining at places. You can actually exit the cave in Mawsmai, but there is no exit in Arwah Cave, you have to come back the same way you came in.

Cave entry is opened at 09:30 AM and allowed till 05:30 PM. Entry fee to the cave is Rs. 20 for Adults, Rs. 10 for Children.

Situated in Sohra vilage of Chirapunji. The roads are not soo good till the entry, manageable with four wheeler. We need to pay 50Rs per head at the entrance. There are two routes which leads for he cave, one is rugged routes and another one is clean and plain straight route. The hiking enthusiasts can take rugged routes for additional adventure.
There is a view point on the way to arwah cave, since it was on Feb we could not witness any falls. At the entrance you can see the article on fossile/ lime stone found inside the cave. It takes approximately 15-20min one way to cover the complete cave.
We can easily spend 1hr at this cave.

If you are in Cherrapunji, then apart from Mawsmai you can cover these caves. There are 2 pathways to reach the caves, one is the easier and smoother route and another is via a trek which is comparatively steep but adventurous. The caves are long and it takes around 1 hour to cover the entire caves along with the trek. There is a restaurant at the start of the caves with a very few options to eat so don’t just rely on the food here although the coffee ☕ was good!
