Love this pub from Castle Rock. Excellent selection of beers. The sessional pale ale was particularly nice on this trip. Staff always friendly and helpful. Historical interior as located in a former bakery.

We turned up early evening on Friday. They had a good system where the booked tables had signs on with the time and so we could sit at one that wasn't booked until 2 hours later. It was easy to order and pay at the bar. The staff are friendly, the service was good, we didn't have to wait long for the meal. We read the left lion which is available free. The atmosphere was buzzing, family friendly, group meals. All welcome.

Had a lovely meal here. Staff really friendly, great atmosphere and a magnificent selection of beers 🍻.

This was my first visit to The Bread & Bitter, what a great pub. It was busy with a good atmosphere. The beer was well kept & I have to admit Castle Rock beers are one of my favourite. Well worth a visit

Great traditional pub with a large range of beers. Has a outdoor seating area. Lots of old brewery related items on display, old ovens still present showing buildings past. Beers are excellent as is food. Great venue for meeting up with people. Clean toilets. Nice bar and friendly staff. Great food, Black and Blue burger is particularly tasty. Visited again to catch up with friends and had the Black and Blue burger again. Very tasty and filling.

Decent, straight forward pub. Interesting building in an old bakery retaining features of its former use (oven doors) adding a museum feel.
Great beer choice and good food.

This pub used to be a bakery, hence the name, it is part of the ever growing Tynemill group which normally stands for really well kept beers and wholesome pub food, the Bread and Bitter is no exception. The beer range is always impressive with the Castle Rock selection plus London Pride and rotating guests. The pub has a lovely relaxed atmosphere, dogs are welcome and children in the eating area. The staff are exemplary, the slightly older members being very much into music, which means live music every other Tuesday and a splendid vinyl evening. The food is always very good, although the portion of peas which accompany the excellent fish and chips could do with being a tad larger. All in all this is a little gem of a pub and the locals are lucky to have it.

No tables but we sat in the bar and that was fine by us! Service and staff were great and the roast was perfection!

Bread and Bitter is always the first place I'm inclined to visit on Mapperly Top. A warm welcome every time, lovely kind bar staff, and always a fab selection of beers.

Great food selection, with a damn fine curry. Very tender chicken! Warm apple and chilli cider was phenomenal. Very dog-friendly place. A better than average gastro pub well suited for families and other large groups. The entrance is a little off from the street front and is possible to miss. Fascinating history of the building, being an old bakery and all.

The food was excellent (highly recommend the moussaka!) and there were plenty of tables & beer options. Staff were pleasant and efficient, only downside was we ordered nachos as a starter and they came with the mains, a very minor thing!

Excellent boozer with lots of decent cask and craft beers at reasonable prices. Only downside is it's full of bloody dogs - either barking, fighting or lying where you have to step over them! I like dogs, but.... Great for the ale, though!

Just popped in for a pint of Harvest Pale. Plenty of bar staff so no wait despite the pub being quite busy.. No complaints at all, if I weren't eating elsewhere, I'd have perused the menu. Happy to revisit.

Superb, I love it here. It's just so effortless. The staff are friendly and will even come over to say hello - it feels like they want you to be there. The beer is good as there is the Castle Rock core range, but it's the guest taps I usually go for as there will usually be something interesting. The whisky selection is decent too. It's comfy, dog friendly, welcoming and attracts a good crowd. The food is tasty too, especially the Sunday roasts.
