Wow what a gem!!
It's a really nice cafe with delicious drinks and a wonderful atmosphere. The Cafe closes at 10:00 p.m. and the staff member tonight was absolutely lovely, very friendly and welcoming.

My only suggestion is for guests to buy more drinks if they plan on working on their laptops for ages.

This place has the perfect vibe for either reading over some coffee or having a catch-up with friends

I loved this place. It's a quaint little cafe with great aesthetics that keeps up with the atmosphere of Edinburgh. The food was really good and especially my Nutella hot chocolate. Highly recommend this place for breakfast or brunch or just a takeaway coffee :)

Great service, friendly and helpful, I wasn't sure what to go for and asked the person to pick a chutney for me and she did a fantastic job, it was delicious and probably saved my very bland choices! I was having an anxious morning and couldn't have asked for a calmer or more welcoming place. 100% worth a visit

This café might be the closest thing to heaven on earth. We came in to songs by Hozier playing, were greeted by wonderful smells of food and tea, people happily reading and discussing books. We got open face toasts, with chutney and pesto and they were absolutely delicious. Same with tea. You can see that attention was paid to the smallest detail, because even the cups and saucers were excellent, locally made, and elevate the lovely, homely atmosphere of the café. Goes without saying that the service was excellent as well. Thank you so much- we will definitely be back.

A very cute and cosy cafe! There’s this warm glow over the cafe, and piles of chopped wood in one corner and a reading nook in another.
I got the gingerbread latte with oat milk, which is one of the winter specials, and it was delightful. A much needed treat. There’s wifi so I got to study as well. They also do a Nutella hot chocolate which I feel like Edinburgh is quite deprived of.

Lovely cafe, great coffee, would recommend

Really great place for a calm easy going morning! Got the Nutella mocha and almond croissant and did not regret it. Price is fantastic for what you get—hard to beat in the area!

A new coffee haunt I’ve discovered at the recommendation of a friend. It’s a lovely, cozy little place with welcoming staff and plenty of space, which you might not realise from the exterior. A bit of a TARDIS situation in that way. Its biggest asset is that it’s open until 10pm, which is perfect for nocturnal people who might not feel safe alone in a pub / bar at night, so it’s a great place to come to read / write / hang out when everything else is closed and you want to get out of the house. I visited on a Saturday night and it was peaceful but not empty. Highly recommend

Cosy cafe, great place to catch up with some friends.

We liked their nutella mocha and smashed avocado with chilli, would have nice to have a fried egg on top though!

I comer a friend for coffee here and it was perfect! I have walked past many times but never been in - but that is set to change. The interior of the cafe is beautifully adorned with wooden furniture, armchairs, old bookcases and a cosy winter feeling as if you are in a ski lodge in Scandinavia. The atmosphere was relaxed and perfect for a catch up with friends, but also quiet enough to get work done on a laptop of you wanted to. Service was very friendly and the coffee - I had a latte - was warm, smooth and creamy with chocolatey tones and a lovely artistic design in the foam. Will definitely be back for more 🩵☕

I visited last week and ordered a white mocha, by far the best I’ve ever had :)
The cafe has a lovely relaxed atmosphere with a variety of seating, great for if you’re catching up with friends, reading, or getting some light work done.
There’s also a 10% student discount which is great!

This place has been my go-to coffee place/ breakfast book/ comfort zone while in vacation in Edinburgh. The staff are super friendly and welcoming, the smashed avocado toast (see photo) is to die for, and the coffee is spot on. If you get lucky one of two soft leather armchairs might be available, the best seat in Edinburgh! The books are for reading, not for sale, unfortunately.

I have always walked past this cafe but today I decided to try out a variety of items in their menu. Long story short: best cafe in Edinburgh ever!

I‘ve been going from cafe to cafe testing out different coffees from different places and I must admit that BooksnCup serves one of the best coffees I‘ve ever had. Their beans come from Machina (plus points for supporting local businesses), and the coffee itself is just the perfect blend. (They even had packs of shortbreads and biscuits to go with the coffee)They also offer nondairy alternatives, giving me the best oat flat white I‘ve had in a while.

Apart from amazing coffee, BooksnCup also offers a variety of non-caffeinated drinks. Apart from their decaf beans, they even have options for hot chocolate: regular, white hot choc, and a Nutella one! Having a bit of a sweet tooth myself, I had to try the Nutella and let me tell you, it was just amazing. The barista was really helpful in making sure I got the level of sweetness I wanted, and she really made me feel like I was getting taken care of (which was deeply appreciated).

As for the food options, the cafe offers a selection of toasties and toasts.I opted for what I thought was the easiest option, the pesto cheese and tomato toast. To my surprise, I was asked to pick out what kind of cheese I wanted. I quite honestly am not an expert on cheese myself but again, the barista was extremely helpful in helping me decide which one to take, asking me about my preferences in flavour profiles and describing each cheese to me. I surely would not have been able to decide myself, considering they have a wide selection including Stilton, Manchego, Mature Cheddar, Gruyère, Brie and even vegan cheese! (Don‘t even get me started on their Raclette wheel!) The toasted sourdough was perfectly done, with the cheese perfectly melted as well. I also decided to add a small side salad with lettuce, rocket and red pepper with a tasty balsamic vinegar and olive oil dressing and I was stuffed.

When it came to desserts I found that I felt even more indecisive than I did for my toastie. There were so many to choose from! All their pastries looked amazing but I decided to end my meal with their delicious carrot cake. It was very creamy but perfectly sweet and despite being so full I just wanted more! Despite the absolute feast, I only paid £17.68 which is amazing for how much I was given.

After my meal I decided to enjoy my desserts on one of the gorgeous leather couches at the back. The vibes inside were adorable and cozy. Great tunes were playing and I just felt so relaxed and at home. They had multiple vintage books at the back of which I took the liberty to read and enjoy.

In short, I could not love this place any more. Not only was the barista super friendly and helpful, the whole place was just gorgeous and my food and drinks were very very good. On top of that, it closes at 10pm!!

I truly recommend BooksnCup, I will definitely be back!

Absolutely love a visit to Books n Cups due to how friendly and efficient the staff are, the food and coffee being amazing alongside a chilled out and relaxed atmosphere!
However, over the last couple of visits made I've found it extremely challenging to get a seat. As a student myself, I love being able to come here to study and enjoy some good coffee but I would never think to stay for over an hour as I'm aware this is an independent business that depends on business and a constant influx of customers. However, due to customers staying for hours at a time, this has led to me struggling to get a seat at multiple occasions now.
It might be good to put in a time limit policy just to guarantee more people will be able to get a seat while also maintaining their regular status'!
