South London Gallery Fire Station

Differently from its sister South London Gallery across the road, this gallery has a more intimate feeling to its space, divided into a few rooms across the floors... The exhibitions are then here of a different scale and nature, and not often in conversation with those at SLG, offering a diverse artistic experience and transport... Instead of branches of the same gallery, I've come to think of them as autonomous spaces.

Very good contemporary art gallery on Peckham Road opened in 2018 as an annexe to the South London Gallery main site about 100m away.

The Grade II listed building dates from 1867 and is the earliest surviving example of a purpose-built fire station in London.

The Fire Station is a mixed-use building over four floors comprising gallery spaces, an archive room, artists’ studio, kitchen and terrace, combined with community and education facilities.

Most recently, we visited the annual Bloomberg New Contemporaries exhibition which has now closed but is always worth a visit.

Love this gallery, love the building! Make sure you visit if you are in the area.

A brilliant extension to the SLG project. The conversation of the station is thoughtfully done. The space is bright, quirky and sympathetic to the works within.

There is a always a lively programme of educational and community projects taking place, and the staff are wonderfully charming, interested and engaged in the work. Still my favourite gallery in London.

Nice gallery to visit for free, first time going there after living in South London for more than 10 years.

A beautiful, calm and friendly space. Excellent safe-guarding practice and friendly, welcoming staff. The bookshop has a very well thought out selection.
The cafe and garden at the rear are very pleasant but the prices are a bit over-the-top even if the coffee is delicious and the food tasty.

A lovely space, great for children! I went for the LAGOS PECKHAM REPEAT exhibition and it was amazing.
