We still intended to go even though it was closed and no one was in the area. A few more tourists joined us along the way. You could find it a bit difficult to trek because of the poor maintenance, since the wooden steps were a little shaky and no proper support was there in a few places. Nevertheless, we arrived at the stunning three-tiered waterfalls after over 35 minutes of descent. The water was crystal clear. I'll advise going if you're in good shape and are wearing comfy shoes.

The fall is situated some 60 km southwest of Shillong in East Khasi Hills district and is in close proximity to another major waterfall, Dainthlen Falls. The name Wei Sawdong derives from the Khasi language (wei - resembling a pool, sawdong - square-shaped), spoken locally.

Wei Sawdong is difficult to access, and the trek to the waterfall is along an out-and-back trail and challenging. The falls are especially known for their bluish-green, crystal-clear water.

Make Wei-Sawdong Falls your last stop for the day. This is a stunning three-tiered waterfall downstream of Dainthlen that requires a short but memorable descent.

Spend the rest of your day (make sure you catch some grub on the highway) exploring these beautiful waterfalls and the terrain around them. Time your drive back to the main route with the sunset – the twilight hues in this open, stream-lined landscape can be mesmerising.

Definitely a must visit place if you are in Meghalaya. Currently it's closed due to some conflicts and they have even sabotaged the route to the waterfall to ensure no one visits this. Hopefully it should open soon.

Majestic and heavenly!!!
Wei Sawdong Falls is a three-tiered waterfall located in Cherrapunji, Meghalaya.

At first, you’ll encounter very steep steps made entirely with bamboo, logs and stone. At some points, you’ll even get ladders. Some of the steps here are muddy and can be slippery if it rained recently. You might even have to cross a few boulders. If you’re with a guide, the trek can be much simpler for you.

The locals have made the way simpler for travellers to get there. You need to make sure you’re wearing proper anti-skid trekking shoes to take this route.

While you’re still mid-way, you’ll get an aerial view of the waterfall at first. This is the point from where you can see all the 3 levels of the waterfall. As you proceed closer, the sound of the waterfall gets louder and louder. In the quiet and peaceful woods, this is the only sound you’ll be hearing.

Once you arrive at the foot of these waterfalls, you can enjoy your time taking pictures and dipping your feet into the water. The 20-minute risk you take is completely worth it when you arrive at a destination that is so heavenly.

The Wei Sawdong Waterfalls in Meghalaya are one of a kind. You’ll see plenty of waterfalls in Meghalaya but none of them will resemble these.

One of the mesmerising waterfalls in meghalaya. You will be stunned seeing the view of this three cases falls. Crystal clear tinted emerald shade water. But this view also has it own beauty. I sat there for couples of hours & didn't feel like leaving. You have to trek down to reach this falls. The important thing to know here is, the trek to reach this waterfall is not tough but it's very tiring especially while coming back. It surely takes effort to be able to experience this mesmerising beauty. The stones are slippery, so please be careful when you are at the waterfall. A must visit place in Cherrapunji.

Dec 2023: Closed due to a dispute until further notice, but one of the best falls in meghalaya.

Steps going down take you to a fork, the left one takes you to the view point and the one on the right would take you to the bottom of the falls.
Pictures are from my first visit in 2021.

This was my second visit to Wei Sawdong falls today, but sadly this falls has been closed by the local police due to some land disputes, that the local passersby informed. This is a breath taking piece of nature, where the water cascades over four layers and totally enchants you.

Running out of words to detail out the waterfall in Cherrapunji.

It is waterfall 🏃‍♀ in Cherrapunji.

And definitely picture does not do any justices

Probably the first layered waterfall I have witnessed. We visited it almost at the end of the trip by then we were completely exhausted after the double decker trek. But the tour guide was insisting it worth it . So trusted him

As said it was worth and one of the unique waterfall I have seen .

Meghalaya and Cherrapunji is very much under rated place.

This is one of the best waterfalls I have experienced so far! Its beauty is on a different level. The camera lens can't do justice to the view. The water was so clean and cold. We sat there for a good amount of time and didn't feel like leaving.

The important thing to know here is, the trek to reach this waterfall is not tough but it's very tiring especially while coming back. It surely takes effort to be able to experience this mesmerising beauty. The stones are slippery, so please be careful when you are at the waterfall.

Enjoy responsibly and please do not litter!

A must visit place in Meghalaya. You can experience another level of scenery here. The waterfall is that much good. We need to trek for 10 minutes to reach the falls. It will be slightly dangerous, but everyone can trek down and trek up. Before reaching the falls, there is a view point of the falls. Don't forget to go there. After reaching the falls, you can swim in the fresh water. Rest well. Mostly crowded on weekends. The best time to visit is after August. Parking space is there. Ticket of ₹20 for bikes, ₹30 for light four wheelers and ₹50 for heavy vehicles. No entrance fee but you can put some donations for the cleaning process on the premises.

It's simply breathtaking. The trek downwards takes about 30-45min. The terrain is quite rugged and raw after a point. Definitely advisable to wear suitable clothing and trekking footwear. The hardship would all be worth once you reach. Mid way another path leads to the Wei saw dong falls viewpoint. Would recommend if there's enough time and energy at your disposal. This is simply a must visit.
One of the best waterfalls of Meghalaya. It would take some of your effort and energy to reach the base of the waterfall but once you reach there it will amaze you with its beauty. Three layers of falls which look like three pots from the waterfall viewpoint. If you are not willing to go to the base you can go to the viewpoint and have the amazing view and take snaps. Just superb and fantastic. Wooden stairs and a little bit of difficulty to reach the base but it is certainly worth it and just amazing.

This is a nice fall with more than 500 steps trekking. It's good for adventure people who can treak. It's not that safe for old-age people also kid's should be taken with proper guidance and care. Good to take bath there. Humble request to who ever visited don't litter the place with the food plastics and the cold drink bottles. After use please carry them back and trush in bins

One of the best waterfalls to visit in meghalaya. The way to the waterfall is serene and between barren lands. The trek is not cumbersome but on the bamboo sticks to the waterfall one has to be extremely careful. After you get down it's one of the beautiful sights. Make sure to climb up to the first tier of the falls. There is a natural pool of water and if you know swimming it is Paradise.

The falls are located in a valley. It is quite a difficult trek to the falls from the main road. It is a small distance, but very steep. One can easily make it to the falls view point. After the view point the path turns into wooden ladders which you have to go down to reach the water.

The waterfall is a breathtaking creation. It is a must visit if you are visiting Cherrapunji. People are allowed to bathe provided the water level is not too dangerous.

(People are not permitted to trek beyond the view point in monsoon.)

Wei sawdong is three layer & most beautiful waterfall. Trek is difficult, tricky & adventures so avoid to go with children. Half of the way concrete stairs & other half bamboo stair. Its take about 30 minutes to reach waterfall. Car parking is nominal charges. Entry ticket is not there but donation box so you can donate. Its natural water pool & you can swim/bath over there. Suggest to carry extra clothes & towel but there is no changing room over there. Its beautiful crystal clear & blue water which you fall in love with this view.

Wei Sawdong is the most beautiful and pristine waterfall in Meghalaya. You need to climb down through stone steps and bamboo ladders to get to the base of the waterfall. During rainy season the bamboo ladders can be quiet slippery. There is also a view point from where you get to see all the 3 layers of the waterfall. You get the best view of the waterfall from this view point. The climb down is steep and you need to be very careful. After you get down it's one of the beautiful sights. It is a natural pool of water and if you know swimming it will be as if swimming in Paradise. Currently swimming is allowed. If you want to get into the water it’s best to carry extra clothes and towel. There is no changing room though. Car parking is by the road side and there is a nominal parking fee. Also if you go further on the road there is a proper car parking space

One of the mesmerising waterfalls of meghalaya!! You will be stunned seeing the view of this three layered falls. When I reached this place the water wasn’t clear since it had rained a day before, if there is no rain then the water will be crystal clear and blue. But this view also has it own beauty. You have to trek down to reach this falls

It is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Meghalaya. There is a short trek leading upto it. Half of the way there are concrete stairs and the other half has bamboo logs laid on the way. There is no entry fees but they do accept donations. The trek takes about 30 minutes and it is totally worth the view. We went in February so the falls was not overflowing with water but it was breathtaking nonetheless. In the rainy season since the roads become slippery and the waterfall is overflowing it can be a little risky. Also the blue colour of the water is more prominent in the winter months. Overall a must visit place. Very beautiful.

Beautiful waterfalls in tiers!! We went in a season when there is not a lot of water.. the place maintained its charm nevertheless..

The trek is adventurous as it involves navigating some make shift ladders and rugged stone path.. the place down at the waterfalls is serene and is absolutely lovely!
