The interior of this basilica is not to be missed and it’s a short funicular ride to get there and back. Views of Lyon from the hilltop were lovely and you can see all the way to the snow-covered Alps.

While spending the day in Lyon we saw this beautiful white church high on a hilltop. We found an old funicular (one of the only four in the world) to take us to the church. The ride was unique but sadly passed through tunnels without any views. Once we got out, we saw this beautiful church both inside and out. In the crypt area, they had an exhibit about the cloth of Turin. There are also spectacular views of Lyon at the backside of the church. Definitely worth the visit if you're in the area...

This is quite simply one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world.

The Stained Glass windows are wonderful, especially around the altar.

The mosaics around the knave are incredible.

The views are spectacular.

The external building is so well cared for.

One of the most spectacular places to visit in Lyon during the summer. You are able to see the city of Lyon from the terrace of basilica and in the middle of the summer this place can be quite crowded. If there is no clouds the view can be amazing as most buildings starts to reflect the sunlight, making a unique view. Inside the basilica is spectacular with French architecture is showing its best of times. Good place to pray as well if you are keen on doing so.

A beautiful cathedral overlooking the city of Lyon. The church is a functioning place of worship so please treat the area with utmost respect. The intricate details on ceilings and walls show how much the people cherish their religion. Downstairs there's a crypt that one can visit. Don't forget to go behind the church to see a beautiful panorama of Lyon. Best way to get here is to take the furnicular.

I visited Basilica of Notre Dame of Fourvière to partake in a guided tour. The Visite Insolite tour allowed you to explore areas of the building that most people would not get to see.

The guided tour was in French and lasted around 90 minutes. I can understand a very small amount of French, but still found the tour extremely enjoyable, even if I could only understand a small part of it. The views and the architecture speak for themselves.

It was fascinating to see the parts of the building that are usually off limits to visitors, and I throughly enjoyed seeing the top of the 3 domes. The views from the very top towers were also just as impressive.

The Basilica of Notre Dame of Fourvière is an absolute must visit when in Lyon. Both its views and architecture are breathtaking, and if you can book on to one of their tours I would highly recommend it.

You can walk there from the city, but it’s not an easy walk, more of a hike. It’s worth it, the Basilica is beautiful and the view from the top of the hill is amazing, you can see the mountains.
The entry is free and this is really good.

Great walk up through the Parc des Hauteurs to visit this magnificent basilica. Amazing that it was only built in the 1870s. Wonderful view of Lyon even to the Mont Blanc from the Esplanade. Lyon's Eiffel tower is just next to the basilica.

Absolutely beautiful with amazing views of the river and the city. The funiculaire was quite busy to go up, so I walked instead. The walk was moderately challenging with lots of steps. I took the funiculaire back down, and it was much less busy on the way down. There is so much to see at the Bassilica. Check out the crypt and the chapel for Mary, too. Beautiful

Amazing details and view of the city from above. It is quite uphill. I'd recommend to take the metro +funicular up the the cathedral and take the walk down to old town after.

We walked through both floors and around the Basilica and it was very amazing. Tons of extremely impressive mosaics and lots of gold. A very amazing and dramatic view. They very well explain all the mosaics and art in the hall. The descriptions are only in French so make sure you either have your translating camera or someone to read the descriptions to you if you need as they are quite interesting. The lower floor was super unique showing different countries views on the church which isn’t super common it feels.

Beautiful church! It’s a place to gaze at and enjoy. We took the stairs to reach it. The church is located on the top of the city, which provides an excellent view to ponder the beauty of Lyon.

You can see this beautiful cathedral in all directions as she shine brightly to all but when you finally climbed up the hills( long walk) and see her in person, you will feel all in awe! Stunning inside and outside, you will see entire city of Lyon… absolutely stunning!

Visiting Notre Dame in Lyon proved to be a nice experience. The place has lots of religious and cultural artworks and statues. One notable aspect is the fact that there is no entry fee. From when I went there, it wasn't very busy. Photography is restricted in certain areas. There are also spaces for prayers and there is an option to pay about 3 euros to light candles. I highly recommend visiting this place if you are staying in Lyon.

Visited the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière and was impressed by its magnificent architecture. The convenience of accessing it via the funicular train service, one of the oldest lines in the world, added to the experience. The panoramic view of Lyon from the hill was breathtaking. A must-visit destination for its historical charm and stunning vistas.

Free entry public building with impressive architecture, a must see site in Lyon. Can be accessed by public transport cheaply. Do go to the crypt downstair, which is also impressive.

Quality of materials and history is good, being one of Lyons key attractions.

Impressive structure and views at highest point in Lyon.

This basilica is located in the most strategic point in Lyon to get a great view of the city. Just walk around the basilica to the other side of the plaza and you will see all of Lyon in front of you. You can see the two rivers, and all the areas up to the far mountains.

For the basilica itself, I really liked the lion statue at the entrance, it's a great piece of art.

The candle stands inside are so beautiful with all the colorful candle cups.

I also liked the stained glass and paintings. I'll share some photos here.

A beautiful piece of art. A great location to enjoy the view of city from the height. It is an equivalent of scare couer of Paris but maybe slightly better I feel. You can either walk uphill to this place, or can take a cable train or even a car since the place is well connected with roads.
