Jedburgh is a very beautiful small city. The Abbey is on the top of the hill. It's so big and unique. Couldn't visit it but I will go back. Another place to go.

Great place to visit.
Take a picnic if the weather is good.
The main Abbey is still closed but you can still wander around and take in the history.
Look out for the alleged location of King Bruce's heart.
The graveyard is fascinating and gives you some fantastic views of the Gargoyles and Grotesques of the Abbey.

The gentleman who was on duty today was very informative and a lovely man.
I enjoyed wandering round today as we got a break in the rain. I'm sorry I couldn't access some of the areas a I love capturing where I've been. The inside of the Abbey would have made for amazing photos.

A very fine historic experience with a great audio guide and visitor center. The staff was super helpful and helped us a lot in deciding which membership to buy for all the Scottish sights. The only drawback is that you cannot enter the abbey due to structural integrity issues, but then they charge half price.

Jedburgh Abbey is a historic abbey located in the town of Jedburgh, in the Scottish Borders region of Scotland. It is one of the most remarkable medieval abbeys in the country. The abbey was founded in the 12th century and served as a priory for Augustinian monks.
Jedburgh Abbey features stunning architecture, characterized by a mix of Romanesque and Gothic styles. Its grandeur can still be appreciated today, despite being partially ruined. The abbey's intricate stone carvings and delicate rose windows are particularly noteworthy.
The abbey holds significant historical importance, having been involved in several conflicts between Scotland and England over the centuries. It suffered damage during wars and was partially destroyed during the Reformation in the 16th century.
Visiting Jedburgh Abbey offers a glimpse into Scotland's rich history and architectural heritage. You can explore the ruins, stroll through the peaceful grounds, and learn about the abbey's past through informative displays and exhibits. It's a captivating destination for history enthusiasts and those interested in ancient religious sites.
Please note that during my visit inside abbey grounds were closed It's always a good idea to check for the latest information before planning a visit.
Ticket cost roughly 4£ if you want to include donations, you’ll get mobile electronic guide with great voice commentaries
Highly recommended 👍

What a fantastic site to visit on a sunny day. Parked in the free car park just down from the abbey with the beautiful river in-between. No queue so straight into the abbey, the staff were brilliant/ very friendly/ knowledgeable and gave us ideas where else in jedburgh to visit. The abbey building itself is out of bounds just now as are so many historic Scotland sites but there is still a good size part of the site open as well as the small museum/exhibit inside the main building.

A beautiful old abbey worth visiting, there's a fairly cheap entry fee but you get nice views from the outside too.

It's mainly ruins and foundations - the abbey itself and the graveyard is currently closed due to restoration works. But what's visible is still fascinating and well presented. Particularly liked the old drainage system that's still visible and well made signage. Very fairly priced for what it is too. Less overrun and the free Jedburgh Castle Jail just 3 minutes up the road!

A beautiful and quiet place to visit. No tourists and easy to access. Bear in mind current construction or reno going on in the main building so access is not permitted to the main abbey building.

The Abbey is closed due to 'falling masonry (as has Kelso Abbey for a number of years now), though a grounds maintenance team managed to cut the grass with no trouble. I understand there's still a charge for entry reduced by 50%- check the Historic Scotland website for current prices-which will let you in to the medieval cemetery and the Abbey environs. It's still an impressive ruin even without a roof, doors or windows, heavy with the hand of time.

Lovely old building, we couldn't go all around because of falling masonry. The staff very helpful and knowledgeable.

Always loved Jedburgh Abbey when coming around the bend into Jedburgh and seeing it on the hill. First time visiting and it was decent. Shame the Abbey itself is actually closed due to a risk of falling stonework.
Plenty still to look at and photograph though with some nice views.
The girls in the shop were very friendly and helpful.
Visit recommended especially if you have heritage Scotland memberships.

A beautiful historic site. Cheap to enter, a lovely walk round and even a small centre for information about the site.

Absolutely wonderful place, the Abbey itself was cordoned off on our visit as a safety procedure, but we were able to access the other parts of the site

Nice and peaceful setting to spend a few hours. The grounds are well maintained and lots of information boards around to explain what all the parts are. Well set out for social distancing.
