Just visiting London for a week and really glad we found this place. My husband and I enjoyed the fish and chips and the pie with mash. The quality of the pie and the fish was so pleasing, the first bite was met with a kind of joy that makes me close my eyes and tear up when I eat food this good. The atmosphere and the service was the perfect pub experience. A true highlight of our trip. We will definitely be back again.

We were extremely impressed by this English pup!

Weekday lunch experience:

First of all, it’s the best place to try traditional, authentic English food (we were tourists from the U.S.) We ordered the fish & chips and the shepherds pie and they were so delicious! The shepherds’s pie is a must-try dish, it’s incredibly flavourful and full of tenderly-cooked lamb shanks. I think this was my favorite.

Second, the atmosphere is good. If you want to check out a traditional English bar where you will see aged staircases, old paintings and wood floorings, that’s the place. However, the place is very well maintained and extremely clean! We were there for lunch hour on a weekday; the restaurant wasn’t busy and we almost had the whole second floor to ourselves. While drinking beer, eating fish and chips and the pies and chatting with a local friend, we looked at the people on the street from the window, and understood why this place has inspired so many artists and poets in the past decades (and maybe centuries).

Finally, the beloved staff Victoria is so nice and friendly, we felt her the hospitality!

Last but not least (sorry I have too much to say), the bathroom is surprisingly clean and has concluded my trip to the restaurant.

You ever just pick a pub at random only to find out it was your favorite author's favorite pub?

Serious note if you haven't read George Orwell's Down and put in Paris and London, you are in for a treat. As glorious as the pies here. Seriously these were amazing.

Okay that's all. Go there

What a find! Quiet small room upstairs of the pub. We had a lovely view out a bay window. We ordered scotch eggs, chicken mushroom pie, and short rib and brisket pie. All was so tasty! Kind and efficient waiter. Would definitely eat here again.

One of the best traditional pubs! Nice food and a lot of drinks. Prices are fair. I like it a lot. Not to forget, try the Black Angus pie! 🥧 It is superb!

I booked a table for lunch today and I'm so glad I did. This charming little pub was clearly one to visit and seemed popular with others.

The food was lovely, fresh and piping hot. The service was excellent and we loved the atmosphere. Our server was a lovely, funny Irish lady who had an excellent rapport with everyone in the restaurant and brightened our day!

Cannot recommend this little gem enough!! It's definitely one to visit.

Very good Soho Nicholson's pub on the corner of Bateman Street and Frith Street. Five cask beers - and one cider - on handpump when I last visited. Lots of covered standing room outside.

The Dog and Duck has been identified by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA}) as having a nationally important historic pub interior. It has some great advertising mirrors and lovely tile work.

Very busy when we visited but quick service made it manageable.

Very good restaurant which is still quite small with only about fifteen chairs. It is better to book your table in advance but personally luck allowed us to find a table of 5 free on a thursday evening. I highly recommend the "STEAK & NICHOLSON'S PALE ALE PIE". It could also be that the atmosphere is noisy as the bar downstairs is a source of a lot of noise.

This is a wonderful pub, full of character and very cosy.
I ate upstairs in the small dining room where there is also a bar.
I'll definitely drink here again.

Lovely little English pub with excellent service and brilliant food. The waitress Bernie, managed the whole dining area on her own and appeared to be a favourite with all of the customers. I would definitely recommend and will absolutely return!

Having only one day in London, I wanted a pub experience. This place was perfect! The food, beers, and atmosphere were excellent! My friend and I both got the fish and chips (cliche, I know), but it was so delightful. Couldn't have asked for anything better on a rainy London afternoon. Pop on by!

Great service, lovely dining area, like that it has its own bar so feels like part of the pub. Food was really tasty we had sharing plates. The beef loaded chips were delicious! We had a drink in the main bar area afterwards too

❤ Great things come in small packages.
.
The Dog & Duck is nestled on the corner of Bateman Street and Frith Street in the heart of Soho. The nearest tube is Tottenham Court Road.
.
This pub was built in 1897 and has had some notable punters over the the years. Painter John Constable and writer George Orwell have both frequented this establishment.
.
This is a tiny pub that really packs a punch. The decor here is outstanding, this pub oozes all things Victoriana. The Victorian tiles are simply stunning and can be seen all around the walls. The etched mirrors are beautifully detailed and give the bar area a sense of space. The servery is clad in mahogany panels and across the ceiling are brass chandeliers to complete the look and feel of this traditional boozer. Upstairs is a dining room for those in need of sustenance. Gents, if you need to spend a penny be sure to bring your Bear Grylls game, the stairs to the toilet are very steep.
.
The beer choice here was good, this pub is Cask Marque accredited and has five real ales to choose from. I opted for a pint of Amstel, my pint was enjoyable and price point was good considering the area. There is a hearty pub grub menu on offer, Fish & Chips costs £15.50.
.
There was a cracking atmosphere in this @nicholsonspubs , I arrived around 4pm on a Tuesday and the pub was packed with a couple of regulars, opportunist passers by plus those imbibing outside. The service was also good and efficient.
.
This was my first visit to the @dogandduck_soho18 and I absolutely loved it. The decor here is simply marvellous and I found myself gazing around taking it all in. The beer and food were on point and you won’t be taken to the cleaners. If you are going for a wander around Soho, put this place on your must visit list.

An amazing soho pub. Standing outside or sitting inside, both are great choices. A pint of hazy ale and a double Hendricks with tonic was £20, not cheap but standard for the pubs in soho. Has a few other pubs and cool restaurants and bars on the doorstep too.

I love this pub. A really unique soho gem. The staff are always friendly and professional. Viktoria is a real standout. Despite being relatively new to the industry, she's a total natural. She'll go very far in the industry if she wants to.....
