Gusto Italiano

I am originally Italian and was pleasantly surprised discovering this little gem, just by my children's school. You enter this lovely little store and *boom!* - feels like being at the supermarket I used in my hometown, back in Italy.

The food is prime quality. All freshly made, all (or most) from Italian ingredients - at least judging from what it looks and tastes like. The staff are the kindest and will go the extra mile to accommodate any specific needs or requests. They work very hard and take pride in welcoming, serving and delighting their guests. This either at their indoor tables, in the delightful back garden or for takeaway only.

What to add? I have been a loyal customer for at least 9 years now, could only see them getting better and better over time. Would warmly recommend a visit. Won't be your last :-)

My favourite place to visit in Herne hill on half moon lane with the best coffee and great deli counter filled with amazing food. I always purchase my coffee beans here because no where else can compare the roast they have is my favourite full stop and they have gelato ice cream too, it's the best place to visit for a chilled lunch in the garden or just take away and enjoy.

A lovely, inviting and unpretentious cafe and deli with an outdoor space. It is very well organised inside so it has quite a tranquil feel to it despite selling many products. Its really easy to browse for what you need.

Each time I have been staff have been really tranquil and friendly. Its almost like visiting a little bit of Italy and inside feels very far away from Herne Hill.

I wouldn't imagine it would be easy to get a buggy in here but I would say that the cafe would be enjoyed by children and adults. A buggy could be folded ig needed.

There is a large selection of milkshakes and pastries. There is authentic foccacia which is a real treat. The hot chocolate I had here was absolutely delicious. The whole shop smells delicious really!

I'll definitely be back just before a school pick up and judging by the amount of customers visiting both times I went so will others.

This is one of my favorite finds! Delicious food, good prices, very friendly staff, and such a gorgeous garden to sit in. It's a close walk to Brockwell Park and I can't wait to come back!

Quite simply the best local coffee shop in Herne Hill. The drinks are great and there’s a fantastic food selection. It’s very friendly and family run and the kids enjoy going as much as we do.

I have been going this wonderful little Café for years now and it’s such a delight to visit. The owner and the staff are very friendly and professional. Very clean and food is always fresh. Not to mention the the most amazing coffee they serve! They also sell their own coffee beans which I totally recommend. Fantastic family run business.

Herne Hills best keep secret. Food is delicious and its a perfect place for lunch, brunch or some me time. They also have a lovely garden at the back.

Really lovely, honest cafe - delicious, truly Italian products, at a very reasonable price, in a lovely peaceful interior with friendly owners that made us feel so welcome.

I go to Gusto every two weeks with my brother. The staff are lovely, the service is excellent and the food is very tasty especially the salads.

Lovely atmosphere and delicious food. Gusto has everything from toasted focaccias, fresh bed, prepared quiches to eat in or take away. The cannelloni soup of the day is the best soup I’ve had in London!

Staff are always friendly. This is also a nice place to stock up your cupboards with treat food from cheeses and meats to proper Italian pasta, olive oil and biscuits

Brilliant staff, beautiful foccia sandwich and delicious coffee. Will return regularly!

This is my favourite cafe in Herne Hill: plenty of space (including a garden at the back) and great range of (mainly Italian) food, including toasties, paninis, frittata to lasagne and bigger meals. It caters for alcoholic and soft drinks which means it’s perfect for quick and long lunches. It gets overlooked because it’s a few mins extra walk from the centre of Herne Hill but I can’t recommend enough.

This is our local deli in Herne Hill. It helped keep us sane during COVID (when it could open) but we have lapsed recently, so decided to have a very nice tagliere board (charcuterie, range of cheeses, olives, and some honey to offset the saltiness of the cheese) for Friday lunch. Good value and they do decent wines by the glass.
I’m also a fan of Baci chocolate and they stock a range, particularly at Xmas, with panettone etc. Friendly owners. Thoroughly recommend.

This family run restaurant is wonderful. They give all their passion and energy to make it a great experience for their customers. The owners work there daily and care greatly about the standard of everything. I love them!

I love it here! I am a teacher at the primary school opposite and I always come in when I can get the chance , for a delicious oat milk mocha / americano and a panini to take back to school.
It’s always so good even though they’re always soooo busy they never forget a thing . also if you like Italian ingredients , drinks , cakes , condiments etc you can buy them to take away . Hope this place lasts forever as it’s a life line for a tired and hungry teacher !!!!

This is the best cafe in Herne Hill for working and studying and meeting people in. They have lots of tables inside and out (both in front and in the garden at the back) and there is wifi. During the morning a lot of the customers get takeaways so there are usually tables available. It gets busier around lunch time.

The coffee and smoothies are very nice and very reasonably priced and they have the biggest range of sandwich fillings and breads and savoury lunch options in Herne Hill (as far as I have found).

They also sell a wide range of high quality continental deli and grocery produce but I haven't tried any of those yet.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming and it is a family run business which makes a change from chains.

If you want to work or study I recommend making sure your device is charged as only one indoor and one outdoor table are near plug sockets (and it is a small business so I prefer to charge at home when I remember!).

Our group of 11 enjoyed a delicious celebratory Christmas brunch in the covered area of the garden. All dietary requirements (coeliac/vegan) were easily accommodated from the varied menu. The friendly and welcoming staff looked after us so well. And what a bonus to discover a vegan Christmas cake as we were leaving! Thank you!

Our paninis were good, the coffee was excellent, and the staff were super friendly and helpful.

We sat outside and I will tell you the garden is magical. You're on a patio covered by trees with figs and bunches of grapes growing all around. It's cool and fresh even on a hot day. Highly recommend.

One of my favourite delis, great food and the staff are so welcoming and nice! Highly recommend eating here!

Shared a very tasty meat lasagne and equally delicious aubergine parmigiana, they could have been a little warmer, the china oven dish it was served in was cold...salad also very nice. Fantastic garden with sheltered space and heaters, very tranquil place to enjoy a very pleasent lunch 😀
