Good selection of ales in an authentic British boozer. Now mainly setup for gigs so you will see a mixed crowd. Outside seating areas to escape if you need to. Large bar area and quick service. Bohemian feeling with a range of torn leather chairs giving a relaxed feel.

It’s a nice, East End venue and pub, with good beers and Aspell cider. Normal London prices of £6 for a pint and I had a Margarita pizza for £11, that’s was really nice and enough for two not-too-hungry adults.
They have bands almost every day that start around 10:30 pm until late … and I heard they have karaoke as well. If you arrive at 8 pm it’s mostly empty, 9 pm still you could find a table, 10 pm bursting.

Wonderful atmosphere here. It's a one stop shop for good pub vibes, live music, karaoke and a late night DJ.

Definitely worth a visit.

I didn't try the pizza but it looked popular.

❤ The East End’s legendary music venue.
.
The George Tavern stands loud and proud on the corner of Commercial Road and Jubilee Street. Getting here is easy, Shadwell overground and Shadwell DLR are close by.
.
Formerly known as the Halfway House, originally built 1623, this pub is mentioned in texts by Chaucer, Pepys and Dickens. This grand three storey Georgian pub was built around 1825 and is Grade II listed. In 2002, artist Pauline Forster bought the derelict building at auction and reopened it as a music, performance and arts venue, and pub.
.
Over the last two decades, The George has fought widely-publicised battles against the developer Swan Housing Group, who own Stepney’s Nightclub and the Exmouth Estate, which is adjacent to the pub. In 2016, the George won its legal battle against Swan Housing Group in a Court of Appeal, the fight continues today.
.
The decor here is shabby chic with a hotchpotch mix of tables, chairs and furniture. The servery is ornate and has beautiful tiled mosaics behind it which date from 1891. There are decorative columns with detailed fixtures on the ceiling. The focal point of this historic pub is the stage complete with a piano which Andrew Lloyd Webber played recently.
.
The beer line up was good and included a couple of cask ales. I decided on a pint of Pravha, my pint was great and was average price.
.
I arrived at 5pm not long after the pub had opened. I was served by a bubbly member of staff who was all smiles and very welcoming. There was a band doing a soundcheck and warming up for their gig later on that night. There were a few other punters in enjoying a late afternoon drink. The vibe here is very atmospheric.
.
@thegeorgetavern is a part of the East End’s heritage and thanks to Pauline Forster this pub’s legacy continues. I loved visiting this pub and soaking up the history. To get the full experience I need to return to catch a band and see this place in full flow. This is a must visit East End pub and long may it continue.

Great small live music venue. Saw Personal Trainer playing a warm up gig for their great escape shows. Fantastic atmosphere. Good selection of beers. Average London prices. One warning, toilets are fairly cramped.

One of my favorite places in London, the environment and vibe of the place is unbeatable, and good selection of beers. Open until late most of the days, which is really convenient as the only place in the are that does so

Summer 2021

Great music venue in East London, part of the renowned toilet gig circuit. (Toilets are very clean and well stocked in this pub)

Large main room with large stage which presents an all round good view of stage.

This event was a socially distanced one during covid times, which meant venue was well ventilated.

Great beer and outside seating area. 'Hard of Hearing Music Magazine' lineup of bands was of great quality, and the acoustics in the room were good.

Worth noting ....

If the pub has a gig scheduled for that night you do need to book a ticket in advance to get into the venue.

Booking was available via 'DICE' Tickets. In this instance gig was was fully sold out at capacity so no tickets available to buy on the door.

So much fun! Lovely crowd, cheap beer, good music. Went here with my friends on a Saturday night and the atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. Especially fun right after the pride parade when everyone was partying and enjoying life! Also felt very safe, even in a somewhat shady area.

Great venue for free live music. Excellent range of drinks, plenty of beers, ciders, gins, rums and whisky to chose from. They also have crisps that are very delicious. We had a great time. We did sit outside as the sun was out and we could hear the music clearly. Always have live music so worth checking out and it isn't too far from the DLR or overground stations. Well worth going to for some live music and drinks. I highly recommend here.

I went in The George Tavern on a Saturday evening, it was dark, dingy, moody...which was brilliant! The pub has a lot of character, the staff are friendly and the prices are not bad too!

German small club gig lover, first time in The George Tavern: Cool place, alternative bar with a small stage. The concert was loud af and certainly cool people around. Highly recommend, if you like underground clubs for gigs. Look on the Dice app to see whats on.

A very cosy venue with a great atmosphere for small concerts. I went to see Ichiko Aoba there and it was a really magical experience. Pints at a good price is always a plus.
