NohKaLikai Falls

The view of Nohkalikai falls was absolutely amazing even on a foggy day. The falls look magnificent even from a distance. There's a trekking route that goes to the top of the falls and also apparently there is a route down to the pool. But we were a family so we did not explore these routes. The view itself was quite satisfying.

Nice location with a plenty of open space for parking and having a quick picnic with family. You’ll get a nice view of the waterfall from the front. You can buy food and some local handicrafts if you’re interested. The road from Shillong was okay and much better compared to the one that goes to Dawki which was terrible 😞

The view of the falls is beautiful 😍 and there is trek via which you can enjoy the direct falls of the water.

The tragic tale behind the name tells the story of a Khasi damsel called Likai who lived in the village of Rangjyrteh upstream of the waterfall. Widowed with a young daughter, Likai remarried in the hopes of providing a father figure for her child.

One of the most popular waterfalls of Meghalaya. There is also a very small village with very little population. Actually the waterfall is quite away from the viewpoint. We tried to go to the bottom of this falls. There is an abandoned staircase and we used that. But after sometimes we found there is no road and the staircase is finished but the bottom was far away from there...

Located 7 kms from Cherrapunji and takes about 20-30 min to reach there. There’s an entry ticket of ₹50 per person. The falls is visible from the view point. We visited in the month of march. There’s a board nearby saying way to base of waterfalls with stairs leading down. As we love to explore we took the stairs down but after some point there are no stairs. Its a jungle and there’s no proper pathway. The transparent blue water was something that I had never seen in India.
There were also small food stalls and shops, though not many tourists. The place also has a nice signboard that describes Cherapunjee as 'one of the world's rainiest places.'
This falls is really quite spectacular and a real feast for the eye, when they are in full flow.

The Nokalikai falls- named after the kashi women "kalikai" who jumped into the falls out terror after unknowingly eating the cooked meat of her own son,prepared by her late husband (as he couldn't tolerate her child). No one had ever thought that such a majestic falls can have such a dark story to tell. Apart from the shivering story, the magnificent falls is blissful and amazing. Sometimes the clouds will try to make a fool of you,by covering the mesmerizing falls like a veil,but if you wait for a few seconds soon your eyes will be able to witness the beautiful falls. An entry fee is required and if you want, you can trek to the bottom layer. It's a wonderful place which should be visited once in a life-time.

Though the place is heavenly there is a tragic story behind this place. This fall was named after a indigenous woman whose son was murdered by her second husband and the kids stepfather. She couldn't save her son so she commited suicide jumping from this very fall. To honour her sacrifice this fall was named after her.

Amazing. In simple words it seems to Factory of Clouds. It seems clouds are regularly generated from here. At some point of time view will be clear and within seconds everything will be under cloud cover. Approach road is risky if heavy clouds are there. Maggie points are always there at hilly areas. Parking is limited. Overall a nice place to visit.
