A place of absolute beauty and solitude! Some very interesting graves and very well landscaped.
The place is in disrepair BUT that’s what makes a beautiful cemetery! I mean the dead don’t care!! Only the selfish living.

Will be back as it’s huge and lots of explore! Many overgrown stones and tombs but again, this adds to the character.

Great place for beer and contemplation.

Enjoy life

Can spend hours here wandering among the many graves in this Pere Lachaise-inspired cemetery. A mix of everything from simple stones and monuments to impressive Egyptianate sarcophagi and huge family tombs. Continues to be a functioning cemetery, so history on offer stretches from 1830s to present day. Babbage, Blondin, Brunel, Wilkie Collins, Grossmith, Pinter, Rattigan, Siemens, Thackeray, Trollope, Waterhouse... Catacombs closed, sadly. Note that there’s currently only one entrance/exit open (I ended up walking the entire perimeter trying to get in!)

Given the age and size of Kensal Green Cemetery, it is in amazing condition - it's clearly being well cared for. It's a lovely place for people like me who find it peaceful to saunter around the graveyard, and it's particularly interesting historically. The graves of Annabella Milbanke (note: her name was misspelled on her own grave!) and Hobhouse are particularly interesting to this Byron fan.

A good stroll and an enjoyable day out. The rather open layout and surrounding buildings made it feel more spacious than similar places. There is good amount of green and an interesting varierty of tombs and monuments.
The staff on the day I visited was very friendly and helpful as well.

This is a truly amazing place and a great location to just walk around as you visit the graves of many famous figures from bygone days. It is not a small cemetery and so to make good on your time you can get a guidebook from the cemetery office, located just inside the gates and then plan your visit accordingly. Victorian novelist William Makepeace Thackeray is buried here as are many of the friends of the author Charles Dickens. Indeed, one of the most poignant graves is that of Mary Hogarth who was Dickens beloved sister in law whose death in 1837, aged just seventeen years old had a profound effect on the author. He paid for this grave and he also composed the epitaph on the tombstone. You can easily spend a good two or three hours here and the tours of the catacombs, which are done on specific days of the month are not to be missed. Be warned, there's not a lot here, or nearby, by way of refreshment so you'll need to bring a packed lunch if you are intending to make a day of it.

Enjoyed my walk through here. I remember it was very important not to miss the gates being locked at closing time lest you spend the night.

Hi my name is Suzanne Louise Wimbledon and i am giving this cemetery 5 stars as the plot where my family are burried is absolutely spotless and so is the whole cemetery.

You could not ask to be burried anywhere else it is so peaceful and relaxing there you would want to be burried there yourselves.

Merry Christmas and a happy new year

keep up the good work next year as well like the visitors know you will do.

Beautiful place to visit, particularly on a glum autumnal day. Quiet (as you'd expect!), clean, beat and sombre (befitting if it's purpose). Great for photography (atmospherics). Worth checking out if you're into / looking for great photographic opportunities 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿

"For there is good news yet to hear & fine things to be seen, before we go to paradise by way of Kensal Green". By GK Chesterton.
The first of the mahoosive commercial cemeteries opened in London. Recorded in the Penny Magazine as "The first practical attempt to remedy a great public inconvenience". In 1833 out of the 54acres 39acres were consecrated leaving the remaining 15acres for nonconformists.
It has mahoosive Doric arched entrance with 3 avenues. The central avenue has an Anglican Church with Doric porch and flanking colonnades. Beneath which lie mahoosive catacombs. At the East is an Ionic nonconformist Chapel and under the North walled colonnades are more catacombs.
George 3rd's children are buried here. Along with Isambard Brunel elder and younger and the elder's wife Sonia. Thackeray, Anthony Trollope, Wilkie Collins, Charles Blondin, Joseph Locke and Harold Pinter to name a few of the many famous laid to rest here.
It is very beautiful and atmospheric. Take a picnic and a camera!
Purposefully left to overgrow so wild flowers can seed and wildlife thrive. The overall result is aesthetically pleasing.
Nearest station is Kensal Rise. In close proximity to Ladbroke Grove.

Is the cemetery open now or is it still closed?
The government said that they were allowed to open for certain hours.
